The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 48
Jack and Lucinda looked at her incredulous.
“What did you say?” Lucinda asked her.
But Violet had her eyes on Jack. And he didn’t seem very happy with her statement.
“Of course you’re not.” he replied.
Violet straightened her back and cleaned her throat before answering him.
“Yes, I am. I’m also responsible for this, and I want to see what’s going on inside the palace.”
“Violet, you know things can get really bad there. Someone you care about can get hurt or even die. Are you sure you want to witness that? I think you should stay here.”
Those words almost convinced her, but she had made up her mind.
She wanted to see with her own eyes how the members from the Diamond Pack were dealing with everything.
Would they also believe those papers and stand against Arden?
She wanted to believe that was the case.
But she also wanted to see Gwen.
The case about Lance was that she didn’t know if she wanted to see him yet. He had attacked her when she was trying to escape, and Violet didn’t know how to cope with that.
“I’m going.” she concluded.
Jack looked at Lucinda with a serious expression, and with just that look, she understood what she had to do.
She excused herself and left the room, leaving Violet and Jack alone.
He took a deep breath before starting to speak again.
“Violet…” he came forward and grabbed her hands. “I understand why you want to go, but I don’t want to worry about you being there.”
“I have to go, Jack. I need to see with my own eyes that what I did brought some good to the people there. You don’t have to worry about me.”
He looked down.
“I don’t think that’s an option for me. But I get it. Just promise me you’ll be careful. I don’t want you to suffer anymore than you already did.”
Violet wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer to her.
“Thank you for being so understanding.”
“It’s not like I can forbid you, right? You’re not my prisoner anymore.” he smiled.
“I know. But even though you don’t agree with my choices, you always try to be supportive, and I really appreciate that.”
“I just want you to be happy.” he said with a low voice, looking at her eyes.
She felt really loved and warm inside.
“I know. I am, or at least I will be. As soon as this is all over. But just being here with you, it’s more than I could ever ask for.”
Jack put one of his hands on the curve of her neck and pulled her for a kiss.
And for a moment, Violet could almost forget what was happening outside, in the real world.
Because that’s what she felt when she was with him, like her life belonged to someone else.
A few minutes later, Violet found herself inside her room, trying to think if she should get something with her to the palace.
She didn’t know what she had to do, and she was starting to regret saying that she wanted to go.
What could she do? How could she be useful?
They should know that she was the responsible for leaking the files. Would they hate her?
“Baby, are you ready to go?” Jack said opening the door.
He looked really excited but concerned with her at the same time.
But Violet decided to ignore the last part.
She was going to be fine. She was strong, right?
She nodded and followed him.
The members from the Rebels were gathered on the garden, waiting for their leader.
As soon as Jack and Violet arrived, they stopped to pay attention.
“I guess everyone already knows what to do, but since this is an unique mission, I’m going to say a few words before we leave.” Jack started with his Alpha tone.
Everyone was looking at him with a lot of focus.
“We don’t know what is the actual situation there, so we need to be careful and help each other. We are not going to kill anyone, we are only going to see if the others need some help.”
A lot of heads nodded as he was speaking.
“If everything goes smoothly, I believe there will be a meeting to decide who is going to be the next Alpha of the Diamond Pack. Since this is an occasion no one had ever seen before, I don’t know how it’s going to proceed. But let’s not lose our purpose. We are not going to conquer anything, we are just going to help those in need.”
Violet could feel the lump on her throat showing up, so she gulped a few times to avoid it.
Someone raised their hand in the middle of the crowd, and Jack turned to look.
“Yes, Oliver?”
“What do we do if we are attacked? We are allowed to fight back, right?”
“Yes, of course. We are going to a rebellion after all. I’m just saying that we shouldn’t lose focus about what we have to do. The goal is to take Arden out of his position as the Alpha. And if we can take that captain down too would be awesome.” Jack concluded.
“Great!” Oliver said very excited all of a sudden.
“Okay then. So let’s go!” Jack clapped a few times, encouraging the members and grabbed Violet’s hand to leave.
The walk took more than Violet imagined, but maybe it was because she was too nervous, and time didn’t seem to be passing on the right pace.
And as they walked, she could already see how things had changed.
The streets were full of people screaming with posters and signs asking Arden to abdicate; it was already dark and lots of them had torches on their hands that looked like giant fireballs.
And as they approached the walls from the Diamond Pack, Violet was able to see that there was no more wall.
A lot of people was going inside, as the walls had been demolished.
