The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 9
Violet started to feel all the sensations she felt when they kissed, and they weren’t even touching each other.
That electricity running through her veins, the butterflies on her stomach, his smell inebriating her senses, all of that was very vivid to her.
“You can feel that, right?” he asked in a low voice, and Violet could feel that he was also struggling to keep his hands to himself, just like her.
She couldn’t stop but think that he was so clean and handsome in front of her, and she was dirty and ugly, without a shower and probably with a blurry make up.
“How could you possibly ignore that?” he continued, and Violet almost laughed.
She was asking herself the same question over and over again, ever since they met.
She had never struggled so badly like at that moment.
All she wanted to do was to wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him like there was no tomorrow..
No Diamond Pack, no Rebels, no nothing.
Just the two of them.
But that was just a utopia. It was a dream that she wanted to become reality.
But real life was entirely different.
She couldn’t have a relationship with the enemy.
“I don’t really have a choice.” she answered.
Jack stared at her, surprised.
“How come you don’t have a choice? You’re old enough to kill me but not to make your own decisions?” he asked annoyed.
Violet laughed.
“If you say I’m from the Diamond Pack, don’t you think we should be considered enemies instead of lovers?”
That took Jack off guard. Maybe he wasn’t expecting her to be so straightforward.
And from the look on his face, Violet pissed him off.
Badly.
He stood on his feet aggressively, like he was trying really hard to keep his anger inside.
Jack turned his back at Violet and kept walking from side to side without looking at her.
Violet wondered if it was best to ask something and continue the conversation, pissing him even more, or to just shut up and wait for him to calm down.
None of those options seemed good enough for her. But she decided to go with the first one.
“Didn’t you think about that? Or did you think I was going to betray my family to be with you? You’re obviously not worth it.”
That was harsh. Violet regretted saying it the moment the words came out of her mouth.
But it was too late.
She didn’t know Jack, but she heard the stories.
Even though he was treating her really well for a prisoner, he was still keeping her locked in a dungeon, and that was enough for her to believe the stories she heard.
Even if his actions seemed nothing like what upheld his reputation.
With his teeth clenched, Jack turned to look at Violet again, and she couldn’t know if he was hurt by her words or just infuriated at her.
“Well… I can see that you didn’t change your mind about me. No matter how nicely I treat you.”
“Nicely?” Violet spit the words aggressively, with a mocking smile on her lips. “Is locking me inside a dungeon and giving me food a nice way to treat me?”
“Well, you would already be dead if you were someone else! Didn’t you think about that?” Jack snapped at her.
Violet opened her mouth several times before she was able to form a proper sentence.
“What do you mean?” she asked in a low voice. Firstly because he was really angry, and secondly because his words affected her more than she expected.
Jack stared deeply into her eyes, with those enigmatic and shining eyes that baffled her so much.
“I just kept you alive because it’s you. You’re my mate, so I didn’t have the courage to do it.” he explained, annoyed at himself. “But now I’m starting to think that it was a terrible decision. I should think about me and my pack, not about someone that only thinks about herself.”
Violet felt her heart breaking with his words.
At first she was moved by the fact that he chose not to kill her, because it could mean that he cared about her.
But hearing him talking about her like a selfish person hurt her feelings more than she could imagine.
If it came from anyone else in the world, she probably wouldn’t mind.
But knowing that he saw her that way made Violet really sad.
“I…” she started to say something, but she couldn’t find the right words.
She just tried to say that she couldn’t be with him, but she didn’t mean to offend him.
She was angry that she couldn’t be with him because of some stupid rule. And also the fact that he was the main enemy of her family.
What would Arden even say about that?
He would definitely kick her out of the palace and their pack.
That was something really hard to think about.
“You know… I came here to consider taking you out of this dungeon if you at least told me why you are here. But now I can see that you rather die than tell me anything.”
Violet swallowed with difficulty.
Was that true?
Was it worth to die because of Arden’s ideals?
It was true that Jack was a horrible person, but he gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Should she do the same?
But when she decided to do it, when she decided that she would go on with whatever he wanted to do, Jack turned his back at her again and crossed the door, slamming it hardly and leaving Violet alone again.
And she finally surrendered to her tears.
