The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 55
Violet wasn’t sure if she really wanted to hear his answer, but she wanted to have at least an idea about what the future would hold.
“Honestly, I still think we’re going to face a lot. Gwen is clearly not someone that has experience with being an Alpha. If she listens to the wrong people, the Diamond Pack could fall into the wrong hands again.”
“I haven’t thought about that.” Violet confessed.
“Yeah, well… Apparently, there were a lot of people working for Arden for years. He wasn’t a lone wolf. If he really bribed all these people from other packs, we have no idea what he’s capable of.”
“What do you mean? What do you think it could happen?”
“We don’t know where Arden is.. If he really has people by his side, he could be hidden somewhere. He could plan to come back. I don’t know.” Jack said taking another sip from the wine.
“Come back? Why would he come back knowing that everyone is after him, the entire pack hates him and society doesn’t accept him anymore?” Violet asked in shock.
That was the most unreasonable thing she had heard in a long time. And she was hearing a lot of them lately.
“Violet, that’s what happen on places ruled by dictators. People don’t like them, but are too scared to rebel against them.” Jack explained. “So if Arden returns and is able to take back his throne as the Alpha of the Diamond Pack, things will get really tricky. It could start a war and lots of people would die. Innocent people.”
Violet was completely scared with that idea. She didn’t expect it to turn out to be something so huge.
“It’s all f*cking politics, that’s what it is.” Jack complained finishing the content on his glass.
Violet didn’t know what else to say, so she simply accepted that the conversation was done.
“Let’s go to bed now. We can go for a swim on the sea tomorrow before we leave.” Jack said helping her to get up from the floor.
On the next morning, Violet woke up early and prepared breakfast for them both, before going to the beach.
They spent the whole day under the sun, swimming, walking and just enjoying each other’s presence.
She realized she was more in love with Jack than before. And that feeling didn’t seem to be vanishing any time soon.
When it was time to take off, she realized that things would go back to normal as soon as they put their feet inside the mansion.
“Let’s do something like this once in a while, okay? Get out of that mess in the city and just go somewhere nobody knows us.” she suggested while they were on the road.
“I already told you I’ll take you to meet the whole world, so we need to start soon. The world is too big to see in just one life.” he smiled, grabbing her hand and squeezing it.
Violet enjoyed the breeze while she still could, until the smell of the city filled her nostrils.
“Home sweet home.” Jack said without any excitement on his voice.
Violet entered the mansion and stopped in front of her room, and Jack did the same.
“You know, we still need to talk about this situation here. How long do you intend to sleep in this bedroom?” he asked leaning against the wall.
She stopped with her hand on the doorknob and looked at him confused.
“What do you mean? This is my bedroom, isn’t it?”
“Don’t be fool. When will you come to my bedroom? Or do you want to live in separated bedrooms forever?”
“Well, we can talk about that after we talk about marriage.” she joked.
Violet laughed, but inside she was feeling really uncomfortable and afraid all of a sudden.
Jack raised his brows.
“Marriage? Do you want to get married?”
“No!” she said abruptly and louder than she intended. “I mean, I don’t know. Maybe someday. Don’t you?”
She asked but didn’t want to know the answer.
They had never talked about it, so why did she have to bring it up now?
What if he said no?
“It’s too early to talk about that anyway. And there’s a lot going on, so…” she continued to say promptly.
Jack got away from the wall and came closer to her.
“We can talk about that if you want. I’d already be married to you if it were up to me.”
Violet looked at him surprised.
“What? You never talked about it.”
“Well, I didn’t want to scare you. I thought you’d think it is too soon.”
“It kind of is, right?” Violet said without thinking.
Jack looked intensely at her.
“Right. Let’s save this conversation for another time.” he said turning his back at her and going straight to his bedroom.
