- Chapter 932 Tranquil Reverie
“It’s true that it has nothing to do with her or the others. It was a clue my grandparents left behind for me.” Yao Tang considered it for a moment and decided to tell Cheng Yan everything about the old couple. “I was an idiot. I didn’t realize it was a test, so I was unable to wake up for so long.”
She opened her left palm to reveal a piece of Jade emitting a faint, green glow.
“I brought this with me from my dream. Doesn’t it look magical?” Yao Tang gazed softly at the bauble.
“Indeed.” Cheng Yan plucked it from her palm. It felt warm to the touch. It was definitely no ordinary jade. He eyed it carefully, and a name popped up in his head.
He placed it back in Yao Tang’s hand.
“Do you know what kind of jade this is?”
She shook her head.
“Do you still remember the Sleeping Jade that has been passed down in our Cheng family?”
Yao Tang nodded emphatically. So this was related to the valuable heirloom of his elders.
“Well, the one in our possession is an artificial jade that was developed by the family. It has properties that help with sleep and concentration. The idea came from my grandmother.
“She said that when she was young, she had a friend who loved jade and had a unique talent for raising them. The jade pieces she grew had different properties with various effects. Among them was a jade piece called Tranquil Reverie.
“At the time, my grandmother was under great pressure and often suffered from insomnia. Her friend gave her this jade piece, and grandma said that she slept well whenever she went to bed wearing it. Over time, however, she decided that she didn’t want to rely on such things to sleep, so she tried to return it.
“But when she met up with her friend, she was told to just keep it. Her friend said that not only can it help people sleep, but it can also incite hallucinations. That second effect was too weak, though, so she assured my grandmother that it wouldn’t cause any harm.”
Cheng Yan looked Yao Tang in the eye and added, “I think that my grandmother’s friend is none other than your grandmother, and this jade piece is the real Tranquil Reverie.”
Yao Tang felt unexpectedly delighted to hear this. There was a very real possibility that their grandmothers had been friends.
After so many years of having no clue about her family, she finally caught a break. And it was right beside her all along!
“Once we leave this place, I will take you to meet Grandma. You should be able to learn more about your grandparents from her.” Cheng Yan glanced at the jade piece, his brows furrowed. “But I don’t think you should keep wearing that. You might fall into an illusion again.”
Although Yao Tang was awake, he was still worried. She had been asleep for over a month. For him, the jade piece was no different from a ticking time bomb, and he refused to let it threaten Yao Tang a second time.
“It’s fine, it won’t hurt me. It was given to me by Grandma, after all. She told me that this is her favorite piece, and that I can always reach out to it, and it will lead me through whatever illusion I may be in. I don’t think it’s as simple as they made it out to be.”
As if knowing that it had just been praised, the Tranquil Reverie grew warmer and flickered in her hand.
Seeing that she seemed to have made up her mind on her own plans, Cheng Yan didn’t say anything more.
“Shall we go and meet the Xiao and Yu families?” Yao Tang suggested as she tucked the jade away.
Cheng Yan could only sigh helplessly.
“You’ve been asleep for so long, aren’t you hungry?”
Right on cue, a loud growl came from her belly.
Cheng Yan chuckled again and stroked her head with unabashed affection.
“Wait here, I’ll go get you something to eat.”
As soon as he left the room, Meng Yang and the girls rushed back in.
“Sister Tang, are you feeling okay?”
“You were in a coma for so many days, we were so scared!”
They chattered on and on until Yao Tang’s temples began to throb.
They were so eager and frantic that she couldn’t even keep up with the conversation.
Fortunately, Cheng Yan returned shortly, with a tray of light but delicious dishes.
The trio scampered back into the background as if on instinct. They were both amazed and horrified at seeing the great Crown Prince of the Cheng family serve Yao Tang without an ounce of hesitation.
Meanwhile, the news of Yao Tang’s awakening quickly traveled over to the Xiao and Yu families.
When the head of the Yu clan, Yu Shu heard this, he immediately sought out his counterpart in the Xiao clan, Xiao Biao.
“Hey, Old Man Xiao! Since the little girl has woken up, let’s call Ah Chen and Xiao Bing back. Those two rascals have committed far too many crimes.”
Xiao Biao rolled his eyes at the other man. It was his fault for spoiling his grandson, Yu Chen, too much.
“Keep pampering Yu Chen, and he will only cause even more trouble in the future!”
“Oh, please. The girl has suffered too much already. I’m sure my grandson won’t forget about it any time soon.”
Xiao Biao harrumphed as he led the way to the residence where Yao Tang and the others stayed. “We’ll see about that!”
“You old fool!” Yu Shu muttered behind him. “Stop being so pretentious!”
When the old men arrived at the residence, the young ones were just about to set out to find them, too.
