The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 51
Violet froze.
“I didn’t want to believe at first, but it couldn’t be anyone else.”
“What do you mean, Gwen?” Violet asked.
“I never thought you’d be able to do something like that to us, Violet. But when the rumors started to be about you, I kind of put the pieces together. You did this because you fell in love, wasn’t it?” Gwen said with disappointment.
Violet looked at her without knowing what to say.
“Of course not. I did it because I have principles.” Violet said..
“Principles…” Gwen disdained. “We gave you a good life, didn’t we? You were raised like my sister, you had the same things that I did. Isn’t gratitude one of your principles? How could you do this to me? You ruined my life.”
Her eyes were full of tears as she exploded towards Violet.
Violet had so many things to say, but she couldn’t find the right words. She didn’t expect that Gwen would treat her like that.
Of course she was sad, it was understandable, but Violet didn’t really have a choice. It didn’t make everything her fault though.
“Gwen, he killed my parents. What did you expect me to do?” Violet asked in a low voice.
“Well, I… I don’t know, okay? Did you at least confront him? Do you know what happened that day? You simply read a few files and jumped to conclusions. You don’t know for a fact that he deliberately killed your parents.”
Violet almost laughed.
She couldn’t be hearing properly.
“You’re joking, right?” Violet asked in disbelief. “Did you really expect me to have a conversation with Arden about whether he killed my parents or not? Something like – ‘Hey, Arden, is it true that you killed my parents on a mission or it was just an accident?’. Gwen, they were on a mission to invade territories, to claim it their own. I can’t believe you actually wanted me to do this. The files were more than clear.”
Violet could feel her mouth getting dry and her eyes burning because the tears wanted to fall so bad.
But she would keep them inside no matter what.
They stood a few minutes in silent, trying to pull themselves together.
“You know what, Violet? I’m going through hell now. My life turned upside down and I have no clue how to be the Alpha from this shitty pack.” Gwen said with clenched teeth. “I understand why you did it. I truly do. But I can’t forgive you now.”
Violet stood there, staring at her, examining her words.
“Okay. I get that. Just know that whatever I did, the only thing that almost prevented me from seeking justice was you and Lance. I never wanted to lose you in the process. I just did what I thought was right. I hope one day you can see that too.”
Gwen nodded, unable to look at her.
“I know he is your father, but he is not a good person.” Violet continued.
“Violet, I’m gonna say this just once. So please listen carefully. Don’t come back here. I don’t want to see you ever again.”
Violet kept looking at her without believing the words that came out of her mouth.
Was she really banning Violet?
“I really hope you can realize that was the only option I had. If you need anything, feel free to look for me. I believe you know where to find me.” Violet concluded and left the room.
As soon as she heard the door slam behind her, she let the tears finally run down her face.
She would leave that palace for good now and start a new life by Jack’s side.
And she really hoped that Gwen could get over all of that and be an amazing Alpha someday.
When Violet got outside, Jack came towards her, and she just tossed her arms around him and got surrounded by his embrace.
He didn’t ask anything, he simply stood there, waiting for her to sob until she was tired of it.
“Come on, let’s go home, baby.” he whispered against her ear.
Violet got to the mansion and a huge party was being held by the members. Apparently, they were celebrating their victory against the tyrannical Diamond Pack, even though their former Alpha was still missing.
But they kept saying that even though it was the first step of a bigger mission, it had to be celebrated anyway.
Violet wasn’t in the mood for any parties, of course, so she simply went upstairs to take a shower and try to get some rest.
“Are you sure you’re going to be alright? I can stay here with you if you want.” Jack asked when they got to her room.
He was really concerned about her, but Violet felt bad to prevent him from celebrating. After all, that was something he sought for a long time in his life.
“I’ll be fine. I just need to be alone for a while. Please, go have fun with your pack. You deserve to celebrate this.”
But Jack seemed torn between those two options, comfort her or celebrate with his members.
“Vi, what you did was truly honorable. Not everyone would be able to go after justice like you did. I know you’re hurt now, but give it some time. Everything will be fine.”
She nodded, looking inside his eyes.
“Thank you for being so nice to me. I don’t think I even deserve you.” she said as he pulled her to another hug.
“Don’t say nonsense. I’m the lucky one to have you. Now go get some rest. We can talk tomorrow. I’m thinking about taking you to a holiday weekend.”
Violet separated from the hug and looked at him surprised.
“What do you mean?” she asked, excited all of a sudden.
“You have never met the beach, right? Well, I’ll be more than glad to take you to meet one for the first time.”
“Oh, God! Really? I heard it is something incredibly beautiful.” Violet said with a big smile. “But how will you be able to stay away?”
“We can take a few days off of this madness here. They will be fine without me. They have Morgana and the council, so… I’m not really concerned. I know there’s a lot going on right now, but a couple days won’t make any difference. I don’t think we’ll have news about anyone until there.”
Violet nodded again, feeling her heart relieved for a bit.
“I love you.” she said, getting on her tip toes to give him a kiss.
Jack wrapped her waist and pulled her up so she could stay on the same level as him.
“And I love you.” he answered against their kiss.
And just like that, Violet went to the shower with a promise of a better future, and Jack went to the party to celebrate the first battle won.
But the war wasn’t over yet. That was just the first step.
