The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 83
Violet tried to calm Lucinda while trying to calm herself at the same time.
No sign of Jack yet, so she was getting more nervous as the minutes passed.
She also didn’t know what to say to Lucinda.
It was a very delicate and confusing situation indeed.
Violet herself had experienced something similar when she met Jack, and she thought it would never get solved since they were enemies.
Not that Lucinda and Lance had any particular beef between them, but the fact that Lance was being chased and people wanted him dead made the whole thing more complex than it had to be.
“Lucinda, I don’t really know what to tell you. What I do know is that we’ll work this out. Lance is trying to prove himself, and I really want him to come to the Rebels.. All we need to do is convince Jack.”
Lucinda rolled her eyes.
“Right. Don’t you have an easier task? Because this sounds stupid, even coming from you. Jack will never accept that.”
Violet frowned, but smile right after.
“Don’t underestimate me. I can be quite persuasive.”
That wasn’t the case lately though, because persuasive was something she wasn’t being at all.
Jack was barely talking to her, so she couldn’t believe her words would mean anything to him at the moment.
But she would keep trying until she succeeded.
She had to.
Lance was the only thing left from her past life, and he was a good person.
She couldn’t stand the idea of him being alone forever, trying to survive, without a home or a family.
“My shift will start in a few minutes, so I should get going.” Lucinda said melancholically.
“Okay, let me know if you there are any news.” Violet asked, receiving a nod in return.
Lucinda left the room, and Violet felt the disturbing silence that followed.
She could almost hear her heart beating.
Why were they taking so long?
She couldn’t even try to sleep, because she was too nervous for that. Her body wouldn’t be able to calm down until she knew what happened with their conversation.
Long minutes passed, or maybe even hours, she couldn’t tell, and suddenly Lucinda knocked on her door again and opened it, not looking very happy.
“The guards on my shift said that Jack went back to his room a few minutes ago. They didn’t see anything though.”
“What? He’s back and didn’t even come to tell me what happened? I can’t believe this!” Violet huffed and left the room without saying anything else to her friend.
She was completely mad, completely annoyed with the fact that Jack didn’t even bother to tell her anything.
She marched to his room and didn’t even knock on the door, she simply stormed inside.
It took her a while to adjust her sight to the lighting because the room was darker than the hallway.
There was just a lamp illuminating the room, and Jack was laid on his back contemplating the ceiling.
When Violet bursted in, he turned his head to look who it was, but didn’t look surprised at all.
“Why didn’t you come to tell me what happened when you returned?” she asked, slamming the door on her back.
Jack turned to stare at the ceiling again.
“I thought you were already sleeping.” he replied.
“How could I possibly sleep when you are outside with Lance and I don’t know what is happening? I was almost having a heart attack.” she confessed completely astonished.
“Why? It’s not like I was going to kill the guy.”
“Well, I couldn’t possibly know that, could I? You ordered me to get inside.” Violet complained and took a deep breath. “Where is Lance anyway?”
The words came out of her mouth like a whisper. She wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer to that question.
Jack calmly draw his attention away from the ceiling and laid those grayish green eyes on her.
Good thing she was mad at him, because those eyes staring at her with that dimmed room could bring some dirty thoughts to her mind.
“Lance is in a room in the dungeon being watched 24/7. He’s being well treated though, you don’t need to worry about it. We provided him some food, clothes and I even let him take a shower.” Jack explained still looking into her soul.
Violet widened her eyes in tremendous shock.
Was she hearing right?
“Are you serious?” she whispered, barely able to form a proper sentence.
She wasn’t expecting that at all.
Of course she had suggested that Jack accepted Lance in the mansion, but the fact that he was so nice to Lance wasn’t in her imagination.
Suddenly, she felt her heart filled with joy, relief, love and all the good feelings she wasn’t having in a long time.
Especially towards Jack.
She realized that he always showed her how much he loved her, even though in his own ways.
But Violet didn’t care. She loved him for that, and she really had to admit that he always seemed to care about her opinion, even though he didn’t show it all the time.
She was so grateful for him, yet was having a hard time to know how to demonstrate it.
“Yes, you can go and see for yourself if you don’t believe me.”
Jack sounded somewhat upset and disappointed, but she couldn’t contain her happiness.
So she did what she wasn’t planning on doing when she stormed inside his room a few minutes before.
Violet ran towards him and tossed herself on Jack, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him to the strongest hug she could possibly give.
That made them fall laid on the bed, and for the first time in days, Violet felt that she was exactly where she belonged.
On his arms, finally.
