The Billionaire’s Song - Chapter 53 Touch and Go
“Sorry to pressure you Kyle, but have you reached a decision?” Dr Powell asked.
It was four days since she had presented me with the burden of deciding on whether to terminate the pregnancy and ultimately kill my two unborn children. The other option wasto perform a C-Section, incubate them and let nature take it’s course. Maya’s blood pressure was way up and was probably causing her body to go into shock.
“Can we just wait it out? You said a week tops so we still have today and tomorrow right?” I asked hopefully.
I held onto Maya’s hand, silently willing her to get better. I wish she was in a position to make this decision for us. It was too much for me. I know she would want to give our children a fighting chance so I would hold on until the very end.
“You do understand that if we wait too long we can lose all of them?” She gave me a gentle reminder.
“I’m well aware of that. But I also know my wife and this is what she would want. So I’m going to take my chances.” I stated.
“Very well.” She said with a curt nod and retreated.
Rita and James came through in the evening and talked me into going back to the villa to reboot.I had somehow convinced them to take advantage of the situation and go sightseeing and to explore the island a bit more.
“Hie RiRi, Jamie. Did you get to enjoy the Maldives?” I asked.
“Yeah we did. It was awesome dude. We can’t thank you enough.” James said.
“Glad you had a good time.” I smiled
“But we would also like you to have a break -like go check into the Villa and sleep in the bed that you paid good money for.”James said wryly.
“Yes Ky-please go and get some rest? For an hour or two at least?” Rita placed her hand on my shoulder.
“Is this you staging an intervention?”I looked at them suspiciously.
“Yes!” They said unison.
“We will call you if anything changes-promise.” James added.
“The villa is only like five minutes away,you can come back once you’vehad proper rest.Please?” She pleaded.
“You look terrible man..like a bus ran over you. Maya would not be able to recognize you. You really need to take a break. Go and get some sleep, eat, shave and look like a normal human-being again. We’re here. You don’t have to go through this alone-we got you okay?” James and Rita circled their arms around me.
“Okay, okay.” I protested. ” I’ll go but please call me if anything happens-got it?” I pointed at both of them and left.
I walked into the villa and memories of Maya flooded my mind. It didn’t feel right being here without her. This was supposed to be our honeymoon, we were supposed to spend the happiest days of our lives here but sadness had taken over.
I went to the kitchen, took out a frozen lasagna and warmed it up in the oven. I had my meal with a glass of white wine and checked my mail on my iPad. I struggled to eat but I managed to finish most of it.I threw my plate in the sink and made my way to the bathroom. I ran my bath water, threw in some bath salts to help me relax and sank into the warm water in the Jacuzzi.
I must have dosed of because I woke up with a start when the water had turned ice cold. I was literally shivering,so Igrabbed a fluffy towel to wrap around my body and walked into the bedroom. Not bothering to get dressed, I discarded the towel, dove under the covers and fell asleep almost instantly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was morning when I awoke again.
I checked the bedside clock and it was way after 11am. I scrambled out of bed and got dressed quickly. How could I have slept for over 12 hours straight? I hadn’t slept properly for weeks and last night was the only time I got to do it. I rushed out of the house without having breakfast and ran back to the hospital. I hadn’t been working out and it was taking it’s toll. I was out of breath by the time I rushed through the hospital doors.
“Mr Kinley, how are you this morning? We missed you yesterday. You look well restedI must say.” Dr Brandt observed as we walked down the long corridor.
“Good day to to Dr.I’ll be better when you let me take my wife home.” I said with skepticism.
“Well I’m happy to inform you that may happen soon, she’s out of danger. Her blood pressure dropped significantly and it’s almost back to normal. We moved her back to her private ward ealy this morning.” He beamed.
“Really?? ” My shoulders sagged with relief.
“Yes. I was on my way to see her now, you can tag along.” He smiled as he stuffed his hands into his coat.
“So she’s awake, like fully awake? And my babies? Are they safe” I asked.
“Well it was touch and go for a while but I think they’re out of the woods.” He reassured me.
“That’s the best news I’ve heard all week! Thank you Dr.” We stood at the doorway and looked in at my wife.She was sitting up and talking to Rita and James.
“Look who made it back to the land of the living.” She said as she looked at me.
“You don’t know how we practically forced him to a time out. He was a walking zombie.” Rita laughed.
“Hie babe. I missed you.” I jumped onto the bed and gave her a lingering kiss.
“Hey stop! She still needs air.” James joked.
“I think we should give them some privacy.” Dr Brandt suggested.
“Good idea Dr.” I said as I kissed my wife again.
“We going back to the villa and then we’re going to have lunch at the underwater restaurant you recommended. We will check in with you guys much later.” Rita and James waved as they exited the room.
I cradledMaya’s head against my chest and ran my fingers through her hair. She was okay. Suddenly all was right in the world.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here-I overslept.” I turned to look at her again.
“I know you were worried but you still need to take care of yourself okay? I worry about you too.” Her eyes softened.
“Sometimes I wish I didn’t love you so much.” I kissed her forehead.
“Sometimes you say the nicest things.”She smiled as she met my gaze.
“You know I don’t mean it in a bad way babe. My love for you is just too intense that I can’t imagine my life without you. I was going crazy babe-seeing you like that..it did things to me.” I held her closely, I’m sure she could hear my heart thudding against my chest.
“I need you to do something for me?” She looked up at me and smiled her heart-stopping smile.
“Anything babe.”
“Please sing my lullaby?” She nestled against my chest and wrapped her arm around my waist as I began to sing.
When she’s O.K.
Then I’m alright
When she’s awake
I’m up all night
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters
