The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 65
Violet waited the whole day for Jack to come back. It was driving her crazy not to know anything from him for hours.
And the fact that he went alone after Lance made no sense to her.
Why would he do that? Why didn’t he ask anyone to go with him?
There was so many enemies hidden, and someone could take him as hostage or even kill him.
It was too dangerous.
She decided to wait for him in his bedroom. She didn’t care that he wasn’t speaking to her, or if he was still mad at her.
All she wanted was to make sure he was alright as soon as he got back..
She could feel in her skin exactly what he must had felt on the previous day, when she tried to keep the letter from him.
The fact that he did go out after Lance without telling her made her extremely annoyed.
Now more than ever, she was certain that she had messed up real bad.
She bit almost all her nails until Jack appeared.
He opened the door and got scared by her waiting for him there.
“What are you doing here?” he asked closing the door.
“I waited for you the whole day. Do you have any idea of how worried I was?”
“Why were you worried? I just went out.” he shrugged his shoulder and took his shirt off, making Violet blush involuntarily.
“I know what you went to do. Morgana told me.”
He looked at her with those intense eyes, and she wondered if she had done the right thing by confronting him like that.
“Now I know how mad you were at me for trying to hide things from you. But you didn’t have to do that just to get back at me. I was terrified that something had happened to you.” she lowered her head, unable to look him in the eyes.
But still, she could feel his glance piercing her entire being, like he was able to read her thoughts.
“I didn’t do that to get back on you. I just went out as soon as I heard the news. You weren’t home, so I asked Morgana to tell you.”
He was clearly still upset at her, and now he even looked offended by her harsh assumptions.
“Did you find him?” Violet asked afraid of the answer.
Jack grabbed his towel and some clothes to take a shower.
“No, I didn’t.” he said clearly annoyed with that.
Violet didn’t want to ask anything else, so she stayed quiet.
And seeing that she stopped talking, Jack entered the bathroom to take a bath.
But Violet didn’t move. She didn’t leave the bedroom.
She still had to apologize to him. And maybe after the shower, he would be a bit more calm.
He took a few long minutes there, and she was almost falling asleep when he finally came out, fully dressed this time.
He was rubbing his wet hair with the towel, and if it wasn’t for the weird atmosphere between them, Violet would have been seduced by that simple action.
He didn’t seem surprised that she was still there, seated on his bed.
But he also didn’t say anything to her.
He was acting like she wasn’t even there.
“Can I talk to you before I leave?” she asked in a low voice, because she was still gathering courage to apologize.
It was actually really hard for her to say sorry.
She knew she was wrong, but admitting that was still a difficult chore for her.
Jack sat on a chair and looked at her, replying with just a nod.
She cleaned her throat before starting.
“I wanted to say I’m sorry for last night. I know that what I did wasn’t right, and I won’t try to make up excuses for that. I honestly thought it would be better not to worry you with all of that, since I feel like I’m burdening you with so much lately.”
Jack seemed to be touched by that.
Maybe he wasn’t expecting her to be so honest, she thought.
But she didn’t want to justify herself. She simply wanted him to believe that she trusted him, with no fear.
She would confide her life to him.
“You are not burdening me.” he said staring deeply into her eyes. “I don’t get why you’d think that. I already said we’re in this together.”
Violet looked at the ceiling and answered.
“I know. I really do. But I feel that if even I can’t stand my life right now, why would you? You already have your own problems as the Alpha, and I only came into your life to toss all these other problems on you.”
She was opening her heart to him. That’s what she really thought about what was happening.
“I know I’m a mess now. And I know I’m venting my frustrations on you. It’s not fair.”
“I don’t care about that. I want you to count on me, to know that I’ll be here when things are falling apart. The same way that I want to think you’ll be here for me if I need.” Jack explained.
His eyes were so transparent, and Violet could feel how sincere his love for her was.
He really made her feel loved.
And she wanted to do the same for him.
“I will be. I am.” she stated.
She got up from the bed and went towards him, seating on his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck.
He smelled so good, and maybe she should have stayed on the bed to finish their conversation before coming too close to him.
It was hard to think properly with his lips so close to hers like that.
“I know I’ve been awful in showing that to you. I promise I’ll do better to show you that I also love you the same way, and that you can count on me. I’m sorry that I made you feel like I don’t trust you. Actually, you’re the only person I do trust at the moment.” she concluded with a timid smile.
Jack caressed her cheek with his thumb and pulled her head forward so he could give her a kiss.
It was a soft and heartfelt kiss and only then she realized how much she was missing that intimacy between them.
“I’m really sorry.” she whispered one more time against his lips.
“It’s okay. I know things are shaken between us, let’s just hope we can go through the storm together, right?”
Violet nodded, but deep down she wondered if they would be able to do so.
