The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 95
It took Violet a while to make sense of everything that had happened.
When she finally realized that Arden wasn’t alive anymore, she took a deep breath and put her hand in the part of her head that had been hit.
A lot of blood was coming out of it, but she didn’t care.
Lance looked extremely hopeless after finishing his mission, and even though Violet knew he wanted to take revenge on the man, Lance wasn’t a violent person.
So he should be going through an internal conflict for sure.
But it was Gwen who was catching their full attention now.
The woman had ran to her father’s body and collapsed on top it, crying and screaming compulsively.
Violet felt really bad for her, but at the same time, a low voice inside her head kept saying that Gwen was now experiencing the same thing that she and Lance had experienced when they were just kids.
She didn’t want to sound cold and insensitive by saying that, so she kept the thought to herself.
Lance came by Violet’s side as they both kept staring at Gwen.
“Are you alright?” he asked in a low voice.
Violet just nodded.
She couldn’t take her eyes off of Gwen.
“We need to get out of here.” Lance continued.
“What about her?” Violet asked.
“We’re taking her with us. We need to summon an urgent meeting to know if the council still wants her to continue as the leader of the pack, which I’m assuming they won’t.” Lance explained.
Violet nodded again.
Lance squatted by Gwen’s side and tried to pull her away from the body but she shoved him.
He then said something in her ear that Violet couldn’t comprehend, and the woman seemed to realize what was the actual situation, so she got on her feet and accompanied Lance.
Violet could have a glimpse of Gwen’s red and swollen eyes, but the girl didn’t even look at her.
As she followed Lance and Gwen out of the hidden room, Violet risked to take a look at Arden for the last time.
She knew she would regret, but she wanted to see with her own eyes that the nightmare was finally over.
She could only hope that now she would have a happy life by Jack’s side.
As soon as they reached the hallway where Jack was supposed to be guarding, Violet realized that Gwen had to pass by him to reach them.
And as that thought occurred to her, she saw a figure lying on the floor at the end of the hallway, exactly where Jack was when they left.
“Oh, my God…” she whispered running to check on him. “Don’t be dead, please, don’t be dead.”
Violet repeated it almost like a mantra until she got to Jack. Only when she saw that he was breathing, she was able to breathe properly again.
But her hands were still shaking from the scare. She couldn’t imagine what would happen if she had lost Jack now.
“You stay here with him until he wakes up. I’m going back with Gwen to talk to the pack. I’ll meet you outside later, okay?” Lance suggested, already pulling Gwen through the path they took before.
Violet wasn’t able to say anything since she was still shaken up by everything.
Sitting down by Jack’s side, she put his head on her lap and started to caress his hair, praying that he would wake up soon.
She needed to get out of that place as quick as possible. She wanted to simply forget about all those moments and start a new life with him, with the Rebels, Lance, Lucinda, and everyone she had met on that year.
Her head was hurting like crazy, and she was starting to feel her sight get blurred.
Violet didn’t know how many minutes had passed when she felt Jack moving on her leg.
Lowering her eyes, she saw that he had his eyes opened, although looking a bit dazed and confused.
“Jack, you’re awake!” she said pulling him for a hug.
“Ouch, Vi!” he murmured when she tightened her arms around him. “I think she broke my ribs, and my shoulder is burning. Be careful, please.”
“I’m sorry.” she apologized pulling away from him, but feeling her heart get the boost of energy that she needed.
Seeing Jack alive and well, even though hurt, was enough for her at that moment.
“What happened anyway?” she wanted to know. “How did Gwen attack you?”
“She came from a hidden door behind me. When I saw her, I tried to attack, but she was faster.” Jack explained.
So Lance was right, there was a secret passage to the hidden room.
“And what about you? Were you and Lance able to… you know…”
Violet nodded with a sad smile.
Even though it was a successful result, she didn’t feel like celebrating.
“Where is he? And Gwen?” Jack asked.
“Lance took her upstairs to summon an urgent meeting. Something about the leadership of the pack. I don’t know what is going on though. I didn’t leave since I found you.”
Jack smiled softly at her.
“I love you.” he whispered, placing a gentle kiss on her lips. “But you already know that, right?”
Violet reciprocated with another kiss.
“I do. But I don’t mind being reminded sometimes.”
Jack got on his feet and stretched his hand to help Violet do the same.
As they walked back to the main hall, Violet could already feel the change in the atmosphere.
They got to where the battle was taking place, but didn’t find anyone there anymore.
The palace was a mess, a lot of things broken on the floor, but no sign of anyone, not even the ones who got hurt and knocked out.
She assumed they had been taken to the hospital, but where was everyone else?
“Violet.” a voice called her.
It was Jeffrey, Lance’s friend who had helped them get to the hidden room.
“Jeffrey! What happened? Where is everyone?”
“Lance and Gwen went to the council’s room for a meeting. I don’t know how long it will take though. I think you guys should rest. If you want, you can go to your room. It’s the same as when you left.”
Violet felt like she had been slapped.
“My room… is still the same?”
She wasn’t expecting that. She didn’t think about it before, but she assumed that Gwen would have changed it into a guest room, at the least.
Jeffrey nodded.
“I don’t think it’s wise for us to stay here.” Jack pointed out. “We are still the enemies, right?”
“I don’t think you are. If I can risk saying, you guys will be considered heroes from now on inside the Diamond Pack. Most of the members in the palace and outside of it were tired of this tyrannical government. We just wanted peace.” Jeffrey explained.
“But what about Gwen? She’s still the Alpha though.” Violet commented.
“Yeah, but after this meeting, I’m guessing she won’t be anymore.”
And Jeffrey was right, because as soon as Violet decided to finally go to her room with Jack and take some rest, Lance showed up by the other side of the hall, with a proud but scared expression on his face.
“Lance?” she yelled from the other side. “Is everything okay? What happened?”
He lifted his eyes to stare at her and Jack.
“They chose me to be the Alpha from the Diamond Pack.”
