The Blood Of The Gatekeeper - Chapter 3 Sent Away
In the hospital, it was chaotic. Policemen searched the whole vicinity for the perpetrators and for the baby.
Daniel Abella embraced his wife and cried. “I’m sorry, I’m foolish. I’m so slow and you’re dead now because of me. Because of this blood running through my veins. Aaah.” His cries were bitter, yet he couldn’t deny his bloodline as the gatekeeper.
A bulky man tapped Daniel’s shoulder and whispered. “I’m sorry for what happened. I and Wusdaq were also in a harsh battle. We tried to come soon but … about the new guardian, he saved your daughter in time. Don’t look for her now, she’s in good hands. She’ll come back to us when her guardian’s spirit feels she’s totally safe.”
Daniel didn’t speak. He had questions needing answers or he would blow all his anger and anguish in the hospital.
Hospital’s personnel took his wife’s body to the morgue while he was questioned by a police officer. Later, he and the bulky guy sat waiting for the wife’s body to be released.
“Luwan, where’s the boy now?”
“He’s with Wusdaq and has amnesia. I’ll explain everything to you later. Lebros henchmen are still lurking. Don’t worry about more attacks now. I’m here to protect you.”
“Luwan, I need your explanation now. I’m starting to resent this bloodline of mine. Why did Lebros attack us in such a grand manner this time? He did attack us before but not this way. This seems to be planned well, keeping us away from my wife and daughter. What’s the real cause of his fierce attack?”
Luwan was silent, trying to come up with a good explanation.
Daniel continued. “Also, people heard Lebros shouted that my daughter is his bride. What did he mean by that? You’re my protector and we’ve treated you like family ever since we’ve met. Please be honest with me. What’s the real reason of Lebros’ attack this time?”
Luwan breathed deep. “Your daughter is very special, more than you know.”
Daniel looked straight into the eye of his protector. “What do you mean by more than we know? Tell me.”
“Actually, we hid this from you. I only told you one thing for we’re afraid you and your wife will panic. I told you Lebros needs her blood but it’s more than that. He needs to impregnate her and inject the blood of their child in his veins to cleanse the curse away. With his blood cleansed, you won’t be a threat to him. He can physically touch the gatekeeper’s family.”
Daniel added, “If he can touch us then he can threaten us and get a chance to enter Deracht again, and challenge King Lig for the throne.” It was said as a statement.
“Yeah,” Luwan said.
“But how could he impregnate her when he couldn’t touch her? Wusdaq said our blood is Lebros’ nemesis.”
“True, but if your daughter agrees to marry to him, the binding symbol will allow him to intercourse with her.”
“Binding symbol?” Daniel’s brow knitted.
“When Derachtus marry, we don’t need a ring or a wedding ceremony. With a simple agreement or a consented kiss of a Derachtus couple, a symbol will materialize on our ring finger. We call it the binding symbol of marriage.”
“That’s it. He wanted to abduct her and raise her and marry her.” Daniel’s eyes lit of comprehension.
“Yes, that’s his plan.” Luwan sighed, for relief that Daniel understood and for the loss.
Daniel’s anger subsided but his concern went to his missing newborn child. “Where’s my daughter?”
“We don’t know but Wusdaq said, the young guardian sent her to a safe place and well taken cared of. She will appear when the protector’s spirit saw she’s safe to come back. Let’s just wait.”
“Until when we’ll wait?” He clenched his fist, anger rose in him again. His wife died, now he had to wait to see his own daughter with an indefinite time frame?
“I hope I can calculate and tell but I really don’t know.”
Daniel raised his hand to punch Luwan but the latter solemnly continued. “This happened once in Deracht. In our history class, my teacher said, the person or thing the protector hid reappeared not more than four months. So within four months, we expect to see her. But we need to stop Lebros’ men from finding her when she reappears.”
Daniel’s arm fell on his lap, frustrated. He nodded, still mourning, but thankful that his daughter’s guardian protected her and kept her safe.
. . . . .
During the funeral, Lebros went, disguised as an old man. His men also covered the whole cemetery but found nothing. The baby didn’t resurface.
A month passed, still no sign of the baby. Daniel and David were uneasy but continued with their usual routine to prevent Lebros’ men sense anything in case the baby will appear. A letter arrived two months after. The note said, “You are invited.” After reading, the letter vanished, including Daniel.
He saw himself in a vast white space. Two steps from him was a baby in swaddling clothes sleeping soundly in a cradle. He was excited and opened the cloth covering the baby’s face. Daniel saw the mole above the lip. This mole was the first he saw the first time he cuddled his daughter. The baby has the nose, and lips of his wife. Daniel embraced the baby and cried. “My daughter, my daughter. Thank God you’re back. You’re back.” He cried for joy. He also cried for the pain that her mother won’t be able to see her grow up.
A note fell from the folded cloth. All of a sudden, a transparent Qawiun appeared. “Transfer to another place and hide her from Lebros. Be happy with her. This spirit imprint will fade after I speak.”
The apparition left but Daniel said, “Thank you, young man.”
Daniel picked and read the letter.
[Please let her keep the name Frances Kirzakt. For my son and for us.
From: Mother of the Great Protector Qawiun Kirzakt]
He held baby Frances in his embrace. “So you were sent inside Deracht. Frances, nice name. Then, I’ll call you Frances Lucy Kirzakt Abella. Lucy was your mother’s name. She died for you.” His heart wrenched, he missed his wife. His body convulsed as tears uncontrollably fell. “I love you, my daughter. I love you. You’ll be a great woman someday, like your mother.”
Daniel, the baby Frances Lucy, and Daniel’s Protector Luwan Aman were transported far in the countryside by the gateway that same time.
. . . . .
In a castle high above a mountain, Lebros was in a fit of anger. Food, plates, bowls, utensils, portraits, table, and anything he could grab he threw or smashed them to pieces. The maids and his henchmen hid to avoid untimely death. Hours after, he sat alone in the middle of the mess, breathing hard, exhausted. He waved his hand. A shadow appeared and took a knee. “Command, Master.”
“Go, attack David and Wusdaq nonstop. Kill them, or do anything to make Daniel come back soon with the child, my wife.” After speaking, the shadow crept under the ground and more shadows followed.
