The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 75
Violet’s hands were shaking, and she had to calm down before reading the letter.
She sat on the bed and her eyes were full of tears as soon as she started going through the words.
“Hello, Vi.
I know you must be thinking that I set a trap for you. I know that’s what I was going to think if the situation was reversed.
I don’t know how, but Arden’s people found out about our meeting. Maybe they followed me, I really can’t tell.
They also discovered where I was hiding. They ambushed me when I was going to see you the other day, and I really don’t know how I’m still alive..
I was beaten real bad, but they let me live. I’m guessing Arden has other plans for me.
I’m hiding somewhere else, and I don’t want to put you in danger, but I can’t stop thinking if something bad also happened to you.
I really hope you’re alive and receive this letter.
Sorry it took me so long to reach out to you. I was trying to recover. It’s hard to do that when you’re alone and hidden. There’s not much you can do.
But I’m better now.
Anyway, I was wondering if I could see you.
I won’t tell you when or where, since this letter could be intercepted. It would only put us in danger again.
I’ll understand if you don’t want to see me though. But I really didn’t have anything to do with the ambush.
I will find an opportunity to meet you, I’ll let you know.
And if you don’t want me to be around anymore, I’ll understand.
Just hope you’re okay.
With love,
Lance.”
So he had being ambushed as well, just like she thought.
She wasn’t wrong about him. Her instincts were right.
Lance was on her side.
She couldn’t be wrong. If he wanted her dead, she would be dead already.
He had plenty of opportunities to do so.
He didn’t attack her on the river when they first met, and whoever was sent to trap her, didn’t kill her either.
That was more something that Arden would do, not Lance.
And if he was telling the truth, if he was also beaten up, Violet couldn’t stop thinking how he should be suffering, alone in the woods, having to feel pain without receiving any treatment.
Just counting on his animal side to heal him fast.
She decided to tell Jack, even though they weren’t in the best terms yet.
But he had complained that she tried to hide Arden’s letter the last time, so she wouldn’t repeat the same mistake again.
If he was going to support her or not was another thing.
She would do her part.
Violet wiped her tears and ran outside, going straight to Jack’s office.
She was so stunned that she didn’t even remember to knock before entering.
Good thing the man was alone inside.
Jack lifted his head from something he was reading on his table and looked at her surprised.
“I need to talk to you. Actually, I wanted to show you something.” she spat it out as soon as she closed the door behind her.
“What?” Jack asked.
He was still being cold to her, although not so much as before.
A lot of days had passed since his outburst in the hospital, and since they weren’t seeing each other so much, Violet thought he was getting softer with her.
Nothing like the time to heal the wounds.
But she was certain that Lance’s letter would reopen that wound immediately.
But she didn’t care.
She had to show that she was right, even if he didn’t believe her.
Violet took a few steps forward and stretched her hand with the piece of paper in it.
Jack looked at it with puzzled eyes.
“What is it?” he asked with his brows raised.
“You didn’t like that I tried to hide something from you the last time, so I came to show you what I just received. I hope you can read it with an open mind.” Violet said as he grabbed the letter from her hand.
She could see his eyes going through the words in a rush, but his expression didn’t change at all.
He was the serious Alpha at that moment, not her sweet and kind boyfriend.
But she knew he wasn’t going to back down, so it was not a surprise.
When Jack finished, he tossed the letter on his table and got up from the chair, turning his back to her and contemplating the view outside of the window.
He seemed to do that a lot when he was angry.
Violet thought that was his way to calm himself before talking to her.
“What do you want me to say, Violet? That I believe him?” he asked in a low voice, still not looking at her.
“I know you don’t. I just wanted to show you that maybe I wasn’t completely wrong to think he was a victim too.”
“Or maybe you were, and he’s just lying to you again.” Jack said coldly.
Violet could see the muscles from his back tense with anger.
It was hard to say if Jack was more annoyed with Lance because of his background or his affection for Violet.
If it was the latter, Violet thought it was childish of him.
He had no reason to be jealous of Lance, as she had told him a thousand times.
“I won’t tell you what you can or not do.” Jack continued. “I just hope you’re not thinking of meeting him again after what happened.”
Violet took a deep breath.
“You already know I am.”
