The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 82
As soon as Violet and Lucinda left, Jack felt like he could do anything.
He was trying the best he could to ignore the fact that Violet had met that man outside of his own house without telling him about it.
How could she?
It was true that she had warned him that she would meet Lance again, but he didn’t think she was going to be so bold.
Of course it was better that the meeting had been closer to him instead of in the middle of the woods.
That way, if anything happened, it would be better for him to go after Lance.
But when he learned that Violet had left with Lucinda so late at night, he got completely mad.
And when his eyes felt upon Lance, Jack was certain that he would do something really bad if Violet wasn’t there..
But then she asked him to promise not hurt the man, and even though all Jack wanted was to beat his ass, he agreed.
Because he couldn’t risk to lose her.
And when Lance pointed out that was going to happen if Jack did anything to him, Jack felt conflicted.
He suggested a truce for that night, only so he could have a talk to Lance and clarify everything he needed clarified.
It was true that jealousy was blinding him. He couldn’t help it.
Jack never thought he would be the jealous type, but knowing that Lance wanted to marry Violet previously, and that he had lived with her for almost her entire life, awakened something bad inside of him.
But she was begging him so much to trust her, that she was sure that Lance was on their side, so maybe he should give the benefit of the doubt.
Violet was right to say that it would be better to keep an eye on him inside the mansion instead of letting the man wandering around his own territory.
Jack would have more control over him from inside.
“So, what is it that you want to discuss?” Lance said as soon as the girls left.
Jack cleaned his throat and used his best intimidating look to stare at him.
“Violet keeps suggesting that you are on our side now. And that you want to help.” Jack started.
Lance just nodded.
“I wonder why is that. You didn’t hesitate when you attacked her when she was trying to escape from the palace that day.”
Lance looked ashamed all of a sudden.
“I wasn’t thinking rationally. I was just doing my job.”
“I see… So you didn’t think before attacking your own sister, or should I say the woman you love? Because I heard that you also want to marry her, isn’t that right? It’s a bit confusing for me, sorry.” Jack said sarcastically while staring at him with narrowed eyes.
“I was conflicted for a moment, yes. But then I realized that she could provoke a war by simply stealing some files from the palace. I had to stop her. Now I see I should’ve simply let her go, but what’s done is done, right?”
Jack didn’t reply.
“And about her being the woman I love, I also realized that it was a confused feeling I had to figure out on my own. I don’t think you could understand what is like to have your life dictated by someone. Even less to understand that you can’t chose who you’re going to live your life with. I had no choice.” Lance continued.
Jack clenched his fist, not wanting to give in so soon.
He wouldn’t be tricked by that man so easily.
Even if he seemed to be a very honest and fair man.
As far as he was concerned, Lance could be a really good actor.
“Anyway, it made sense to me that I tried to live a happy life with Violet, if that was my future anyway. She was raised by my side, knew my worst side, and was an amazing woman. So why not? I could be happy with her.” Lance explained, and Jack wanted to punch him in the face so badly.
And the smile on Lance’s face that followed after that only increased that desire.
“But you don’t need to worry anymore. I figured it out. I don’t love Violet like I thought I did. I mean, I do, but it’s more like a sister and brother love. Not the one you’re so jealous about.” he teased.
Jack clenched his jawline with so much strength that he thought his teeth would break.
“I don’t want to marry her anymore. I told her that before you arrived. And she also came with a very pleasant, yet confusing, surprise.
“What do you mean?” Jack managed to utter.
“Apparently, the woman that came with her is my mate. I must confess that I’m still bewildered by that.”
“You mean Lucinda?” Jack got out of character for a brief second.
He was just as surprised as Lance, apparently.
The man in front of him nodded with a friendly smile.
Jack could see now why Violet liked him so much.
He seemed to be a very nice person indeed. And if the circumstances were different, he could even be his friend.
And would be an amazing addition to the Rebels’ army, too.
Lance looked like he had been a soldier his entire life. It was imprinted in his posture, his face, everything.
“Anyway, I know that you have all the reasons not to trust me. I wouldn’t trust myself either if the situation was the other way around. But I truly want to help.” Lance confessed.
Jack looked at him with so much intensity, as if he could read Lance’s soul and see what were his true intentions.
“I had time to think, and it was really hard to believe everything that Violet found out. I believe it was hard for her as well. I actually can imagine now what she must had suffered being alone during that time.”
“She wasn’t alone.” Jack stated immediately. “I was by her side when her whole family turned her back on her.”
Lance lowered his head with shame.
“Yeah, I’m actually thankful for that. She deserves someone that care for her. You know, I’m willing to prove myself to you and your pack. I also have some information that I think will be useful to you. I heard you are searching for Arden and his men as well?”
“We are. Everyone is. But some of us want to find them before the Diamond Pack. We don’t trust their methods anymore. And now even less.”
“Because of the rumors, right?” Lance asked serious all of a sudden, like a true soldier.
“Exactly. If they are planning to build the walls again, it could only mean one thing on my eyes. And if Arden succeeds in reaching the palace with his army, it will be even harder to take him out again.”
“That’s for sure. That’s why you need to weaken him when he’s not waiting for it. I know where some of his men are. You can go there with your members and attack them. That would take him off guard.” Lance suggested.
Jack felt excited instantly. He loved a good fight. Especially one that had him ambushing some bad guys.
And if that helped him to stop Arden from coming back, maybe he was willing to trust Lance just once.
“Okay. So here’s the deal.” he started barely believing what he was about to say. “You can come to the mansion, but we’ll be watching you 24/7. If you try to do anything, anything at all, I’ll kill you. I don’t care if Violet will hate me for that.” Jack said firmly.
Lance nodded.
“We’ll work on your tips and come up with a tactical strategy to get Arden’s men. I’m giving you a chance to prove yourself. To prove that you’re on our side and wants to become a Rebel. Maybe I can start trusting you then.” Jack concluded. “But don’t do anything stupid.”
Lance shook his head again in confirmation, and Jack actually felt good about his decision.
He was having a good feeling about that partnership.
