The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 81
Jack’s eyes passed from Violet, to Lucinda and finally stopped on Lance.
Violet could feel the atmosphere becoming cold instantly.
She didn’t know what to do.
Jack was obviously infuriated with her, not only for bringing Lance to their territory, but for not telling him about it.
“Lucinda, take Violet inside.” he stated without looking at Violet.
“Jack, let me explain, please.”
“Now, Lucinda.” he ignored her..
Lucinda looked at Violet and said sorry as she touched Violet’s shoulder and pulled her forward.
But Violet wasn’t going to let Lance alone with Jack.
Especially not when he was clearly mad.
“I’m not going anywhere, alright?” she shoved Lucinda’s hand from her shoulder. “I told you I was going to meet him again, I’m not doing anything behind your back.” she explained, even though no one asked her to.
Jack wasn’t looking at her yet.
He had his sharp eyes fixed on Lance, that was also looking at him expressionless.
“It’s okay, Vi. Just get inside. We’ll talk, from man to man.” Lance said behind her back.
She gulped and looked at him.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, it’s okay. I’m sure he won’t do anything to me while you’re inside.” he teased with a smirk.
“Don’t be so sure.” Jack murmured with angry eyes.
“He wouldn’t risk to lose you just because of me.” Lance provoked him, and Violet looked at him terrified.
Why was he making things even worse? Couldn’t he see that Jack was about to murder him?
But Lance’s words seemed to have a sort of impact on Jack, because his expression got softer somehow.
“Jack, come on. Let’s just go inside and talk about this, okay? Let him go.” Violet begged.
But the man was unbending.
“We’re just going to talk, Violet.” Jack said against his teeth. “It’s a truce. Right?”
He raised his brows to Lance, as a sign of threat.
Either he would agree, or Jack would do whatever he had to do.
“Of course.” Lance confirmed. “It’s been a truce from my part for a while now actually.”
“Yeah, right.” Jack sneered. “Violet, can you please go with Lucinda now?”
Violet didn’t feel like going. She didn’t want to leave the two of them alone.
The conversation could get heated, they could argue and get into a fight. And then who would separate them?
They could kill each other.
Jack was very angry, and Lance was still hurt.
“Promise me you won’t do anything to him.” she came closer and grabbed his face, making him look at her.
The intensity and force that came from those eyes were too much, but she sustained it anyway.
“I said it’s a truce, Violet.” Jack said impatiently.
“Promise me.” she insisted.
“Fine, I promise. Now go.” he concluded looking away again.
Feeling like she was leaving her heart outside between the two of them, she accompanied Lucinda inside the mansion, leaving both men behind to talk about whatever they wanted to talk.
She couldn’t calm herself down, her heart was pounding like a drum, her hands were shaking and she was starting to feel like throwing up.
She trusted Jack and knew he wasn’t going to break his promise.
But even so, she couldn’t stay calm as they talked outside.
Why did Jack want to talk to him alone? Why couldn’t she be a part of the conversation?
Lucinda seemed to be uneasy as well, but didn’t let it show.
Even out of duty, she was trying her hard not to show any emotion.
She told Violet to wait on her bed while she went to the kitchen to grab some tea for Violet to calm herself.
Violet thought it was also an opportunity for her friend to grasp a fresh air alone and make sense of everything that had happened on those few minutes she met Lance.
Lucinda came back a few minutes later with a cup of tea on her hand and offered it to Violet.
Violet didn’t feel like drinking it, since her stomach was making signs that would return everything that she put inside, but Lucinda insisted.
While Violet drank the tea, she watched Lucinda walk from side to side inside her room, almost making a hole on the floor.
“Lucinda.” Violet called, taking her friend out of her own thoughts.
She looked really lost.
Violet had never seen her like that before.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
Lucinda shook her head aggressively, and Violet thought she was trying to convince herself of that.
“I… I know what happened down there.”
Lucinda looked at her with frightened eyes.
“So… I was right.” Lucinda murmured, and Violet could barely hear her voice. “He’s my mate, isn’t he?”
Violet confirmed with a soft smile.
“Oh, my God!” Lucinda collapsed on the chair near the window. “How could it be? How could I be so unlucky?”
“What do you mean?” Violet frowned her brows. “Unlucky why? Lance is a nice man, Lucinda.”
“That’s not what I meant. I know he is. I could feel he was being honest.”
Violet felt her heart at ease because of those words. Maybe the mate bond gave Lucinda the reassurance Violet needed to know that Lance was being sincere.
It was nice to know someone else also believed that.
Maybe Lucinda could be an addition to help Violet convince Jack about him.
If they came out alive from their little talk.
But Violet shook her head trying to forget about that for a while.
“What are you worried about then? Why are you unlucky?”
Lucinda looked at her with teary eyes.
“How will I ever be with someone that’s being chased, wanted by a very powerful bad man that wants to kill him? I’m sorry…” Lucinda apologized by saying that about Arden. But Violet didn’t care anymore. “And to conclude, my Alpha hates his guts!”
