The Birth of a Villainess - Chapter 342
As the people standing outside the city leader’s house grew, a wave of uproar was set off from behind the group. Or more accurately, the loud noise came from the huge and wide city gate of Henzhou city that was supposedly barred and locked.
The first person who heard the noise was the soldier who was standing very close to the gate. He was just patrolling the area. His duty was to check if any holes were made by the Chu empire’s soldiers and inform the rest of the people inside the city of anything that could endanger everyone.
The noise he heard was a knock. A fist rapping against the iron gates of the city.
Liu Tao, the soldier’s name, was extremely shocked at the knocking sounds and looked up. He screamed at the soldier chatting with another soldier while they were on the top of the wall gate, “There’s someone outside the gate!”
The two soldiers right above him heard his words and quickly tossed away whatever interesting story they wanted to share with each other before they rushed towards the banister of the city walls.
Down and behind the closed iron gate, a group of men and a troop of horses were right outside the gate. The number was slightly lower than the forces that the Chu empire had just several meters away from the city, but it was also not a small number either. Probably around thirty to forty horses and fifty people.
“What is it?” Liu Tao asked below.
The two soldiers, Liu Wen and Hao Zhou shook their heads. They also didn’t know what was happening or where these people came from.
It was easy to assume they were from the Chu empire. However, their clothes were far from the dresses that the Chu people wore. And these people have darker skin and tattoos on their bodies.
Just as the three soldiers were about to decide what to do, a man came out of the huge carriage that was situated at the center of the unknown group.
Like everyone else, he had darker skin and a tattoo on his body. However, what was frightening was the size of his body which was extremely large and riddled with muscles. Not only that, the beard on his chin made him look a tad more rough and fearsome.
The man opened his mouth and said, “I am Nori. The Vice Head General of the Rei Empire’s army.” He then pointed towards the carriage he had just come out of and continued to speak, “Inside this carriage is my master. We would like it if you allow us entrance to your passage.”
Ever since his loud and deep voice rang outside, the number of soldiers who went to look outside increased. They were all in awe and vigilant to see what was exactly going on outside while someone was already on his way to inform the generals inside the city.
Inside the carriage, Erkin was rubbing his palms against each other as he looked outside through the veiled window of the carriage. He was laughing as he said, “Look at all those soldiers gawking at us! Is this their first time seeing someone like Nori? I wonder if their reaction will be funnier if I brought Head General Ryuu in here instead of him?”
Lin Xiaofei silently glanced at him before looking away. She really didn’t know where the outstanding student she envisioned had gone. After meeting her, Erkin, the Rei Empire’s renowned Tyrant, suddenly turned into a talkative child. He was completely the opposite of the ruthless tyrant everyone in the Rei empire’s court was scared of and respected.
“Will they open the gates though?”
Lin Xiaofei replied expressionlessly, “They will.”
“How are you so sure? Don’t you think instead of letting us enter, they would rather shoot us down with arrows? After all, an unknown group of people claiming to be from the wealthy Rei empire was outside their gate. I’m sure they’re thinking that we’re some assassins the Chu empire made up and brought over to slip in through their defenses.”
Erkin’s worry was indeed not impossible. There was a strange group of people outside the city of an almost ruined city. An army of the Chu empire was also situated several meters away from the city. Where could this group come from? And why would they enter the city out of nowhere when there was a war going on?
Although he was speaking his concerns, Erkin was sitting on the bench, extremely relaxed. Lin Xiaofei tapped her fingers on the window before saying, “Still, the gates will open.”
“Why?”
Needless to say it, Lin Xiaofei only pointed a finger towards herself. Then as if the gates were charmed by her arrogant answer, it was soon pulled open. The iron creaked and made rough noises as the soldiers inside the city huffed and gasped for air as they exerted their strengths to pull the gates open.
“It really is true. Master will never lie to me.” Erkin commented before looking ahead.
Earlier, they were just inside the city to secretly put the carts full of food and rice inside the warehouse before leaving the city without being found out by the city guards. Then, they regrouped with the Rei soldier stationed near the city and went back again. But this time, they didn’t secretly enter. They were to enter the city with great fanfare.
Thinking of it, Lin Xiaofei wanted to enter the city secretly in order to avoid attracting the attention of the Chu empire’s army. However, after she entered the city and met with her ‘person’ before meeting up with Erkin again, she suddenly changed her plans to formally enter the city under the Chu empire’s eyes.
Erkin secretly glanced at Lin Xiaofei who was tapping her fingers rhythmically against the back of her hand. It seems that something happened inside the city when she went inside and thus, she changed her plans.
During the time Erkin spent with Lin Xiaofei, he tried to read her mind but utterly failed. His master’s mind was as deep and wide as the sea that no one could understand and see through her.
However, at this moment, Erkin was sure of one thing.
His master was definitely angry about something.

Author has something to say: Sorry for the lack of updates. I tried to write but I keep on bumping against the wall and ending up having a disease called ‘Writer’s block’. So, I ended up taking a break from writing this novel. Don’t worry, I’ll try to come up with some ideas and hopefully end this novel early.
PS.. Lin Xiaofei and the foxxy Wu Xuanyi will meet next chapter.
