The Apocalyptic Mother And Her Struggles - Volume 1 Chapter 23 23. Safety
6hrs left…
Everyone in the commanding room was concentrated on the struggles of the family.
Emma’s swore, if this were some kind of action movie, they would be the main actors as her heart was anxious by each step they made.
The first find already started hitting the trees. Making the environment that was already dark even gloomier.
From the other side, the car fought trough uneven roads and bushes. Luckily it was a good jeep and such roads were no big deal.
But still, both sides made them hold their breaths whole time.
”Mr. Fin. They are about a mile away from you to the right. I think they strolled way too much to the left when they descended. Try turning bit around I see the old road ahead of you.”
”I know that road. That was before the road to the mines. I know the way up there.”
Emma instructed him with a calm voice but stood there shaking with her hands in fist white from all the pressure.
A small hand touched her and when she turned her head down and saw a pair of eyes staring at her with the care she laughed lightly. ”Hungry?”
”Do you think those three anxious people would let me be hungry? They fed me, played with me and brought me here without letting anyone even close to me. What kind of order did you make that they rose their weapons and were getting angry when people tried to enter the same escalator?”
Emma looked at the tree women that just shrugged. ”We actually planned to confine her on that level but she has some sort of personality so we couldn’t help it. It was her wish to see you. If you were on the first level we wouldn’t have done that but as we knew you were on commanding deck we thought she is safe here.”
Sandra spoke while the other two simultaneously nodded.
Aisa just shrugged and turned her eyes towards Emma. ”I have no idea what they are talking about.”
Emma knocked lightly her head. ”That innocent expression doesn’t work on me.”
”Mom… ugh…” Aisa looked at her mother spitefully and when she saw her looking bit nervous she just nodded and sat down on chair looking at the projection on the screen.
Emma’s eyes just saw the car coming near to the cross-section where they could see each other.
”Mr. Fin press the horn. They should be able to hear you.”
As soon he heard that he stopped and opened the door as well as his wife. As they couldn’t hear what is going on they could see that his wife and he were calling while pressing the horn.
On the other side, the family stopped for second and then with new energy changed the path running towards Mr. and miss Fin.
Soon they hit on the road and saw the two older people waving at them and getting in the car. They turned the car and at that moment they had time to arrive.
Emma sighed in relief but then her face became grave. ”Mr. Fin…”
”Yes Miss Thomspon.”
”The rain is about to fall. My people scanned the best possibilities for you all to go back and if heavy rain falls you will be stuck in the mud on the same way back. The best idea would be if you take a detour. It will be longer by half an hour but safer by 50-60 %”
”In understand, please guide me.”
From all sides, she got the informations and bit by bit they were guided to the safe road. But then a gap appeared in front of them.
Mr. Fni didn’t even flinch when he speeds up and his jeep just humped over the gap leaving Emma and her crew speechless.
Soon cheers could be heard because now they are on the concrete road and could drive faster.
”Mr. Fin I still hope you and your wife would change your idea of staying outside. Think this way. If you turn into a zombie you would try to come here and eat those children. Do you really wish to become something like that.”
She knew that these two people were deeply religious and would not commit direct suicide.
So the last option was to make them feel as murderers. And it worked.
”When you put it that way… Is it really true that the people changed that way?”
”Yes. Or I wouldn’t try to become Noah and build this Arc.” This was the last hit at Mr. Fin so she smiled brightly while her daughter was holding her head. Mother…
Mario just shook his head as he saw Emma smiling victoriously.
When she saw everyone staring she smiled sheepishly. ”It is somehow similar…”
They had to admit to her weird logic. This place seemed somehow like the last sanctuary to the flood of the dead.
Mario tapped her back. ”I just got message from Sean. They are there waiting.”
The moment she got that information she saw the first rain hitting the car. Not only that it was not small rain it was the pouring rain that was usually hard to drive in.
But he handled it like a pro. She wondered. This man, what did he do before living in the forest?
An hour later they were already near the farm.
The helicopter crew got the information of their incoming so they started the machine already.
As soon they jumped out of the car they rushed to them and were already wet until the skin only from these few steps.
”Will you be able to fly?” Mario was worried about his people just as much for those they’re about to save.
”It will be hard. I will do my best sir. The wind is making me worried.”
”Fly first straight for ten minutes to avoid storm wind from that side and then drive westwards for twenty minutes. then turn sharp to us and we will guide you as you will be completely blind otherwise.”
”I understand.”
The helicopter took off and started swinging in wind making everyone halt their breaths.
They flew they were told and when they changed on end direction to fly back to the base, the wind and rain literally didn’t give them any good sight.
The helicopter swinge wildly in wind and looked like it will break any second.
Emma was happy because she bought the newest kinds of military helicopters that are a bit more resistant to the outside weather.
With a good pilot, it was hard to drive but not impossible.
The moment they landed everyone felt their heart felt easy and they cheered and hugged as their own family members arrived.
Actually the whole action was seen by everyone in the safety. It was Jacks’ idea to show the people her care and the way she tries to help everyone.
As soon they entered the city region the people cheered and greeted the family that didn’t know what was going on until they told them
”You mean she was really there the whole time.”
One young man stepped in front Mr. and Miss fin and smiled.
”Our elder Angus saw that you are God-loving people so he asked you to join our community if you don’t mind us.”
The Amish could hear them praying while they drove the car. They would stop praying only when they answered to Miss Thompson. It made them feel like soul mates so they invited them to the seventh level. After all, there was enough space for everyone.
”Yes. We would gladly accept.” They were happy about the invite. Same kind of minds the same kind of people. ”But it would be wrong if we do.”
The young Amish and everyone surrounding was stunned. ”We were soldiers for many years and we hoped trough prayers to keep our violent temper out this body. But now God is looking not only for thos that pray. He needs warriors, purgers and people of stone heart. People like us.”
Young Amish didn’t know what to say so he just nodded. ”I will tell your message to our Elder.”
Then he turned and left while Mr. and Ms. Fin looked at arriving Emma Thompson that had a file in her hands.
”You found out?” He looked at her while she smiled at him.
”Of course. I am a computer freak.”
He held his head and laughed. ”When I was younger I always made jokes about those smart kids. But now the smart kid is saving my nutty ass. So what is your plan?”
She moved her eyes from him to his wife and smile became wider. ”I need both of you, but especially you…ms. Fin.”
