The CEO’s Lovely Wife - Chapter 268
Fu Yung was silent all this time as she listened intently in Master He’s story. And, of course, she too as feeling uneasy at the hawk-like eyes of the old man, the eyes that was full of darkness. It made her feel like he can see through her making her shiver in fear. Still, she gritted her teeth.
“My granddaughter, however, was left to care for herself after her mother died a sudden death. Her father neglected her, made her alone and suffer all on her own. Unfortunately, I was not there when she need someone, me, the most. You see, she became cold.”
Grandpa He’s eyes dimmed. He grunted, standing up from the coach as he walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window. His cane supported him but his back never bent. But under the brilliant glow of the sun outside, his back was looking lonely, sad, cold.
“I was not able to save that sunny smile of hers, the liveliness in her eyes. You see, due to the lack of warmth showered into her, no love, care or an ounce of affection from her father, my granddaughter learned to bottle her emotions up until she forgot all about it. She has no emotions neither expressions. She went numb. But despite all of that, she was the kindest, purest soul I’ve ever known.”
‘It can’t be. How? This is the head of the He family, one of the top families of City A. How is he related to her? Wasn’t she a Sheng? Yes! I can’t be mistaken.’ Peizhi’s heart accelerated, his blood turned cold, fists tightly clenched till it turned white and blue. He does not want to admit it, acknowledge. He does not want to accept that fact because it was just too much of a coincidence.
He then turned around and looked at Peizhi, squinting daggers at him. He looked straight into his eyes and he could see the uneasiness, stubbornness and that feign arrogance and strong front of Peizhi’s that Grandpa He could not help but stretch out his lips into a cold, cold smile. It was cruel yet full of delight as he saw Peizhi quivering in front of him.
The momentum heightened at the silence of Grandpa He. With a stomp of his cane, Peizhi and Fu Yung flinched as they felt their connected hearts stop beating for a second as they focused their attention on Grandpa He.
A howler of laughter suddenly reverberated on all corners of the office which hammered directly into the hearts of all people in the office. It was loud, yes, but the emotion in it made all freeze their blood and shiver in fear. This laughter was filled with pent-up rage, sorrow, and frustration.
“Master…” Assistant Ke looked at his master that he had served since young. His heart ached for him as he lowered his head to not see his master’s overflowing emotions.
“Good. It seemed that you really are not that stupid, ‘Peizhi Park’.” Grandpa He felt like he wanted to spit as soon as he uttered that disgusting name. He narrowed his eyes and smirked.
“I, He Tian, have only one daughter and her name is He Jiao…” Grandpa He paused as he gave a fleeting glance on Fu Yung before returning his gaze on Peizhi who was now drained with blood. “…who was once your wife, Shen Jiao, and the biological grandfather of Lanna October Park.”
Silence so thick and deafening filled the room. It was suffocating but no one dared to say anything nor breath out loud. It was a standstill.
Peizhi blanked out.
Fu Yung’s face darkened as she gnashed her teeth at this sudden revelation.
‘Why? Why?! Why is Lanna that btch so lucky to have such a powerful background? Why did she hide her identity, that she was the granddaughter of a business legend in all of the cities? Why didn’t she tell me?’
Fu Yung regretted it. She truly regretted that she did not continue her friendship with October. There was no guilt in her that she wronged October at all. All she thought about was the riches that she could have when maintaining a deep connection with her once bestfriend. The benefits she could gain from October have become endless ah!
“Haa~! Those faces” Grandpa He muttered and turned his head to Assistant Ke. Assistant Ke immediately pulled his phone out and took pictures of the frozen couple on the couch. This was for Grandpa He’s entertainment purposes. He wanted to relive this time to ease his heart.
But was this the only thing that Grandpa He was here? Ha! Of course not.
Click and clack, the sound of Grandpa He’s shoes sounded. It walked toward Peizhi and Fu Yung and then walked behind them. In every step he took, it was as if darkness followed him and slowly crawled to envelope Peizhi, choking him.
“One more thing, don’t think that I don’t know what happened to ‘her’ that year.”
To Fu Yung, the “her” that Grandpa He was talking about was October. However, that is not so with Peizhi because he knew all too well who Grandpa He was referring to. And this realization made his body cold and his soul shiver.
Fu Yung noticed the ghastly and pale look of Peizhi and suspiciously looked at him. Still, he was her husband and she has to show her care for him even at this time. With that, she placed her hand over Peizhi’s and gave it a small squeeze.
This little gesture was seen by Grandpa He, making him sneer coldly.
“Retribution will come…for them, that is. Because for someone like me, I do not have the patience wait for that day to come.” Grandpa He lowered his back toward Peizhi and whispered darkly, “The blood debt you owe me, I’ll collect them in full.”
After that, Grandpa He walked out of the office grandly with is assistant and bodyguards in tow. His whole person walked tall and straight and the door was slammed behind him.
“How…” Peizhi dazedly muttered, eyes full of horror. There was no blood flowing on his face and his whole body was covered in cold sweat. Even if Fu Yung was shaking him awake, he couldn’t.
‘Impossible! I’ve already meticulously covered my tracks. I was sure to not leave traces that will lead to me. I disposed all of those people that knew about it. What’s more, that’s already been decades ago. How is this possible?!’
“Honey! Darling!” Fu Yung shook Peizhi by his shoulders because he was muttering words all by himself that it started to make her worry. She did not hear what Grandpa He whispered to Peizhi but she was sure that what that old man said had greatly agitated her husband.
“Peizhi, hey! Wake up!” Fu Yung shouted and noticed that Peizhi had finally woken up from his daze. She was about to say something but was stopped, her head flicked to the side and a burning sensation was felt on her cheek.
Peizhi was so agitated, nervous, and frustrated that his anger rose up in annoyance when he was shouted out, making him raise his hand and slap her. However, it was too late when he realized what he had just done.
He looked at his hand and then to Fu Yung who had her hand on her burning cheek, looking at him aggrievedly and trembling. Fu Yung never thought that Peizhi would raise his hand to hit her. She looked at him with eyes full of hurt and a tear successfully rolled down her cheeks one after another.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. Dear, I’m so sorry.” Peizhi tried to pull Fu Yung to an embrace but she pushed him away.
“No, you hit me. Peizhi, you hit me.” Fu Yung cried, her eyes red, the same with her nose. Still, despite her crying face, she still looked alluring in Peizhi’s eyes. She looked at Peizhi and saw his pained and guilty face as he desperately asked for her forgiveness. She gritted her teeth as her heart turned slightly cold. Still, she needed him. He was the only person she can lean on.
“I was distracted and didn’t…I’m sorry, darling. Please forgive me. Please. I won’t do it again. Never would I do it again.” Peizhi pulled Fu Yung and fortunately, she did not push him away but the trembling in her body made Peizhi all the more guilty and sorry for what he just did. He tightly embraced her and said, “I’m sorry.”
