The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 79
“Lance?” Violet called after a few seconds of pure awkwardness.
It was like both of them were frozen, just staring at each other.
She had to do something to break that icy moment before she started to laugh.
The man seemed to have been woken up from a really deep dream. He blinked a few times realizing what was the situation.
And then he looked extremely embarrassed.
Just as Lucinda.
Violet looked from one to another, feeling that she was at the wrong place..
It was really weird to be in the middle of a very intimate moment, even though she could never imagine that something like that would happen.
“Violet.” Lance finally answered, coming closer, but still making sure he didn’t make any abrupt movement and was misinterpreted by any of them.
Lucinda was still quiet, but Violet realized now that her cheeks were very red.
But as soon as she pulled herself together, she came back to her guard posture, making sure to intimidate anyone around with her glance.
Lance was looking from Violet to Lucinda, clearly shaken up by an unknown feeling.
Violet knew exactly how he was feeling though.
But she had more important things to do at that moment, so the whole mate bond thing would have to wait.
“How are you feeling?” she asked him, scanning his body for the first time.
He had a lot of bruises on his arms and face, but she couldn’t see if there was something worst under his clothes.
It probably had, because he wasn’t looking very good.
His dark circles were very evident, he was thinner than when they met a few days before, and looked extremely tired.
“I must confess I’ve had better days.” he said with a soft smile.
Something that Violet was certain that would make Lucinda’s heart race uncontrollably.
But she was avoiding looking at her friend, because the moment was awkward enough already without her meddling in.
“And you?” he added.
“I’m good as new. But you look terrible.” she replied with a smirk.
Lance retributed with a grimace.
Lucinda looked uncomfortable being part of that conversation, and just then Violet realized that she hadn’t introduced them to one another.
“Oh… I’m so sorry! I was so caught up in the moment that I didn’t introduce you guys. Lance, this is Lucinda. Lucinda, this is my brother Lance.”
The awkwardness came back as a wrecking ball.
“It’s very nice to meet you, Lucinda.” Lance said and nodded his head, clearly annoyed that he couldn’t come closer to shake Lucinda’s hand.
But since that could be considered a dangerous approach, and interpreted as an attack, he decided to stay still.
Lucinda shook her head as well, very embarrassed, but not losing her composure.
“You too.” she murmured back.
Violet decided to break the ice again.
“So, what happened?” Violet asked the question that was eating her from inside.
She wanted to know everything.
“Honestly, I don’t know how they found out about us meeting that day. Someone must had been followed. That’s the only explanation.” he explained.
Violet also thought about that, and had reached the same conclusion.
It was the only explanation to why someone knew they were going to meet again at that time and place, because they decided that while talking in the woods.
There wasn’t any evidence that could be stolen and nobody else that knew about it.
“I was hiding in an abandoned warehouse a few miles from here, and was going to leave a little earlier to meet you. But when I got out, it was surrounded by wolves. I recognized a few of them instantly, but I was clearly outnumbered.”
Violet started to picture the scene inside her mind.
“I shifted as soon as possible, but they attacked me, all at once. I didn’t stand a chance. But I don’t know why they didn’t kill me. It didn’t make sense to me.” Lance continued.
Violet frowned.
“Anyway… I also don’t understand why they didn’t kill any of us.” she got back to the main topic.
“Maybe it was just a warning from Arden. Go figure. I heard he is trying to come back.” Lance continued.
“Did you hear about Gwen as well? I talked to her on the phone, and asked if the rumors were true. She said she really wants to build the wall again and basically asked me to disappear from her life.” Violet explained.
Lance looked down, and Violet could feel that he was thinking the same as her.
“It’s weird, isn’t it? How our lives changed so drastically all of a sudden?” he asked. “I can’t deny that is sad to see that Gwen had changed like this.”
“Yeah… Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about something. I was planning on bringing you to the mansion, but Jack is not willing to believe you, like I told you before.” Violet continued. “I suggested that we kept you under surveillance until you could, you know, gain everyone’s trust.”
Lance nodded, following the reflection and realizing something.
“You told him about our almost marriage, didn’t you?” Lance asked with a smirk.
Violet could feel Lucinda gasping by her side, even though Violet had mentioned that to her before.
But maybe Lucinda was caught off guard just like Violet had, since she also didn’t imagine that Lance would bring that topic to the conversation all of a sudden.
What was he going to say? Especially now that he had apparently found his mate, and she was standing in front of him?
