The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 70
Violet got a little offended by his observation.
She didn’t like to remember that she was fooled by Gwen’s true character.
Maybe she wasn’t fooled. Gwen could’ve changed after the latest events. It was not like she was someone bad her entire life.
“Gwen fooled all of us. Not even Lance saw what she did coming..”
Jack clenched his jaw. Violet could feel he was trying his hardest not to make a harsh comment towards her.
And he was drinking too fast. That was worrying her.
“Jack, look at me.” she said, coming closer to him. “Can’t you trust me? You were the one scolding me last time for not trusting you, and now you can’t even believe me when I tell you he wasn’t lying.”
“It’s not about believing you or not, Violet. Don’t try to compare you hiding from me a threatening letter and me not believing that Lance has changed.” he got away from her as soon as her hand touched his face.
Jack turned his back to her and returned to look outside of the window.
Maybe the comparison she did was really stupid, but all she wanted was that he supported her decision.
“You can keep an eye on him. You can ask someone to be around him the entire time, so he won’t have a chance to do anything until he can prove he is really by our side.” Violet suggested. “You did that with me when I was your prisoner. You could’ve killed me, and you didn’t.”
Jack sneered.
“That was completely different, Violet. The only reason why I didn’t kill you was because you were my mate. You know that!” he said looking at her now.
“I know! What I’m trying to say is that you can keep him in line. He wouldn’t be stupid to do anything against anyone here. He’d be killed as soon as he finished it.”
Jack didn’t reply.
He turned to look at the window again, and Violet could see his jaw clenched when the light of the moon enlightened his face.
Violet waited a few seconds before she continued.
She tried to come closer to him again, but stopped right after.
He was too mad for her to be gentle with him now.
“Are you sure you’re not just jealous of him? You know you can have control over him here, so maybe you just don’t want him to be near me.”
“Maybe I am, alright?” he yelled looking at her again. “I don’t like him, and I don’t want him surrounding you all the time like a vulture waiting for the best opportunity to act.”
Violet wanted to smile, because Jack was really cute when he was jealous, but his expression was kind of scary, so she tried not to show any emotion.
“I already told you this is not something you should be concerned about. I won’t marry him, even if he wanted me to. And if you want to marry me someday, maybe you should start considering my choices. I won’t be an oppressed wife.”
Jack stared at her like she was speaking another language.
“And by the way, I will meet him next week, whether you like it or not.”
“No, you won’t.” Jack said against his teeth.
Violet stepped forward and gave him the best intimidating glance she could.
“I won’t stay here receiving orders from you like I’m one of your servants. I’m not one anymore, remember? And if you think that I’ll accept you trying to control everything that I do or not, you’re completely wrong. I can leave and never come back.”
Jack kept looking at her astonished.
Maybe he wasn’t expecting her to be so determined.
She didn’t need to say those things, but she was really mad at him for saying she couldn’t do something.
What was happening to them? Why did they keep fighting all the time like that?
Were they doomed to be apart after all?
As time passed, even though they kept making peace and apologizing to one another, she couldn’t stop but think that their relationship was being tested beyond what was considered healthy.
“Do you want to leave?” Jack asked after a few minutes in silent, and Violet almost felt sorry for him.
He looked completely hurt.
“No, I don’t. But I won’t accept anyone bossing me around anymore. I’ve already lived like that, remember? Don’t intend to do it again.”
“I’m just worried about your safety. I’m not trying to boss you around…” he explained, and Violet realized he was already getting drunk.
His sudden change of approach told her that.
“You can worry about my safety and still support my decisions. I wouldn’t do something to put the members from this pack in danger. I know what I’m doing. For the first time, I do.” she confessed.
“I don’t want that man here.” he stated firmly.
Violet took a deep breath before she answered.
“Great! Do what you want. And I’ll do what I want. Have a good night.” she spilled those words and left the room before he said something else.
Her blood was boiling and she didn’t want to continue that conversation anymore that night.
When she thought that Jack was about to change his mind, he showed her that he wouldn’t back down on his decision.
But she also wouldn’t accept him telling her what she could or not do.
If she had to leave his mansion, and even him, to have freedom of choice for the first time in her life, she would do it.
As much as it shattered her soul to do so.
