The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 68
Violet felt such a relief by hearing those words, that for the first time, she believed that something could go back to what it was.
If it was her friendship and brotherhood with Lance, she was more than willing to accept it.
Maybe they could work on their relationship, and he could stop having those stupid ideas of marrying her. He could be happy with whoever he wanted to.
He could even find his mate.
That idea made her really excited.
Suddenly, she remembered of something, and she couldn’t believe that she had forgotten about it while talking to him.
Violet felt that joy vanishing from her chest..
Lance was really good with words, and she completely forgot the threat that was hanging over her head.
“Wait!” she got up in a leap, getting defensive again.
Lance widened his eyes at her, confused and scared.
“What?”
“I… How could I forget about this? I received a letter from Arden two days ago. And you were seen around here too. It was you, wasn’t it?”
Lance looked completely lost.
“A letter? No… Why would I deliver a letter for Lance? Didn’t you just hear what I said?” he asked with his forehead frowned.
“I… I don’t know. It’s too much of a coincidence.” she murmured more to herself than to him.
Lance was giving her a concerned look.
“Did Arden send you a letter? What did he say?”
Violet looked down, since Lance was still seated, completely vulnerable and defenseless.
Violet could attack him right now, and he wouldn’t even have a chance to fend off.
She considered not telling him the truth, but she could see he wasn’t lying.
Sitting again, Violet confided in him the content of the letter.
By the look on his face, Lance really didn’t know anything about it.
“Did he threaten you? What an a*shole!” Lance cursed, not caring that Violet was the one hearing it.
Not that she cared anyway.
“Actually, I also came to talk to you about this. I wanted to warn you because I heard some people saying that Arden was gathering his allies and forming an army, but I didn’t think he would be so quick in coming after you.” Lance said.
“Is he really forming an army? What do you think he’ll do?” Violet asked already nervous with the idea.
“Probably try to get back to his throne. Take back his power. He won’t lose this without a fight. That I’m sure!” Lance explained.
“Really? Jack said he could do something like this, but I didn’t think he would have the courage to try to be a leader again if no ones trust him anymore.”
Lance shrugged his shoulders.
“I don’t think he really cares about the people, Vi. He just wants to be in charge. If everyone is scared of him, what would he fear? If after all this he’s still able to come back and regain his power, no one will be able to defeat him again. He’ll be much stronger.” Lance explained.
Violet didn’t really have much experience in analyzing the events like that. Lance was a soldier, so he was much more skilled in that department.
“It makes sense…” she whispered.
“I could be helpful to you. To the resistance, I mean. I know a lot of the people that’s on Arden’s side. I could help narrowing down the enemies. I also know where to find some of them. We could go after them.” Lance suggested.
But there was a huge problem on the way.
“Jack won’t believe you. He won’t trust you.” she confessed.
How could she convince Jack that Lance was by their side?
“I know. I’m not stupid, Vi. I wouldn’t trust myself either. But I’d like the opportunity to prove myself. If you are willing to believe me, of course. I won’t blame you if you don’t.”
Lance was always very transparent. Violet didn’t remember him telling a lie to her, even though the truth was going to hurt her.
That was something she really appreciated.
And of course she was also having second thoughts about trusting him so quickly, but she couldn’t feel he was lying to her.
His eyes couldn’t fool her, right?
But she was wrong about Gwen, so what would prevent her from being wrong about him too?
But Violet didn’t want to give up on everyone, she didn’t want to suspect everyone.
She wanted to see the good in people, she wanted to believe they could regret their choices and have the chance to redeem themselves.
So she decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
But Jack would be a completely different story.
He wouldn’t fall for that easily.
“I believe you.” she finally said, with Lance’s expectant eyes on her. “But I can’t promise you the same from Jack. I’ll talk to him, say that you’re on our side. You are on our side, right?” she asked, just to be sure.
He nodded.
“I am.” he stated firmly. “I should’ve been this entire time. But anyway, I’m just glad that I was able to finally see it in time.”
“Okay. I’ll see what I can do. Can we meet here again? Maybe in two days?”
“In a week. I need to leave the city and come back. They could find me if I stay here for too long.” Lance explained.
“Okay, so next week, this same time, the same day?” Violet suggested.
Lance confirmed with his head and got up.
“I have to go, Vi. It was really nice to see you. I actually missed you a lot.” he said with a soft smile.
Violet returned his smile, and her heart kind of ached from saying goodbye to him.
“Be careful.” she replied, and he left.
It was so nice to see a familiar face after so long, and knowing that Lance was on her side now made her much more hopeful for the future.
But as soon as he disappeared behind the trees again, she started to think about how she could convince Jack.
Their relationship was already pretty shaken, and bring Lance into it was a recipe for disaster.
But she would give it a try. She wouldn’t give up on Lance yet.
Not now that he had finally believed in her.
