The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 66
Violet slept on Jack’s bedroom that night, and for the first time since their trip to the beach, she finally had a good night of sleep.
And was also the first time that Jack was still by her side when she woke up.
Every time they slept on the same bedroom, he would be gone before she opened her eyes in the morning, since he always had a lot to do.
But now, those gray-green eyes were the first thing she saw when she opened her own.
“Good morning.” he whispered by her side, already fully dressed to start his day.
Violet blinked a few times to make sure she was seeing things clearly.
“Hey…” she whispered back. “You’re still here..”
She could feel the smile forming on her lips. It felt so good to have him there, to have him be the first thing she saw before her day started.
It kind of gave her a boost.
He caressed her cheeks and her hair before he answered.
“I wanted to wish you a good day before I leave. I’ll have to go to the outskirts to see some members that caused trouble for a family of farmers. They are not the easy type, so… It might take a while.” he explained.
Violet nodded, grabbing his hand with hers and interweaving their fingers.
She kept looking at their hands as she replied to him.
“Okay. I will have a good day since I’m already waking up like this. It can only be a good thing.” she said, trying to show more of her romantic and sweet side to him.
He deserved it after her being a lousy girlfriend lately.
He came forward and placed a kiss on her lips before he got out of bed.
“Be careful out there, alright? I won’t be here to protect you.” he teased her, knowing that she would be on defensive.
“I can protect myself. I’m a sorceress, remember?” she smiled in return, pointing her hand at him pretending to threaten him.
“Would like to see you try that.” he provoked her again, but didn’t wait to see if she would really do it.
He ran towards the door and left, leaving Violet behind in a really good mood for a change.
She went back to her room and decided to put some comfortable clothes on. She felt like training that day.
The weather was nice, the sun was up in the sky, and she was feeling really well. Maybe she could reach stronger levels of her powers if she concentrated properly.
With the last events, Violet wasn’t focusing enough to train hard. Consequently, her powers were not improving like they should.
She grabbed something to eat and left the mansion, taking her path to the woods. She already knew the road very well, and the location had become a special place for her to practice and think about her life.
Violet decided to train her shielding ability. She wasn’t able to create a very big shield yet. So far, she could only protect something by the size of a person.
She was even capable of creating one to protect herself when she was escaping the Diamond Pack.
But that wouldn’t be enough if she someday had to protect someone else.
And Morgana had told her that she could produce a shield big enough to protect an entire city, so she had to practice really hard if she ever wanted to achieve that mark.
She levitated some big rocks and put one on top of the other, and soon she had a sort of barrier, taller and wider than herself.
She stretched her hands and felt the energy coming through her arms and getting out of her fingertips. The shield wasn’t really visible, except if she really looked at it.
Then she could see that there was some soft luminosity, imperceptible if you looked too fast.
As the hours passed, she could go from the barrier of rocks to one of the small trees around her.
It wasn’t the biggest one yet, but she was getting there.
Suddenly, feeling tired and hot, Violet walked a few miles away to find a small river for her to drink some water.
She didn’t like to take anything with her while she was practicing, and she had discovered that river a few weeks before while exploring the woods.
She squatted down as soon as she reached the water, and drunk some of it real quickly. She hadn’t realized how thirsty she was until she saw that big amount of water in front of her.
While refreshing herself, Violet heard something that caught her attention and put her in a state of caution.
Someone was watching her. She could feel it.
But there shouldn’t be no one there.
It was the territory of the Rebels. Even the fugitives wouldn’t be too stupid to hide there. Someone could find them, and they wouldn’t even have the chance to have a proper trial.
So why did she feel that whoever it was, it wasn’t a friendly face?
When she heard another branch breaking, she turned her head aggressively, and what she saw made her certain that it wasn’t really a friendly face.
It was Lance.
And that couldn’t mean something good.
