The Billionaire’s Song - Chapter 20 Fight or Fligh
“Michael, I need your help with something. If you don’t mind?” James said tactfully as he grabbed Michael’s arm and rushed down the passage.
“Yeah sure, lead the way,” Michael smiled knowingly.
Kyle and I stood in awkward silence. His hands were in his back pockets and he was studying the floor quite intensely. He looked gorgeous as usual, like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine. He seemed to look better every-time I sawhim. Being this close to him gave me butterflies and made my heat race. I made a stab at making conversation, to break the silence.
“Can we talk for a minute?” I asked, indicating to my dressing room. He just nodded and followed me into the room. We sat on a couch, very far apart from each other.
“You cut you hair?” Well at least he noticed.
“Yeah, I needed a change.” I said. He looked at me for a split second and then away turned quickly.
“So, how have you been?” I asked nervously, biting my bottom lip.
“As well as can be expected,” he replied flatly.
“Kyle, I’m really sorry,” I tried to apologise.
“Well sorry won’t cut it this time Maya,” his voice was cold.
“I know-I know but I just wanted to apologize,” I twisted my hands on my lap.
“I almost died. In Capetown-I almost didn’t make it-and you were there. You were with me every step of the way. Somehow, being the fool that I am-somehow, I thought you and I connected on a deeper level and we were on the same page. After everything we went through, the good and the bad-somehow I thought that if you and I survived the storms then we could overcome anything babe.” He stared intensely at me, the pain in his eyes unmistakable but he had called me babe-maybe he had forgiven me?
“But I was wrong. You still couldn’t decide whether you wanted me or some stuck-up Frenchman. I can’t compete for your affection Maya-I wont,” he said with so much emotion. Guess he hadn’t forgiven me then.
“But you don’t have to because I’m done with JP for good. ” I replied. “I know I messed up. I shouldn’t have kissed JP but I did it because I needed to know-that I didn’t have any feelings for him anymore. I was so confused and I had to prove to myself beyond doubt-that you are the one that I want to be with -that- that’s why I did it,” I rambled.
“Are you listening to yourself right now? What you’re saying doesn’t even make sense Maya!” Kyle burst out. “You kissed someone else so that you can know whether you care about me or not?? That’s a load of crap!” He spat, he’s brown eyes blazing with amber flecks.
“But-but it’s true!” I tried to reason with him.
“Why should I believe you, huh? That is such a lame excuse-you’re going to have to do better than that. Give me one good reason why I should believe you anyway? You seem strung up on that guy and I can’t seem to understand why you can’t seem to let him go,”he was agitated and kept running his fingers through his already unruly hair.
“I thought you said you would fight for me Kyle? That’s what you told me. You said you would fight for me and now you’re just walking away?!” I argued vehemently, making him remember what he said to me when I was in hospital.
“Babe do you even want me to fight for you huh? How do I even fight for someone who doesn’t even know what she wants?! ” He retorted angrily.
“I was confused okay? I already explained to you why I kissed him and I have apologized countless times. What more do you want from me?!” I said out loud.
“You know what Maya?! Go and be with your Frenchman. He doesn’t seem to have a problem getting scraps of you but I do. I told you before-it’s all or nothing Maya. I won’t have you any other way,” he said as he stood up and made his way to the door. He paused as he put his hand on the door handle.
“If ever you decide what you want you know where to find me-but for now I have concert that requires my undivided attention. See you around,” he said before walking out.
