There was a table set up in the middle. Benzel was sitting in a chair.
“Long time no see, Sir Knight,” Benzel greeted with a confident expression on his face.
“Where’s Elisa?”
Elisa screamed when she heard Albrecht’s voice, “Albrecht!”
But she was nowhere to be seen. He heard her voice somewhere but there were many people inside the warehouse. She was probably hidden behind them.
When Benzel beckoned to someone, Elisa was dragged out roughly. One of the members was holding her from behind while pointing a dagger close to her neck. Elisa’s emerald eyes showed sadness and apprehension, as well as an emotion of being deeply touched.
“There’s no need for you to rush, sir. I’ll tell you briefly what you’re going to do. Please bring us Georg’s head and we’ll let Elisa go,” Benzel explained.
Albrecht didn’t reply; he only looked at Elisa. He also surveyed the men around him and the ten mercenaries.
“What’s your answer?”
Albrecht thought for a moment before he answered, “Alright.”
On his way out to the door, he suddenly nicked a dagger from the waist of a guild member near him. He whirled around and threw it without a preparatory stance. Then he immediately sprang down like a flash of light. Albrecht landed next to Elisa almost at the same time as the dagger pierced through the forehead of the member who had her in his hold. In the middle of this, he also happened to grab Benzel.
Everything happened so fast that the people inside the warehouse were only able to react after Albrecht landed next to Elisa. He immediately attacked the members near Elisa, hitting them indiscriminately. Then he pulled her behind him.
“Elisa! Get behind me! Stay near the wall!”
Next, he grabbed Benzel by the neck and shouted, “Don’t move! Or I’ll kill him!”
But the members and the mercenaries didn’t seem to care about Benzel’s life. When Benzel tried to shout something, Albrecht immediately snapped his neck and threw his body forward.
The people who tried to approach him were hindered by Benzel’s body. Albrecht took this opportunity to dodge the sword that one mercenary had swung in his direction and snatch it. He grabbed the mercenary by the neck and killed him with the sword.
The problem now was that the people around were all elites of the Thief Guild. They weren’t afraid of Albrecht and continued to attack. He needed to counter their attacks. If he didn’t have Elisa behind him, he could charge forward and fight back—but he couldn’t.
More members came in from the entrance as the two tried to escape.
“Kill him! Fuck!”
They lunged at him angrily. They mindlessly attacked Albrecht without caring about the death of the person next to them and got all tangled.
Ordinary people would have already been pushed down, but Albrecht pushed them all out with a monstrous force. Half a dozen people were pushed back, and ten more people behind them fell down at once.
Albrecht tried to use that temporary gap to escape but the experienced mercenaries from the distance immediately surrounded them.
“What a monster,” A mercenary muttered as if he was fed up, yet he didn’t look afraid. It was the same for the other mercenaries. The experienced mercenaries surrounded Albrecht.
Soon, all the guild members backed away from the scene and let the mercenaries confront Albrecht. If they tried to interfere, they would only get hurt and be a hindrance. This was now the domain of the experts.
Two mercenaries with shields approached Albrecht. They didn’t rush in and paid close attention to his movements.
‘Shit! Fucking shields!’
Because Albrecht’s back was close to the wall, the ten mercenaries couldn’t rush up to him at the same time because they could get tangled up. One of the shield-bearing mercenaries quickly thrust his sword forward. At the same time, the mercenary next to him also swung his axe from above.
Elisa could get hurt if Albrecht tried to dodge their attacks.
He turned around and tried to protect his vital parts from being hit. Then he aimed at the neck of the axe-wielding mercenary with the sword he held. In an instant, Albrecht and the two mercenaries were enmeshed.
The axe-wielding mercenary now had a sword stuck in his throat. While the other had managed to graze Albrecht’s ribs, his neck had already been broken before he even knew it.
The other mercenaries around quickly approached and raised their weapons.
Albrecht took the shield from the mercenary he killed and lifted it up. He used it to hit one mercenary then he swung his sword to knock out another. Yet the impact of the weapon’s force only passed through that other mercenary’s shoulder and not his head. The mercenary quickly retreated back after he realized that he hadn’t been fatally injured. A veteran indeed.
Albrecht picked up the one-handed axe from a dead mercenary. The standoff lasted for a long time after three mercenaries died.
Albrecht was bleeding and had wounds all over his body.
Elisa, who was hiding behind Albrecht’s back, felt an inexplicable emotion. She had been raised since she was a child as a first-rate prostitute, mingling with nobles and knights. None of them ever loved her.
At first, she was attracted by Albrecht’s appearance so she treated him well; however, she had never considered herself as anything more than a prostitute to him. If he got sick of her, she would swiftly leave.
She had never believed in love. The last words she had heard from Albrecht were ‘It’s nothing like that’. That was what all the men who left her used to say.
When Rutger made her a hostage, she didn’t think she was worth it. He had already left. Yet he came back.
He really did come here unarmed. Now, he was in front of her covered with blood, guarding her.
She suddenly remembered Rutger’s words.
“If the knight tries to save you, stab him with a dagger.”
Elisa laughed. She took out a dagger and said, “Albrecht, look at me.”
“Can’t you see that we’re in the middle of something now?!”
Elisa smiled as she cried, “Albrecht, I love you.”
Then she stabbed herself with the dagger.
Albrecht immediately looked back. Elisa was now dead with her eyes still open.
Huh? Didn’t I tell her to stop? No. I told her off, right?
“Shit.”
Albrecht felt like shit. He rushed to his right side like a bolt of lightning.
A mercenary responded to his tremendous speed and swung his two axes in a cross before him. Albrecht instantly raised his shield. The shield that collided with the axes absorbed all the impact and broke, making his arms numb. He swung his axe, striking the helmet and the head of the mercenary. The mercenary died but the handle of his axe broke.
Albrecht took the dead man’s axes and charged towards the men blocking the entrance. He wielded both axes as he approached swiftly. Immediately, five people were slashed miserably. Then he darted forward like a bullet and pushed the guild members down.
Their bodies blocked the approaching mercenaries outside.
He swung both axes once more and ended several people’s lives; however, the handles of the axes broke again. But the path towards the entrance was now open. He punched, kicked, and grabbed anything he could to hit anyone who caught up to him as he headed straight for the entrance.
The sun was already setting when he opened the doors and reached the exit. He saw mercenaries armed with crossbows running over from afar.
‘Elisa. You saved me.’
Albrecht quickly ran towards the opposite direction of the archers. However, probably after hearing the news, more members emerged from the alley and blocked Albrecht’s way. He hurriedly looked behind him and saw the archers approaching.
‘Ah, so this is how I die.’
Just then, a commotion behind the other members arose. The members heading towards Albrecht were suddenly hit from behind, briefly opening a gap.
“Albrecht! This way!”
It was Diego. He threw the Thunder Axe towards him. As soon as Albrecht received the Thunder Axe, he rushed towards the guild members and began killing them. Soon, a path opened.
Albrecht and Diego ran towards an alley.
“Ack!”
Diego, who was running from behind, fell down after being hit by arrows in his back and thigh. Albrecht tried to carry him on his back, but before he knew it, the archers had already approached.
“I’m fine! Just go! Hurry!”
Albrecht didn’t hesitate to protect Diego with his body. He blocked his vital points with his arm but dozens of arrows were now embedded in his body.
Albrecht sprinted towards the archers. Every time he moved his body, he felt a burning pain because of his wounds and the arrows stuck in his body.
The archers took a long time to reload so the other remaining members of the guild protected them. But Albrecht, who already had the Thunder Axe in his hand, could no longer be stopped. He cut, slashed, and killed everyone within his sight.
All the mercenaries and other members who were left in the warehouse saw this scene.
It was too late to escape now. The pain of his wounds had now invaded his whole body, making his adrenaline rise. At the same time, his anger and his determination exploded in his heart like a volcano.
This explosion burst through his throat.
“All of you—I will kill you all—!”
An incredible battle cry rang. It was loud enough for everyone in the city to hear it. The air vibrated and shook the ground. All the enemies near him staggered because of his roar.
Albrecht, who had now lost his reason, rushed towards his enemies and fought like a beast. He had already discarded his fear of death regardless of his enemies’ attacks and swept them all away.
No matter how heavily-armed the mercenaries were, and no matter how many guild members there were, they all fell miserably.
After hearing the news of Albrecht’s battle with Rutger’s forces, Georg rushed over with his own troops. He gaped at the sight before him. It was the same for Diego and everyone else.
“He’s…He’s like a mythical hero or the god of war…”
Albrecht held his axe as he turned and looked in the direction of the people. With dozens of arrows sticking out of his body, his whole body was covered with blood, and his stark blue eyes no longer seemed like they belonged to a human.
