The Ascension Of Astrid - Chapter 9 Mithril Golem
The way to this room made both Astrid and Khaled tune in when they were in battle mode. Both now had an understanding of how it was more or less the strength of each and how they could use it in their favor.
Both were divided, Astrid went to the left while Khaled went to the right, giving no chance for the golem to attack first, each went to a side while encircling target.
Red lightning flashed from Khaled’s paws as he raced toward the golem, his powerful claws unlocked, and he attacked leaving behind only six red stripes of lightning in his attack.
On the other hand as Astrid ran toward the golem, several golden magic circles followed behind her, she chanted the spells in quick succession, not giving any idea of what was coming from her lips.
Theoretically as a witch, Astrid should have been at a disadvantage in battles where she had no one to defend her back. But it was different for her, Astrid was trained from an early age to be a weapon and so it would not make sense if a weapon was afraid of death, or needed others to protect it.
Astrid’s series of spells fell in rapid succession, leaving a path of dust and destruction in its path, Astrid jumped and stood beside Khaled and when the dust subsided they were shocked to realize that they barely scratched the golem.
The golem was ready to strike and they could not be surprised for long. “Changes of plans, Khaled.” Astrid started. “This is a mithril golem, they are extremely resistant to magical and physical attacks.”
Khaled could not respond before the two had to dodge the golem attacks. The golem looked at the place where they were and holding a large ax threw it at them, no matter how seeming the golem was extremely fast and their physical attack was followed by magical attacks.
“What do we do then !?” Khaled yelled backward from the attacks they were receiving. His sense of danger warned him that if he got a frontal attack he could be really hurt.
“Golens have a mana core, they can stay in the golem’s head or chest. If we can find the weak spot and destroy it we could defeat this thing.” Astrid said, as she turned away from the splinters of a magical attack. She took the cue to create a stone wall between her and one of the attacks. “But talking is easier than doing it.”
As Astrid held the charge of spells cast on her, Khaled managed to attack behind the golem, firing a ball of lightning similar to the attack on the Blood Bear. The attack hit the golem’s shoulder making a slight crack in the hard shell of mithril.
In a quick realization, Astrid realized that there was a way to defeat that thing, and if direct attacks made no sense against him. So indirect attacks could work.
The golem then turned his attention to Khaled and managed to punch the Fenrir by sending him flying backwards. Astrid took the lead in the attacks. Choosing a spell that wrapped the golem’s entire body with stones and then wrapped the ball around with fire. Like setting up an oven with the golem inside.
The stones began to melt and appeared magna-like, before the golem freed himself from his temporary prison with a crash. Khaled had already gotten up and was ready to attack as well, when Astrid turned to him. “Khaled, I’ll cool his body, it can get brittle for a while. This is the best time for an attack.”
Astrid then concentrated on cooling the body of the golem. The cast spell then caused a layer of ice to cover the golem’s body immediately cooling down and was soon followed by an attack by Khaled. The damage done this time was much greater than the previous one and a distinct crack appeared on the golem’s chest, revealing a slight glow that belonged to his mana core.
Astrid and Khaled looked at each other, seeing that the plan was starting to work, and concentrated on being able to repeat this process a few more times.
The level of mana and the fatigue began to reach Astrid and Khaled after some time. The battle was dragging on, and the wounds began to appear on both of them. But the golem’s shell was about to break. Astrid was concentrating on the giant oven she once again created around the golem and a determined look passed over Khaled’s face.
“Khaled we only have this chance, my mana is running out, so when I cool the golem attack with all you have.”
“Leave it to me!”
Once again the golem broke his prison of fire and lava, sending the magna hot in all directions and ran towards Astrid, as she cast another freezing spell at him.
Khaled stood in front of Astrid, and gathered all his power in that last attack by throwing a ball of rays mixed with red tones that was finally able to break through both sides of the golem’s shell, destroying the mana core in the process.
A tense silence followed Khaled’s last attack and they watched expectantly as the pieces of the golem’s shell began to fall one by one. Astrid’s sigh of relief and fatigue was followed by Khaled’s howl of triumph as the battle finally came to an end.
