The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 91
“What?” Violet asked in a murmur.
Jack was rubbing his forehead as he tried to figure out what to do and what had happened.
How could Peter kill himself?
“Wasn’t he being watched? How did he manage to commit suicide?” Lance asked also trying to put the pieces together.
Violet sat on the chair in front of Jack’s table, feeling her legs tremble all of a sudden.
She knew Peter was going to die some time, but she wasn’t expecting that outcome.
It was a strange feeling to know someone had taken their own life.
“Why would he do such thing?” she asked in a whisper.
“He already knew he was going to die. Maybe he wanted to avoid being tortured, even though we don’t do this here.” Jack explained.
“Or maybe he was afraid to say something really important.” Lance suggested.
“The guards don’t know how he did it. They were watching him, but after the change of shift, they realized he was already dead.”
“Oh, my God…” Violet could barely keep her thoughts straight. Her brain seemed to be working incessantly, trying to make sense of what had just happened.
“What now?” Lance asked. “We can’t take anything out of him anymore. Do you think Arden knew about the attack?”
Jack shook his head in denial.
“I don’t think so. He would be angrier in the letter, don’t you think? If he knew we killed a lot of his men?” Jack asked.
Violet looked at Lance as he nodded.
It actually made sense.
So the letter had been left in her room after they left for the mission, but before Arden heard about it.
“Before you came back, we were talking about something.” Lance started to talk after a few minutes of pure silence.
Jack looked at him with curious eyes.
“Lance suggested that Arden’s been inside the palace this whole time.” Violet completed.
Jack looked from her to Lance with a frown in his forehead.
“What? How would that even be possible?” he asked, still unaware of the hidden room.
Lance explained the same thing that he had told Violet a while before.
“So you never saw this room, but you know it exists? Maybe Arden was just lying?” Jack uttered.
But Lance just shook his head.
“I’ve never been there, but I know how to get to it. Sometimes Arden would go missing in the palace, but his men seemed to know how to get to him in a short period of time. I always knew he should be in this so-called room, but he never mentioned it to me, so I kept quiet about it.” Lance explained.
“Have you never thought it was odd that he didn’t mention it to you?” Jack raised his brows.
Violet also thought the same thing.
“You were the Beta, I thought Arden would’ve trusted you with everything.” she commented.
“Apparently not.” Lance said with annoyance. “It’s good that he haven’t though. I could’ve done something really bad if I knew about all of his secrets, couldn’t I?”
Violet stayed silent since they were past that topic now and had more important things to discuss.
“So, if Arden is inside the palace, we won’t be able to get him. People are saying that Gwen already started to rebuild the wall. What are we going to do?” she asked feeling anxious.
“I’m gonna talk to our allies. We need to invade the palace.” Jack simply said.
“What? How are we going to invade the castle if we don’t even know if he’s there?” Violet asked in shock. “What if he isn’t? We’re going to cause a war with the Diamond Pack.”
“Well, that’s the only way, isn’t it?” Jack said. “If he’s inside the palace and the walls are built, we won’t be able to get there easily. We don’t have much of a choice.”
“It’s really a shot in the dark.” Lance stated. “But I agree with him. We don’t have much choices left. And we can’t let Arden get his power back and keep threatening you. We already know what he’s capable of. We need some advantage.”
Violet wasn’t convinced yet. It was too risky.
And she couldn’t even imagine what she would do if any of them died in that suicide mission.
“We already have the advantage. We just got rid of dozens of his men. Come on, it can’t be the only way.” she insisted.
Violet couldn’t imagine them ending up being successful with that plan.
“Do you have another idea, Vi? We’d be willing to hear if you have.” Jack asked her with pitiful eyes.
She knew how he should be feeling by suggesting that, but she understood they didn’t have any choices left.
So she simply shook her head and stayed in silence.
“Anyway, I just wanted to make something clear to both of you, since we’re all here.” Jack continued. “If we do find him, I’m gonna kill him.”
Violet lifted her head, but Lance’s voice came into her ear like a knife before she made sense of what Jack had said.
“No, you won’t. I’m the one who’s going to do it. Arden is mine.” Lance uttered, and his voice was so firm and intense, that Violet looked at him with widened eyes.
She could actually see a future where Lance would want to get revenge with his own hands, but she didn’t expect that his voice would carry so much anger and determination.
Neither she or Jack had anything to comment after that, so she saw Jack simply nodding, and they started to make plans and strategies as Jack contacted the allies.
Violet went to sleep that night with her head full of tactical plans, but her heart was anxious and full of sorrow.
All she wanted was that all of that mess ended up soon.
She couldn’t take much more of it.
But she also knew that the worst was yet to come.
