The Cage Of The Past - Chapter 84
All she cares about is her feelings and emotions. She doesn’t feel bad anymore but she never thought of Han. She feels that she is a horrible and irresponsible mother.
“Miss Chen. I can understand your feelings of having to lose your child. But a successor of the GU Corp has to go through the cruel obstacle and blows to mȧturė and succeed! Rouzhen didn’t have a mother since birth and that’s how he has grown into a man like he is now. My grandson Han could too, so, Miss Chen have I made myself clear?” Lui Gu’s voice calm and flat.
Xiaoxi lowers her head, her eyes misting with tears. She doesn’t say anything but her heart feels as though pierced and plunged by needles and knives. It’s so agonizingly painful that she can’t breathe.
“And there’s one more thing. Rouzhen is the CEO of the GU Corp. This doesn’t change even though I’ve chased him out. Miss Chen, you are not fit to be with him. The ancient ones did talk about perfect matches, don’t they?”
“I understand,” Xiaoxi says painfully.
“What terms do you want?”Lui asks, a little shocked that she agrees so easily.
“Please give Han more love and care, all I want is for him to be happy and to live carefreely like any other kids. And please tell him that I’m not his birth mother and that I’m only asked to be his Mommy for a few days just to cheer him up. Chairman Gu, you’re the child’s grandfather, I suppose you could understand my feelings, we’re both caring for the child. I know that he’s fine, and that would be enough. I’m so sorry that Chao bothered you just now, but rest ȧssured that we’d never appear in your lives ever again!” Xiaoxi takes a deep breath and turns, a tear dropping down from her eyes.
She walks out just like that, not knowing what kind of feelings are surging around her. All that she knows is that intense pain is tormenting her all over, her every step is like stepping on blades.
So that’s what you call heart-wrenching pain, That’s how it feels when you have to go through a separation with your family. It’s like putting your heart in a mincer, mutilating it, until even breathing hurts so much. The air feels suffocating itself!
“Han, I have to go now. I’m so sorry!” Xiaoxi yells secretly, her heart feels pain. She squints her eyes and holds back the agony, another tears stream down and she oppresses her tears by forcing herself to stop crying.
She regrets having to meet Han. She should have just watched him from the other side from the beginning. Maybe she could accept it when she didn’t know his existence but now it might be unacceptable that she meet her young boy and suddenly lost him again. She feels so bad and sad.
She doesn’t know how she was able to return to her home. When she arrives she sees Mama Betty and Chao waiting for her.
Her expressions are calm, or just numb like she’s lost the rest of her emotions.
“Mommy!” Chao calls out.
“Miss Chen, hello!” Mama Betty approaches. She sees Xiaoxi’s pale face like she’s just cried and asked worriedly: “Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine, thank you!” Xiaoxi hold’s Chao’s hand and said, “Chao, let’s get inside. Thanks for sending him home,”
“Your son is clever! Miss Chen, I didn’t know you were Han’s mother!” Mama Betty still wants to talk, but Xiaoxi doesn’t feel like talking. She’s too sad and worn out that she couldn’t think straight.
“I’m not Han’s mother,” Xiaoxi cuts her off: “Rouzhen and I signed a contract just to cheer Han’s up. I’m sorry but I’m busy. Bye,”
She brings Chao in and closes the door.
“Goodbye, Granny!” Chao says politely before the door slams shut.
Mama Betty stands there, shocked. “She’s not? It couldn’t be?” she thought.
“Mommy!” Chao calls her, thinking that his mother is mad at him.
“Chao, dear, return to your room. Mommy needs some space,” Xiaoxi feels exhausted as she stood up and went to her room.
It could never be changed. It’s unchangeable. Han is a product of the contract and she doesn’t have the rights and qualifications to be his mother. He is the future successor of the GU Corp and the GU family doesn’t allow their successor to have any stain.
Xiaoxi stands on the balcony and looks out of the window, staring into blank space.
The sun is shining high in the sky but suddenly, a cloud appears and it all turns dark and gloomy. The wind howls crazily, blowing away the leaves on the ground. It starts raining heavily. She felt sadder.
Xiaoxi still curling on the balcony and leaves the window open even though the cold wind is blowing. She slumps onto the floor limply, when she starts shivering in cold, the darkness looming over her. Her eyes lose focus when the rain sweeps in, rinsing her wet all over.
Her dry eyes feel extremely sore, and tears are not coming out. Her mind is in a huge mess but her heart becomes clearer each time her mind gets messier and jumbled up. She can’t find Han, ever gain, although how much she loves him she still can’t afford to offend the GU family.
A deep and heavy pain swarms up her ċhėst all at once, her hand which is clutching her ċhėst starts scraping on the hard walls. Blood leaks out of the fingers and they’re burning pain. She’s amazed that she could still feel pain.
She smiles sluggishly, giving up on the struggles as she curled up like this, not feeling anything and not thinking anything. All she did was curl up, allowing the sadness to eat her up.
The next day she decided to leave the country. In the airport, Xiaoxi holds her son’s hand and walks towards the boarding gate.
“Mommy, where are we going?” Chao asks Xiaoxi, confused.
His mom locked herself up in the room for a whole day and says they have to leave the next day and that they’re not coming back.
“Back to the mountains, to the bamboo house we used to live in,” Xiaoxi’s face is calm while saying this.
The phone rings. Xiaoxi looks at the familiar name on the screen, a bitter feeling rushing through her ċhėst. She hangs up.
“Chao, Mommy’s going to change the boarding pass. You stay here and don’t get lost, alright?” Xiaoxi lets Chao sit on the chair.
“Okay.” Chao nods obediently and waits for her, taking Xiaoxi’s phone and bag.
The phone rings again and Chao looks down, realizing it’s Rouzhen. “Oh, it’s from an uncle,”
He picks up and Rouzhen’s deep voice comes from the other side: “Xiaoxi, where are you?”
“Uncle, this is Chao, Mommy has gone for a while,” Chao chuckles.
“Oh! Chao, where are you?”
“Uncle, we’re leaving and Mommy doesn’t want Han anymore. Mommy days Hn is not her baby and that you and she are just trying to cheer Han’s up by lying to him. You shouldn’t lie, you know,”
“Where are you guys going?”
“We’re returning to the mountains. Goodbye, Uncle!” Chao wants to hang up.
“Wait, kid, don’t hang up!” Rouzhen never feels so eager and panic before. Why does she say that Han is not her child? What happened? Did the old pops find her? All these thoughts running in his head.
“We’re at the airport, uncle. Mommy’s changing the boarding pass!”
“Wait right there. I’m coming!” Rouzhen said.
He called her as soon as got down from the plane after a more than ten hours flight. And now she says she wants to leave? She even abandons her biological son and says that he’s not her child. This dumb woman, didn’t tell trust her, didn’t he tells her that he’d sort everything out?”
“Winston! I’m heading to the terminal. You go back first if you can’t wait,” Rouzhen tells Winston Framm who sent him back.
“What’s going on?” There’s a concern in his voice.
“Some small problems,” But Rouzhen’s face gives him away. It’s not a small matter. Winston raises his eyebrow, his narrow eyes filled with interest.
“I’ll go with you,”
Two men stride towards the terminal with a few bodyguards following behind, causing people to stare as they pass through.
Rouzhen’s eyes search through every face in the terminal, looking for that familiar face.
Xiaoxi returns after she’s changed the boarding pass, she takes her bag and says to Chao: “Let’s go!”
Chao looks around. “Uncle said he’ll be here in a moment, but why isn’t he here yet?”
“Mommy, I want to go to the toilet,” Chao says suddenly.
“Oh, I’ll bring you there now,” Xiaoxi looks at the toilet at her left side and bring her son. She has to pass through the escalator to get there, and Rouzhen along with Winston is in the same way.
“Xiaoxi Chen!” Rouzhen yells crossly.
Xiaoxi was shocked speechless as she lifts her head to see Rouzhen. He looks astonishing handsome in a black suit, tidy as always. Xiaoxi was stunned as their eyes meet.
Why in the world is he here?
Chao exchanges look with Rouzhen as he marches over.
Winston watches all this deeply. “Huh. This is interesting Rou Rou is mad at this woman!”
They haven’t seen each other in days, and she’s still so pretty and pure. Her skin is pale even though she didn’t wear makeup and there is confusion in her eyes when she spots him. The weakness and shyness that she shows make Rouzhen hug her. “This dumb woman, how dare she run away from me?” He silently said.
Winston looks at the situation, dumbfounded. What is this?
She drags Chao towards the toilet immediately when she saw Rouzhen approaching them.
“Damn it!” Rouzhen frowns and curses, chasing her.
Winston squints his eagle eyes, a little shocked with her reaction. But he doesn’t move and watches everything unfolds.
“Wait!” Rouzhen’s long arm grab her wrist: “Explain to me. What is all this about?”
Xiaoxi forced to turn and look at him. She sees Rouzhen’s familiar angry face.
Her heart feels pain.
“Mister, please let go!” Rouzhen almost goes crazy when he hears the coldness and alienating in her voice. He drags Xiaoxi to a corner madly.
“I’ll be waiting right here, uncle!” Chao waves cunningly. He doesn’t know what’s going on but seeing his Uncle mad makes him so happy. So Uncle does care for his Mommy after all!
“Let me go, Rouzhen Gu!” Xiaoxi screams. Her wrist was tightly clutched by him. She grimaces. When they finally reach a quiet place, he let her go, staring at her seriously.
She lowers her head, keeping silent.
“Tell me. What’s going on?”
“I’m leaving! She replied flatly and looks at the tip of her toe. Her heart feels slightly in pain. She doesn’t know why she still feels dismayed, Lui Gu’s voice echoes in her heart and she becomes clear on what she should do.
She turns and attempts to leave but Rouzhen grabs her.
A lot of people stare at them pulling and tearing.
Xiaoxi doesn’t recognize the onlooker’s curious expressions as Rouzhen’s tall figure is blocking her view. She lowers her head yet again in panic. Rouzhen pinches her chin and lifts her head before saying, his jaw clenched: “Tell me what’s going on! Why are you running away from me?”
The pain has drawn in his handsome face. She stares at him, blurred in tears. He realizes that after separating for not even a week, he feels something weird and different when he sees her. Her face is pretty as ever without makeup. She’s so wonderful that she makes his heart feel disoriented.
“Baby, please answer me? I need your explanation. Why are you running away from me, again?”
