The Birth of a Villainess - Chapter 323
The rumbling noise continued and didn’t cease until the originally empty horizon started to darken as if a dark cloud kept growing and growing, crawling its way towards them.
At first, when the rumbling sound was first heard by the Chu empire’s army, they didn’t take notice of it and acted like they couldn’t be bothered by it. However, when the earth started to shake and tremble underneath them, they began to sweat and fear what would come.
After all, nothing was more terrifying than something you didn’t know and least expected.
“They’re here! We’re saved!”
Someone from inside the Henzhou city cried out loudly. It was a young man in a soldier’s attire. He ran on the wall and started to climb down the stairs and announce what he saw atop the wall.
The city leader, who was anxiously pacing around and fearing that the Chu army outside would tear the city down, could finally take a deep breath of relief. He slumped down to a chair and his servants attended to him, fearing that the city leader would pass on peacefully after the fortunate news and before the war could really start.
“A-are you sure that they’re really here?” Fu Hangzhu, the city leader, asked the servant who came to give the message he received from the soldiers on the wall.
After seeing the servant nod with a smile, he could finally let his heart down and hurriedly ordered to open the gates once the Zheng army was close to the gates.
Soon, the stormy hearts and troubled minds of the Henzhou people finally lightened up. However, the dark clouds of war and storm brewing between the two kingdoms have yet to be cleared.
Sitting on top of his horse, Qi Yandi looked around with a monocular in hand and in front of his left eye. He spied on what was going on ahead of them.
“The Chu empire really is ruthless. They even brought out tens of thousands of their men in front of Henzhou city. Are they perhaps planning to take down the city?” Qi Yandi laughed nervously.
“What do you think?” Ni Zixuan asked the man who was riding at the center front of their army. It was the man who led them in the war between the two empires and also their brother, Qu Xing Xu.
Qu Xing Xu shrugged: “How am I supposed to know? If I knew what the enemies were thinking, I wouldn’t be here today.”
Ni Zixuan and Qi Yandi paused stiffly. They couldn’t refute his words since it was really the truth. If Qu Xing Xu knew what the Chu empire was planning, he wouldn’t need to come over and fight them. He could have just planned their demise without lifting a hand.
“Then, when do you think we should start butt-heading them?” Jiang Sheng pushed his horse to stand beside Qu Xing Xu.
Qu Xing Xu merely glanced at him. The two looked at each other for a suffocating minute before he finally looked away coldly and solemnly said, “Tonight.”
Tonight, the Chu empire will attack. They might sneak an ambush while the Henzhou people were feeling relaxed upon seeing the Zheng empire’s army coming inside. They might even sneak in their ranks and disguise themselves to be one of their soldiers to enter the city. Or they could have already entered the city and haven’t acted out their plans because it was not the time yet.
Any scenario was not a good thing. It regressed quite a lot and became worse the more one thought of what could possibly happen once they got nearer and inside the city.
“You don’t look good. Should we take a rest?” A beautiful woman in red armor came to their side. Jiang Sheng turned to the woman and sighed in his heart, knowing that this bode trouble in the future.
“Brother Xing Xu?” The woman wasn’t ashamed that Qu Xing Xu ignored her the first time and kept on striking a conversation with him. “Now that the Chu empire has shown their true face, we should forget about being cordial to them and kill all of the soldiers in front of us.”
Her words were cold and bone-chilling. If one were to meet that woman on the street or somewhere else, they might think of her as a young lady from a well-respected noble family. They might even call her a beauty. However, the truth was that Wu Xuanyi was not a delicate beauty but actually a ruthless young lady with the heart of a general who wouldn’t show mercy to a man who had surrendered already.
Still not getting a response from the man she liked, Wu Xuanyi looked at Jiang Sheng to seek help. Jiang Sheng knew her feelings for Qu Xing Xu, and so, he should help her get into this cold-hearted man’s heart as their sworn sister.
Jiang Sheng, of course, noticed her sneaky glances and tried to pretend he didn’t see anything and looked up ahead.
Not getting what she wanted, Wu Xuanyi first turned to Qi Yandi, but the other was indifferent with her and had his back turned to her. Now, she only has Ni Zixuan.
Amongst the three, Ni Zixuan was the only one who truly listened to her. He always tried to help her get close to Qu Xing Xu. Back then, before Wu Xuanyi joined their brotherhood, Qu Xing Xu didn’t even utter a single word to her. He didn’t even glance at her.
However, after the three worked hard to make him a bit more amiable towards her and treat her like a sister, Wu Xuanyi finally saw the light inside a dark tunnel. But because Qu Xing Xu was extremely good-looking and came from a good family, she became incensed and drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
She became obsessed and her thoughts of being close to him as brother and sister changed to being lovers. Wu Xuanyi wanted him and nothing else could replace Qu Xing Xu in her heart.
Yet, just when Wu Xuanyi thought that she had gotten closer to Qu Xing Xu, and the other would consider her as his wife and life partner, she found out that he married another woman.
This news tore her heart apart!
Wu Xuanyi started to hate the woman named Lin Xiaofei and wished she would die a cruel death so that she could replace her!
