The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 97
Violet wasn’t sure if she had listened correctly.
“Exiled?” she repeated.
Lance nodded, but asked her and Jack to follow him to an empty room next to his office.
“I didn’t want anyone to listen to this yet. I still didn’t make the official announcement to the pack. I also need to go throw the coronation ceremony first, so…” Lance started closing the door. “I talked to the council and they wanted Gwen to rot in jail. Some of them even wanted her to be killed for her treason, since she teamed up and even colluded with a fugitive.”
Violet felt a shivering in her spine.
“But I suggested that she would be exiled from the Crescent instead, as a form of punishment for what she did. I tried to use the argument that she might had felt coerced to do all of that since Arden was her father, and she was never prepared to be an Alpha after all.”
“And they accepted just like that?” Violet asked.
“Of course not. It took me a while to convince them that she doesn’t offer us any threat. They agreed to let her be exiled in a neighbor continent, as long as she doesn’t put her feet here anymore.”
“Wow… I never saw that coming.” Violet said.
“Well, it is better than death.” Jack pointed out.
Lance nodded.
“And how are you feeling about being the new Alpha from the Diamond Pack?” she continued the conversation.
“Well, I must admit that it’s scary, but if Arden did one good thing in his life was to prepare me for this position. Of course I’ll have to change a lot of things, since him and I didn’t see eye to eye in pretty much everything, especially in the way he managed the problems.”
“It seems that you have all figured out already.” Jack uttered with a smile.
“I’ve always wanted to change a lot of things here, but never had the opportunity. Starting with some stupid laws, like forbidding the members to marry their mates.” Lance raised his brows and looked at Violet with a smirk.
“That I couldn’t agree more.” Jack interfered. “It sounds stupid, and I can’t even imagine why someone would agree to that.”
Violet laughed, remembering the first time she told Jack about that.
He looked extremely puzzled and incredulous then, like that was something from another universe.
“I see how you can benefit from this new law.” she teased. “By the way, have you already reached out to Lucinda?”
Lance cleaned his throat, trying to bring back his leader pose.
Violet thought it was cute to see him ignoring his emotions in front of them.
“I asked her to meet me here when she felt like it.” he explained. “I just don’t know if she’ll show up.”
“Of course she will. You were the one avoiding her all this time.” Violet scolded him.
“What? Says who?” Lance asked, sounding very offended.
“She told me that you were avoiding her, like you could forget about the bond by doing that.”
Lance looked at her speechless.
“Yeah, I forgot to tell you, but Lucinda is worst than me. Don’t think she will be the type of woman that will obey you. Even if you’re her mate.” Violet concluded with a smile.
If Lance wanted to say something, she didn’t know, but he seemed to have forgotten how to pronounce words all of a sudden.
“Welcome to the club, man.” Jack teased him.
“Anyway, what are you planning to do? Ask her to marry you or what?” Violet continued.
Lance shrugged his shoulders.
“I really don’t know what to expect.” he murmured. “I think we’ll see, right?”
Deep down Violet knew that, when Lance and Lucinda finally got together, which she was certain that would happen pretty soon, Lucinda should move to the palace to be with him.
But at the same time, Violet didn’t know how Lucinda would react to that, having to leave the Rebels behind. They were her family after all, so she would have to adjust her entire life to be with Lance.
Would she do it?
“By the way, I wanted to talk some business with you.” Jack said by her side, taking Violet out of her thoughts.
But he was talking to Lance, who seemed just as interested and curious as her.
“I mentioned to Violet yesterday that I wanted to extend to you and the Diamond Pack a peace offer. The Rebels have allies in all over the Crescent. The Diamond Pack is one of the few exceptions right now.” Jack explained.
Lance still looked surprised.
“I know you have a lot on your mind now, but I can see that you’re willing to change the way things work here, so I feel that we could be great allies. I condemned the way Arden led your people, that’s why we never got along. But I know it’s going to be different with you. So, what do you say?” Jack raised his brows waiting for an answer.
Lance cleaned his throat again and stretched his hand to him.
“I’ll be glad to become your ally, Jack. And you can bet things here will be entirely different.” Lance smiled.
“I assume you’ll also put down that wall again, right?” Violet asked.
“It has already been done. They are putting it down as we speak.”
Violet could feel fireworks exploding inside her now.
Everything would be finally okay.
A knock on the door took them out of their little world.
“Come in.” Lance uttered.
An old man put his head inside the room just enough to be recognized by his leader.
“Lance, there’s a woman here who wants to talk to you. She said her name is Lucinda.” the man said.
Violet widened her smile to the size of her face, as Lance nodded to him.
“Well, guess this is it. Wish me luck.” he said before leaving the room.
“Yeah, guess we’ll be having another wedding soon.” Jack said getting closer to Violet and hugging her from behind.
“Yeah? Who said we are having one in the first place?” Violet teased him, feeling his arms tighten around her.
“You know, if someone makes me a promise, it’s basically impossible that it will be broken.” Jack whispered in her ear, making her shiver.. “You’re stuck with me forever, whether you want it or not.”
