The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 86
“Thank you, Lance. This means a lot to me.” Violet said as she approached both men near the table.
She glanced at the paper over it, and realized they were working on a map, even though she couldn’t understand why.
“Do you mind telling me what is this about?” she asked looking at Jack.
“Lance is showing me where some of Arden’s men are. Like I told you yesterday, we are planning on going after them, to prevent them from helping Arden.” Jack explained.
Lance opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment, the door opened with a kick and a couple of guards entered carrying someone.
Violet almost had a heart attack at first, but got it together right after..
Jack and Lance automatically stood in a defensive position, and Jack appeared in front of Violet in a split second to protect her.
She didn’t know how he even managed to do that so quickly.
When he realized what was happening, Jack changed from defensive to angry.
“What the f*ck is going on here?” he asked in a fit of rage.
“Sorry to barge in, boss. But this was very urgent.”
Only then Violet realized it was Mark who was one of the guards carrying the man. The other guard was Fiona, a very powerful wolf, friends with Lucinda.
But Violet couldn’t remember the name of the man being carried. He was also wearing an uniform.
She knew him by sight, but she still didn’t have familiarity with all the members from the Rebels, so some of them weren’t well known to her.
“What is it, Mark?” Jack asked again, sounding a little less angry now.
“We found the spy. We caught him as he was trying to get out of the mansion. We’re assuming he was going to tell Arden about Lance being here.”
Jack narrowed his eyes, but Violet noticed he wasn’t surprised.
“Peter. I should’ve known.”
The man who had been captured looked at Jack with the most disgusted look on his face and an irritating smirk.
Violet wanted to punch his teeth because of that.
“Yeah, right. You should. But you were too busy worried about your stupid girlfriend to care about your little pack, weren’t you?” Peter spat it out.
Violet saw Jack clenching his fist until his knuckles got white.
“Watch your mouth.” Jack murmured between his teeth. Violet knew he was doing his best not to kill the man right there. “I don’t mind killing you before you can beg for your life.”
Violet also knew Jack could be quite scary, but she never saw him being that scary.
It was like he was locking his demon inside so he wouldn’t make a mess out of that situation.
“Why did you betray us? If you don’t mind me asking.” Jack continued.
Peter didn’t struggle to get away from the hands that were holding him.
In fact, it was like he was even enjoying the whole show.
“I play for the winning side, Jack. You know that. And Arden seems to be on it. He lost a battle, but he didn’t lost the war.”
“Yet.” Lance spoke for the first time since the interruption.
“It’s amusing that you think you can beat him. But anyway…”
“How did you find out it was him?” Jack interrupted him by asking the guards.
“We did as you told us. We spread some fake information to see if someone was going to act weird.” Fiona explained. “We were already suspecting him, but he was really slippery. And then when we talked about Lance, we saw that he got tense all of a sudden. He was really eager to end his shift.”
“We asked what he had to do that was so urgent, and he said he had to solve some things downtown, but we noticed he was stuttering and a bit nervous.” Mark continued. “So we framed him and it didn’t take much for him to confess actually.”
“We think he was going to tell Arden about Lance being at our side. That’s why he seemed so nervous to leave. A terrible spy, I must add.” Fiona commented.
Violet saw Peter making a grimace, and almost laughed. If only the situation wasn’t so horrifying.
She remembered clearly when Morgana asked her if she knew what happened to spies in the Rebels pack.
“You do know what happens to spies here, right?” the woman had said.
Violet didn’t want to think about that at the time, but now it was too real to ignore.
She knew what was going to be Peter’s fate. He couldn’t escape from it.
Jack was still tense by her side, but no one was talking.
Everyone seemed to be waiting for his orders.
Violet didn’t know how long Peter was part of the Rebels, so maybe it would be even harder to make him pay for his treason if he was considered a member of the family.
But Violet knew there wasn’t forgiveness for that kind of thing inside the pack.
Not that they were bad people, but they had their rules to follow. It was like that since forever, and she wasn’t going to meddle in his defense.
“Lock him in the dungeon.” Jack finally said, looking conflicted. “I need to think. I’ll try to get something useful out of him later.”
Fiona and Mark nodded and pulled Peter out of the room. Jack took a deep breath and turned his back to the door, going straight to his chair and collapsing on it as he rubbed his temple.
“Good thing they caught him before he managed to leave.” Lance commented. “Do you think he’ll talk?”
Jack shook his head in denial.
“He’s a very hard one.” he replied. “Morgana never liked him. I should’ve kept an eye on him.”
“It’s not your fault.” Violet uttered.
“I know, but I’m the Alpha. I should know better who I bring to the pack. No offense.” he added to Lance.
“None taken.” he replied.
“What are you going to do?” Violet asked, already knowing the answer. “If you already think he won’t say anything…”
“Well, I’ll give it a try. Everyone deserves a chance to explain themselves, so, as the leader, I’ll do that. But we all know how this ends, right?”
Violet felt really bad for Jack. She couldn’t imagine being in his shoes and have to make a decision like that.
“Do you need some time? I can come back later.” Lance suggested.
“No, I want to solve this as faster as I can. Now more than ever.” Jack said getting up from the chair and pouring whisky in one of the glasses. “I want to see Arden paying for everything he did.”
And Violet saw the two men she loved the most in her life exchanging glances of mutual fury and determination.
