The CEO’s Lovely Wife - Chapter 269
After Grandpa He’s sudden “visit” in Peizhi’s office, he had known that October was not in the building as she was on leave. On the way, because there were a lot of employees who had seen October as their role model, Grandpa He also had heard that his precious granddaughter had fainted during work. He was furious. He stormed out of the building with a heavy face and went straight to the Song Mansion.
While on the way there, he was grumbling and cursing Lexus.
“That darn brat! How dare he not inform me that something bad had happened to my Lan’er. If I can’t give that brat a good beating, my family name is not He!” Grandpa He hissed annoyingly.
At the same time, October was being held gently and carefully by Lexus on the waist as they went inside the mansion.
“I’m fine. I can walk by myself.” October reassured but Lexus did not budge as he stubbornly held her waist.
“No. What would you do…no, what would I do if you’ll fall? I can’t do that.”
October can only sigh in resignation as she knows that Lexus would not let her go.
“Also, mother said that she will be coming to visit us this weekend.” Lexus said as he guided October to sit on the couch.
“Okay.” October nodded. She then remembered something and turned to Lexus who was helping her take off her shoes. “What about my pregnancy? Did you tell her that we are having two?”
“…no.” Lexus had his lips pursed into a thin line.
October raised her brow at him and a smile was threatening to show on her lips. “Why?”
Lexus gave October’s shoes on the maid and in turn got the slippers to put on the floor. After that, he gave her a massage.
“Why?” October asked again.
Lexus furrowed his brows, “They want to name my second child.”
“Pfft—” October let out a snort. As she thought, Lexus really had a cute and child-like side of him. This laugh was heard by Lexus and made his ear turn red.
“What about it?” October touched her slightly bulging belly.
“You say that as if it is not important.”
“It is important, of course. But it’s okay. We can still give them their pet name.”
Lexus thought deeply about it but having two kids at the same time was truly an unexpected blessing. What was more was that this was the children he had with the woman he loved. One could say that October was his first and last love. It doesn’t matter to him if he was not October’s first boyfriend because he knew that in other aspects, he was her first.
“But they are my children, our children. I wanted to name them.” Lexus pouted while continuing to massage her.
“Hubby, listen. They are old. All grandparents in the world would be delighted to carry their grandchildren and would even be more than happy to think good names for them.”
“But…they are our twins.”
“I know. Nothing will change about that. They’ll always be our twins.”
“Twins? Who’s having twins?”
Suddenly, a booming sound came from the door followed by a rapid set of footsteps that went toward October and Lexus. This sudden voice was so unexpected that both snapped their heads toward the direction where it came from.
“Grandpa.” October stopped Lexus from giving her a massage and tried to stand up but she was firmly held by Lexus.
“No. Just stay here and don’t move.”
Don’t think that just because he was old, Grandpa He can’t hear much. In fact, it’s the opposite. He can hear anything, even as soft as a whisper, as long as it’s about his precious granddaughter. And so, when he heard them talking about “our twins,” he felt his heart quickened and his face turned ruddy from excitement. It did not take him long before he arrived in front of the two.
“Yes, yes. My granddaughter, just stay seated.” Grandpa He eagerly said with a wide grin on his old face making his wrinkles more obvious. At the same time, he pushed Lexus away and sat beside October instead.
Lexus’ face turned dark and eyes glaring at the old man who dared to unceremoniously push him away from October’s side. It was irritating. But he could not do anything to Grandpa He because he’s important to October. And so, all he can do was swallow his anger and irritation in the old. Pitiful.
‘This damn old man!’ He cursed while gritting his teeth as he stood up from the couch and made his way toward the kitchen to fetch some food for October to eat.
“Well, you were saying about “twins,” who’s having twins?” Grandpa He’s eyes were full of excitement, anticipation, and a little bit of nervousness as he was trying to hold back the expectation that he was thinking. But then again, as long as he can hold his great-grandchild, all is fine.
October’s face that was somewhat pale looked at the eager face of her grandfather and a warm current flowed into her. A smile then bloomed into her lips and her eyes were gentle, bright and full of happiness as she looked down and placed a hand on her abdomen.
“Grandpa, it’s twins.”
“Twins…” Grandpa He repeated as if trying to let that information sink in. “Twins…haha…hahahaha.”
Grandpa He’s laughter filled the mansion as his olden eyes watered and tears started to fall down his cheeks. He was extremely happy. He has two great-granddaughters that will look exactly like his granddaughter. That’s just great, too awesome!
It wouldn’t be a lie if he said that today is the happiest day of his life after his daughter was born.
“Eat this for now. Dinner will be prepared in a while.” Lexus said nonchalantly while handing October a bowl of bite-sized apple. He crossed his arms over his c.h.e.s.t as he looked at the old man grinning like a total fool.
“Yes, yes. Eat up, my granddaughter. Do you have anything in mind that you wanted to eat? Tell grandpa, I’ll immediately asked someone to prepare it for you.”
‘This old man, is he saying that I can’t give my wife anything she wanted to eat? Is he looking on me?’ Lexus thought this and saw Grandpa He with a provocative look in his eyes as if daring him to shout at him. This instantly made Lexus’ nerve to throb in annoyance.
October softly shook her head with a satisfied look, “It’s okay grandpa. I don’t have anything I need right now.”
Though she said this, October can also tell that her grandpa’s main reason of his sudden appearance was not to see her but another thing. She was definitely curious and she knew that her grandpa was just finding the right time to say something to her.
With that, she put down her bowl of apple and turned to look at Grandpa He. Her eyes looked serious and sharp.
“Grandpa, is there any reason for your sudden visit?”
“Ah? Reason? Hahaha. Do I need a special reason to come and look after my granddaughter?” Grandpa He looked sideways as he faked a laugh. He was sure that was keeping his emotions and expressions in check but it turned out that it was all useless to hide it in the eyes of his granddaughter.
‘Ha! I’m defeated.’ He thought with a bitter and sad smile.
“Lan’er, have you ever wondered why your mother had died so young?” Grandpa He softly asked, eyes looking at the ceiling unfocused.
October gripped her bowl but did not say anything as she let her grandpa continue.
“She was still so young and full of life and yet, without any sound, the burning candle had suddenly extinguished.”
Everyone can hear the sadness and heartbreak in his aged voice that was quivering.
“Grandpa…”
Suddenly, with tears threatening to spill from his eyes but stubbornly holding it, Grandpa He turned to October straight in the eyes. It was as if he finally made a decision.
“Lan’er, I know that it isn’t appropriate for me to tell you this right now but I want you to calm down and listen to me carefully.”
The seriousness in his voice made October alert and turn all her attention on Grandpa He with her heart jumping at her throat.
“Grandpa, say it clearly.”
“My Jiao’er, your mother, did not die of a disease but…of poison.” He said. “She was murdered.”
