The Billionaire’s Song - Chapter 28 Home
Dr Williams was waiting for us at the back entrance, a stretcher was already in tow and he wheeled Maya straight to a private ward. He asked the nurses to put her on a drip and asked me to give him more details about where I found Maya and how long she was missing and so on.
“I have to run some test immediately to see how much damage her body has suffered. I can’t give a diagnosis right now-but it’s not looking good- but we will do everything we can to save her.” He said as her put his hand on my shoulder and led me out of the room.
“Please do your best Doc! She’s everything to me-I just can’t lose her.” I pleaded.
“I’ll do my best,” he replied, “You can take a seat in the waiting room and I’ll update you once I get the test results.”
“Okay-I’ll do that-just give me an update as soon as you can-please?” I was so anxious.
“Kyle-I got this okay?” Dr William said gently, “Why don’t I get a nurse to find you an empty bed and you lie down for a while? You look like the walking dead man. Go and rest. Doctor’s orders.” he commanded.
I paced around the waiting room, anxiety building up inside me. I had my personal guards posted outside Maya’s room and made sure there was back up in case something else happened.I hand picked them and made sure a thorough background check was done on all my staff.I slipped my phone out of my pocket and called Rita.
“Hie Ky,” she answered after the first ring.
“Hey RiRi-I’m at the hospital-it’s Maya-” I heard a loud thud and the phone went dead.
I tried her number again and it went straight to voice mail. I decided to call James and he answered after a while.
“Hey-can’t talk right now man-Rita was on the phone and then she passed out,” James said out of breath.
“Well about that..it was me,” I said.
“What did you say to her cos she just fainted?” James was worried.
“I found Maya -but she’s not-look I’m at the hospital-remember -the one where I was?” I fumbled with my words.
“We will be right over-say no more.” James said quickly and hung up.
After that I called the police and told the investigating officer Sean Mullins, that I had found Maya. He told me that he was on his way and that they had come across new information that might help solve the case.
I went over to the vending machine and got myself a Coke anddrank it all in three gulps. I felt so tired and drained, like I was operating on auto-pilot.My body was slowly shutting down and Dr Williams was probably right, I could get some rest while I waited for the test results. I looked around for an empty bed, made myself comfortable and I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow.

MAYA’S POV
I was probably hallucinating again but I could have sworn that Kyle found me. I had a dream where I saw him squeezing himself through a crevice in the rocks. He broke the shackles and he cradled me in his arms as he cried. I could feel the warmth of his tears raining down on my face. I wanted to lift up my hand and wipe away his tears and tell him not to cry, but I couldn’t move-I was paralyzed somehow.
I couldn’t talk either-as much as I tried.Even after he had removed that ghastly gag form my mouth. This was a really bad dream-what was happening-I had to say something otherwise Kyle would leave and I would be stuck here forever. All I could do was blink and that was as far as it went.
Kyle was shaking me gently as his tears continued to beat onto my face. My throat was burning and my tonguecleaved onto the roof of my mouth. I tried to move my hand but it felt like lifting lead.
Only it wasn’t a dream because I was lying on a hospital bed with tubes sticking out of me. I could hear the constant beep of the monitor and the sound of nurses shuffling in and out of the room.
I don’t quite recall how I got here but it was so warm and I felt safe. My throat still hurt and I couldn’t open my eyes, it felt likeheavy weight were placed over my eyelids. My chest was on fire and I was wheezing. My body was alternating between hot and cold and I was visibly shaking like I had a fever or something.I could move my fingers though and that was progress.
“Maya- If you can hear me squeeze my hand-if you can,” a distant voice that sounded like Dr Williams said.
I put pressure on his hand and he stood up.
“I’m going to check your vitals okay?” He said gently, “I hope it’s not going to hurt much.”
He examined me from head to toe with the held of a nurse. He walked over to the foot of the bed and started flipping through charts. I heard him walk over to the bedside again.
“Maya- If you can hear me then squeeze my hand again,” he repeated and I complied.
“You have a case of acute broncho-pneumonia-it’s not as bad as it sounds. Fortunately, we managed to catch it on time-well thanks to your Knight in Shining Armour. If Kyle hadn’t found you when he did then it would have been too late.” He stated bluntly.
So I wasn’t dreaming. Kyle did rescue me.
“Then there’s the issue of your paralysis-” He paused briefly, “I just think it’s temporary. You should get the feeling back in your body in no time. It’s probably the long exposure to the cold and being.. chained.. for an extended period of time-that must have caused it,” he said.
“Your eyesare slightly swollen but the antibiotics should do the trick and you’ll be able to open your beautiful eyes in a day or two,” he rubbed my hand gently.
“I think that’s all I can tell you for now but if anything else comes up then I’ll update you as we go along,” he continued, “but for now I need to get a very anxious Kyle and bring him here to come and see you. I think he is losing his mind and he will be glad you’re awake.” He laughed softly.
“I’ll be right back.” I heard him walk out of the room.
I was really anxious to see Kyle but then again it’s not like I could literally see him, since my eyes were sealed shut.
I smelt Kyle as soon as he rushed through the door and sank onto my bed .
“Maya-I’m so glad that you’re okay!” He held my hands and kissed me all over my face.
Tears of joy somehow managed to slide out of my tightly shut eyelids. Kyle kissed them all away and pulled me onto his arms.
It felt like home.
