The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 58
The night was really long.
All the Rebels pack were anxiously waiting for some feedback from the Diamond Pack regarding the traitor’s judgement.
Apparently, the Diamond Pack was going to give a response after the sunrise, but no one seemed to be sleepy.
Violet didn’t want to sleep either, but couldn’t stand being in the same place as everyone else.
The atmosphere was too much for her to handle. She went to her room and asked Jack to tell her if anything new came up.
It was a few minutes after the sun appeared on the horizon that he entered her room with a bright face, even though exhausted.
“She agreed. The trial will be held in the square in front of the palace on Saturday at noon..” he sat on her bed and leaned his head on the headboard.
“Really?” Violet sounded surprised. “And how do these trials work? They won’t torture the man in front of everyone, will they?”
Jack laughed, finding her questions really amusing.
“You don’t need to laugh at me because I don’t know this kind of things.” she complained angrily.
He grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards him, making her fall seated between his legs.
“I’m not laughing at you, I just think it’s cute the way you’re innocent about stuff.” he said placing a little kiss on her lips gently.
“How being innocent is cute? I sound stupid every time I open my mouth next to you or Morgana.” she said grumpy.
“Come on, stop saying nonsense. You’re not stupid. You just don’t understand politics. What’s wrong about that?”
“Well, I want to, okay? It pisses me off that I don’t get how things work.”
“It doesn’t always work as it’s supposed to. People disagree all the time. Politics is a really tricky and controversial topic. Anyway, I can tell you anything you want to know, alright? You don’t have to feel ashamed because of it.”
Violet looked at him with a sulky face, but Jack was still smiling.
“Fine! So just tell me how these f*cking trials work.” she said crossing her arms.
“Governments don’t really tell people that they torture others for information. It’s just a known fact, but no one really sees it happening. Anyway, I believe they will try to question him about his motives for betraying his pack and falling on Arden’s schemes.”
“What if he doesn’t say anything?”
“Each pack has its own rules. I don’t know exactly how the Diamond Pack deals with it, but I’m assuming things could have changed since the leadership also changed. Have you never seen any trial on the palace before?” he asked curiously.
“No, Arden never let me be a part of any of this. He’d say that it’s men businesses and I’d go to my room. Of course I’ve heard people whispering about it on the hallways, but I never really paid attention to it.”
Jack nodded.
“Anyway, if he says something useful, something that leads us to where Arden might be, they can offer him a deal. Kind of a trade. He gives information and the pack gives him a way to escape death, if that’s what they do to traitors.” Jack continued.
“What kind of a deal?” Violet asked.
“They can put him in jail for a few years, less than he deserves for his crimes, for each useful information he gives. Again, it depends on the pack we’re talking about.”
“I see.” Violet uttered as she started to understand how it worked.
“Do you think they will kill him? To make a point? Or even calm the rebels down a bit?”
“See how you understand a few things? That’s a very good question. They might. But I’m still not sure what Gwen is capable of doing as the Alpha. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.”
The rest of the week passed without too many changes on the news.
The Diamond Pack didn’t make any other statement after scheduling the trial, and the resistance was more cool after they got a positive feedback.
Violet thought the days were taking longer than normal to finish, and Saturday was never coming.
And when it was finally 11 in the morning on the day of the judgement, she was on the front door of the mansion waiting for the rest that would also go.
He appeared a few minutes later with at least 20 people by his side.
Violet was a bit surprised because she thought more people would be present. But she didn’t question.
She was feeling sick already with the anticipation. Which shouldn’t be a big deal, because the man probably wasn’t someone she knew.
But the whole situation was uncomfortable, and she was also going to see Gwen again, even though from afar.
But the girl shouldn’t see her there, because she could even forbid Violet from entering the territory of the Diamond Pack again.
They decided to drive there, since the walk would take more time, and apparently the streets were too crowded.
They passed by a small group of troublemakers on the way, which caught their attention. They had lots of signs and angry faces.
“Do you think they will let these people in? They could cause a commotion and ruin the trial.” Violet said to Jack on the car as they approached the limit where the walls were before.
The bricks that were demolished were still there intact on the ground.
“There is always someone to ruin everything.” Jack said a little impatient, examining the people on the street as he turned left and parked the car. “I believe they won’t let them in, but let’s hope the results are satisfying, otherwise they could cause a lot of trouble.”
They left the car and walked towards the square, passing through some guards on the way.
And Violet was praying that nothing went wrong, because things could get worse than they already were.
