The Birth of a Villainess - Chapter 287
Song recommendation while reading this chapter: Toxic by 2WEI (Played it myself while writing this novel XD)
At a glance, Lin Xiaofei could tell that this man’s smile was gorgeous, so much that anyone would fall for him and kneel before him, begging to just a glimpse of his smile. She knew this even before marrying and meeting Qu Xing Xu in her second life.
Before meeting the Duke in Lin Xiaofei’s body, the past Xiaofei already considered Qu Xing Xu as someone dangerously handsome for his own good. Who wanted a beautiful face when there’s always a hole for you to fall in that was created by someone? As for who that someone was, it’s either your admirer, someone obsessed with you, or someone who detests the fact that you beat them at everything.
Almost everyone in the Four Kingdoms envied the Duke of Xin. Not only because he was a level or two more handsome than nearly every man on earth, but because of his talent was that to die for. The battles he won every time he was sent to the battlefield and enemies he’s slain were enough proof that he was the most talented and strongest man alive.
But of course, because he was young and the times he was sent to war was growing fewer and fewer until there none in the current time, his legend was soon buried by young and old talent, who wished to surpass him and make a name for themselves.
And due to Qu Xing Xu’s request to leave the court and the battlefield, his legend ended at the same time when he wished to rest.
Still gazing at his beautiful face with an evil smile plastered on his lips as if mocking the dead and burning prince before them, Lin XIaofei forgot to breathe. She didn’t know if it was because he was too damningly attractive when he smiled like this or because of the truth that the dark web of fire came out of his hand.
“You…” Lin Xiaofei softly whispered as she deeply looked into his eyes.
“Hmm?” he hummed in question as if he hadn’t noticed the changes and as if he wasn’t the one who produced the black fires that burned the prince.
Lin Xiaofei didn’t say a word. Even if she wanted to say something, she simply found herself speechless and unable to utter a noise. But somehow, she realized something – something that was both frightening and awestruck worthy.
Although a hundred questions were swirling inside her thoughts, she swiped them away as she took his other hand in hers and checked on it. Her eyebrows bunched together in worry as she asked him, “Are you alright?”
Qu Xing Xu was silent.
He clearly saw her expression and saw how badly she wanted to ask him questions he wanted to avoid if someone asked him but might answer it if she was the one who asked them. When he shot the black streak of his powers, it was only a tiny amount of it that it was almost like a drop of water in a vast mass of sea; his attention was never on the prince who was currently burning; it was focused somewhere else.
He was looking at her, observing and watching her reactions. HE caught every emotion that passed through her eyes and was once again surprised to see that there was no fear that lingered in her eyes aside from awe, shock, and confusion. Were his eyes playing with him and made him see what he wanted to see rather than what he should see in reality?
Before he decided to show this ‘magic trick’ to her, Qu Xing Xu knew that Lin Xiaofei was no ordinary woman and could tell that something was wrong. He was prepared to see her looking at him in disgust and fear – the reactions he usually gets whenever he unintentionally showed his true self to others when he was young and ignorant.
Qu Xing Xu was ready to hear her scream, throw some curses at him, and call him an abomination. But he witnessed nothing of these things he listed above.
He was wrong. Oh, so wrong that he regretted thinking that Lin Xiaofei would hate him for what he was. He underestimated her.
Instead of fearing him and feeling disgusted for being with him, this woman was standing so close to him and holding his hand tenderly as if he was the one who got hurt.
No words were spoken between them, but both understood one thing. They both accepted each other for the flaws or imperfections that others may see and point out to them.
“Are you really not hurt?” Lin Xiaofei repeatedly asked him. She already saw how clean his hand was and how there was no wound in it, but she wanted to make sure that there was nothing wrong with him. After all, no matter what, this man was her husband – someone she’ll spend her whole life with.
Qu Xing Xu shook his head, but in the middle of his action, he stopped and said, “It hurts.”
Lin Xiaofei looked up and frowned. “Where does it hurt?”
“Here.” He said.
“Where?” Lin Xiaofei looked down again at his hand and tried to see where he was talking about.
Qu Xing Xu used his hand to lift her chin so she could look up to him and pointed a finger towards his c.h.e.s.t with his other hand. “Here, it hurts here.”
“And here.” He pointed upward to his lips and added, “Will you kiss it better?”
Lin Xiaofei: “…”
If they weren’t inside a prison room turned into an execution ground for Yu Fangzhu, she might consider it, and the scene might look romantic to other people’s eyes. But with the current situation they were in, it was hard for anyone to say if it were romantic or a wicked scene straight out of a horror story.
And of course, the amount of shock and dog food the other people inside the prison room had to intake because of these two love birds was enough to strike them to death.
Even the guardsman who was standing on the side was rooted in his place. His eyes couldn’t believe the image of his dark master begging for a kiss from his wife playing before his eyes. Should he tell his other brothers about this? Of course, he should!
