The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 61
They stayed out for most of the afternoon, and Violet was feeling much better.
Jack had a way to calm her, make her feel better every time she was sad, even though she recognized that lately she wasn’t giving him too much credit for his attempts.
Jack was amazing to her, always concerned and caring about her well being. But she had been so on the edge with the latest events, that she didn’t seem able to manage her feelings and actions.
That’s why she felt like apologizing to Jack for being an idiot before. Good thing he understood her and didn’t take it too seriously.
They made peace and got back to the mansion when the sun was setting. Violet was eager to take a shower and lay on her bed.
Her head was hurting like someone was hammering her skull from inside out..
The day had been too much for her. She still couldn’t take Gwen’s expression out of her mind. And even though she was trying hard to not blame herself, it was hard to believe that her sister had become someone so cold.
Getting to the mansion, someone called Jack as soon as they appeared, and he left to check what was going on.
“Go take a shower. I’ll be there in a few minutes, we could grab something to eat.” he suggested.
Violet nodded and climbed the stairs in a rush. But when she was almost reaching the top, she heard someone calling her from the ground floor.
She turned to see who it was and found Lucinda coming in her direction.
“Violet! You’re finally home!”
The woman seemed agitated and nervous.
“Lucinda? What’s going on? Is everything okay?” she asked a little worried.
Her friend was always smiling and with a bright expression. But now she was looking from left to right to see if someone was coming.
She got her head closer to Violet’s and whispered so no one could hear.
“You took so long to come back… Someone left a letter for you.”
“What?!” Violet said surprised. Or maybe in shock.
Who would send her a letter? She had no one else anymore.
And everyone that she had contact belonged to the Rebels, so they wouldn’t have to send her a letter.
“Who did?” she asked with her head starting to hurt even more.
All the possible options crossed her mind, but one was more absurd than the other.
It shouldn’t be Gwen. The girl had asked her to vanish from her sight, so why would she send Violet a letter all of a sudden? Especially now after the death of Mr. Brown?
The other two options sounded even more ridiculous in her head than the first one.
Lance and Arden would never risk their lives to send her anything, and they wouldn’t have a reason to do it.
Right?
“I don’t know.” Lucinda said. “I was on my shift and the postman came with the correspondence. When I saw your name in of the letters, I asked him who had sent that, but he looked as confused as I was. He said he didn’t know how that letter appeared there, since there was no sender.”
Violet looked at her with a weird feeling on her stomach starting to grow.
“No sender?”
Lucinda nodded.
“It’s weird, right? Do you have any idea of who it could be?”
“No. I don’t… I mean, I don’t have anyone else, right?” Violet answered looking at her hands. “So, where is the letter anyway?”
“I put it in your bed.”
Violet turned and started to walk towards her room, but stopped abruptly reminding of something.
She looked at her friend again and whispered:
“Don’t tell Jack any of this, okay?”
“Violet…” Lucinda was about to complain, but Violet waved her hand at her.
“Don’t say anything. I’ll see what it is about first. There’s no need to worry him without a reason.”
Lucinda gulped, obviously against what Violet had said.
Violet turned in one of the hallways, and when Lucinda was out of sight, she started to run.
Her heart was racing and she was starting to feel sick again.
She couldn’t imagine who had sent her the letter, but she was having a bad feeling.
She burst into her room and closed the door, already visualizing the piece of paper on her mattress.
With her hands shaking, Violet grabbed it, but even before opening it, she could already tell who was it from.
The handwriting couldn’t fool her.
She had seen that during her entire life, so she couldn’t be wrong this time.
Feeling like she was going to throw up at any time now, Violet opened the envelope and her legs failed immediately, making her collapse seated on the bed.
“Oh my God…” she murmured to herself once her eyes fell upon the letter.
It was from Arden, just like she expected.
But what was written inside of it wasn’t nice words. Not that she believed he would say good things to her, but she wasn’t expecting it to be a threat either.
