The Billionaire’s Song - Chapter 11 Pain
I woke up in excruciating pain. My body felt like it didn’t belong to me. Every single inch was throbbing with pain. My head was pounding like a hammer and felt like it was about to explode.I couldn’t remember where I was. I tried to open my eyes but the effort was just too much so I gave up. I could hear monitors beeping in the background so I deduced that I was inthe hospital. Then I heard someone walk to my bed and gently liftedmy hand to their lips. I blinked still unable to open my eyes.
“Maya. Babe..Can you hear me,” Kyle asked tentatively, stroking my hand.
“Y-yes,” I managed to croak. It was painful to open my eyes, even briefly-the light was blinding me and causing me more pain.
“Too answer all your questions-” he paused and smiled, “I booked you into a private medical facility to keep you away from the media and to keep you safe. I’ve checked on Rita and Richard they are recovering quite well. Rita’s parents and your entourage have arrived-but I sent them all away. You have been out for more than three days and I’m glad to see you’re awake,” he grinned.”I need to go and get the doctor, okay?” He said softly, “I’ll be right back okay?” he said brushing his other hand against my cheek.
“Don’t go,” I whispered weakly, clinging onto his hand, “Don’t-leave me-please,” I pleaded as tears slowly escaped my eyelids.I was an emotional wreck and my body was in unbearable pain, that shot through me.
“Okay-Okay love.. Don’t-don’t cry okay?”He said wiping away my tears , “I’m right here baby” Kyle said his voice breaking. He dashed away the tears from his eyes so that I wouldn’t see him cry. “Are you in a lot pain?” he asked and I nodded weakly.
He found the emergency button and used that to summon the doctor instead, since I was clinging onto him like my life depended on it.The nurses came rushing in and started checking my vitals. The doctor hot on their heels.
“Hey Dr Cohen,” Kyle said, “Sorry for pressing the emergency button but she just woke up and she wouldn’t let me leave,” he said gesturing at our interlocked hands.
“That’s quite alright Mr Kinley,” Dr Cohen reassured him, “unfortunately , I will need you to step outside while I examine her,” he indicated to the door.
Kyle tried to pry his hand out of my grip and I continued to hold on not wanting to let go. “Stay. Please,” I held Kyle’s hand tightly. Why was I being so clingy? I must be extremely traumatized.
“I suppose we will have to permit it. You’re used to bathing her after all so..” Dr Cohen sighed, “If you can just step back a bit?” he asked Kyle politely.
He is used to what?
My body was black and blue all over. It looked like a painting that went wrong. Dr Cohen said I had a few broken ribs and a concussion. My blood pressure was up and it was cause for concern. He was very gentle during the examination but I cried out in pain every time he probed my body.Kyle cringed, his face was twisting anguish. Clearly it hurt him to see me like this. He looked so helpless standing there. He was trying very hard to be strong but he’s glassy eyes were betraying him.
After the doctor completed the examination, he asked the nurse to give me more medication because the pain was literally killing me.The medication caused me to be drowsy so before I knocked out I smiled weakly at Kyle and the way he looked at me made my already painful stomach muscles tense. He leaned over and kissed my forehead before I fell asleep.
“I appreciate you,” I managed to whisper before the darkness sucked me into oblivion.
************
When I regained consciousness,Andrew was seated by my bedside. A worried look on his face.
“Hey, Andrew,” I smiled weakly.
“Miss Walsh! You’re alive..I mean you’re up,” he blurted out.
“Sorry to disappoint you Andrew,” I joked.
“Emma and I are taking care of everything work related so no need to worry,” he said.”Also Mr Durand just jetted in,” he added hastily.
“Pierre? He’s here? Why?” I asked.Jean-Pierre Durand was one of my very persistent, on and off potential suitors. He was a filthy rich billionaire. Rumor had it he was about to hit the trillion mark anytime soon. His wealth was passed down from generation to generation. His family business specialized in civil engineering and property development. He was an architect byprofession. He was dashingly handsome of course and was the S in sexy. He was still a much sort after bachelor.Fortunately, or unfortunately he had set his sights on yours truly.
“He heard about your incident..it was all over the news..so he’s here,” Andrew said nervously, “Do you want to see him or..?”
“Let him come,” I sighed, “He’s come all this way after all,”
“Okay..but Kyle is here as well..?” He said hesitantly.
“Let JP come through first,” I answered Andrew’s unasked question.
“I don’t think so,” Kyle shook his head, as he barged into my room, “I was here first,”
“Hey,” I said startled. Andrew looked at me confused.
“It’s okay Andrew, I will handle it. You can leave now,” I responded.
Kyle came over and held my hand protectively as he leaned over and kissed me softly.
“Feeling any better babe?” He asked as he stared into my eyes.
“A bit,” I smiled.
“The police would like to get your statement. You’re up for it?” He asked.
“No, I ca-n’t,” I shook my head, “I can’t Kyle,” I cried.I couldn’t stand reliving the trauma all over again. I just wasn’t up for it.
“Okay, I understand. I will just send them away and you can speak to them when you’re ready. Sounds good?” He smiled trying to calm my nerves.
I nodded silently. “I’ll be right back,” He said as he kissed my hand swollen hand.
He was about to leave when Jean-Pierre walked through the door.
The good times just kept rolling in.
