The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 72
A week passed incredibly fast for Violet.
And when she suddenly realized, it was already the day she agreed to meet Lance in the woods again.
She was going to tell him that he could come to the mansion under the condition that he would be watched the whole time until Jack could finally trust him.
And that would take a long time from what she could tell.
The problem Jack had with Lance was increased because of what Lance could mean to their relationship.
Jack felt that he could be a threat to them, even though it made no sense at all to her.
She didn’t want to marry Lance even before meeting Jack. Now that option was even more out of the table..
But he didn’t seem to care about that. And the fact that Lance also tried to attack her and was from the Diamond Pack made Jack very suspicious of his true intentions.
But since she had agreed to trust her instincts, Lance would have the benefit of the doubt.
With Jack and the others watching him closely the whole time, it was going to be really hard for Lance to do anything against the Rebels. If that was his true intention after all.
Violet decided to talk to Jack before she left, so after breakfast, she passed by his office.
“I’m going to meet Lance. I’ll be back with him later, alright?” she said and gave him a soft and quick kiss before she left.
“Be careful, okay?” Jack said against his will.
Even though he had agreed to it, Violet didn’t want to push him too hard and ask him to be friendly.
She was also struggling with that.
As she approached the part of the river where she had met Lance the last time, Violet felt something weird.
She didn’t know how she could feel it, but something in the atmosphere didn’t seem to be right.
Maybe it was her wolf side alerting him. She looked around and the bushes and trees looked the same.
The weather was nice and hot, but Violet wasn’t feeling well.
There was no sign of Lance anywhere and it had passed more than twenty minutes of the time they determined.
Where was he?
Violet could feel her back and shoulders getting tense.
She couldn’t feel any smell or sense the presence of anyone, so why was she having a bad feeling?
Did Lance trick her? Or maybe something had happened to him.
Had he been caught by the Diamond Pack?
He couldn’t have. She would’ve heard something about it.
Then where the hell was he?
When Violet was about to give up and return home, she heard something behind her.
But she didn’t have a chance to protect herself. She didn’t have time to even think about shielding herself.
Something hit the back of her head and, at the same time, she felt a blow on her side and an enormous pain on her ribs.
Did someone kick her?
She put her hand automatically on her head and looked at it. Her fingers were full of blood.
She couldn’t see who was there behind her because her sight was getting dark.
She was feeling so much pain that it was hard to stay conscious. But she couldn’t faint.
They were going to kill her, whoever it was.
She felt on the ground, supporting the weight of her body with her arms.
But they kept beating her. She could now feel it wasn’t just one person.
She could also see some feet around her, but she wasn’t able to fight back.
Her powers didn’t mean a thing at that moment. She was vulnerable, and they were going to kill her for sure.
But why didn’t they just do it at once? Why were they stalling?
“Just kill me, what are you waiting for?” she wanted to scream, but her voice didn’t come out.
Or maybe it did, and she couldn’t make sense of it anymore.
Apparently Jack was right. She shouldn’t have trusted Lance after all.
Her instincts were also playing tricks on her.
Was Lance one of those men around her? She couldn’t tell.
But she couldn’t believe that she was wrong, even being beaten up to death.
Suddenly, another blow hit her head and she couldn’t stand anymore.
Her arms failed and she felt with her face on the ground.
And the pain was so strong that her scream got stuck inside her throat.
Seconds later she finally fainted. And she couldn’t feel anything else.
***
Violet didn’t know how many minutes passed since she had blacked out, but when she opened her eyes, she saw herself staring at the same ceiling as before.
It was the mansion’s hospital.
With her senses getting back to normal gradually, and with a massive headache, Violet sat on the bed.
Only then she realized the presence of Jack by her side.
The man was sleeping seated on a chair and leaning against his arm, anchored to the tip of her stretcher.
And she found herself thinking if it was possible for her to be tricked by Lance like that?
Something didn’t seem to add up. Could Lance be able to do something like that to her?
Why didn’t he attack her when they were alone the other day? She was also vulnerable at that moment.
But then she reminded that Lance knew about her powers.
Maybe he didn’t want to risk his life, so it would be better to have someone with him.
And Violet felt her eyes filling with tears as she realized that Lance might have lied to her and tried to kill her.
But why wasn’t she dead then?
