The Chief And The Captain - Chapter 23 Twenty Three
Andrew, one of the senior staff writer became the new editor in chief. Annie is the new managing editor and treasurer, May will be the literary editor, Charmaine and Gina will be features and sports editor respectively. While the twins Jo and Jed will be head of cartoons and layout.
We took one last photo as a staff before finally letting the new editors take the spotlight.
Andrew, a natural born leader, who was perfect for the role as the chief started speaking.
“I know we have gone through all the thank yous but we’ll do it again.”
All the staff gathered and surrounded is seniors.
“Thank you” they said in unison.
“For being the best part of the publication, for training us to become passionate, for teaching us how to meet our deadlines, whether they seem impossible or not. Thank you for teaching us how to work hard and how to deliver without asking for anything I exchange. Thank you for giving us a family here at school, where people mostly think we’re a group of boring nerds. And as thank you..”
The staff handed us each a blow up card, a collage of our photos at the PubRoom, during layoutings, even lunch breaks. They also scribbled notes and thank yous and good lucks.
“We present to you our farewell, a flashback of our year as a family. And if you feel lonely, just look for the twins ugly faces somewhere there.”
His last statement made everyone burst into laughter, while I burst into tears. I was enveloped by warm hugs from the staff and I just stood there and sobbed like a kid.
After all the drama and the thank yous and goodlucks, we finally called it a day. I have forgotten about Rick who was being quiet in a corner watching. We would briefly exchange glances and gave each other a smile here and there but we haven’t talked. When the room’s finally cleared, Rick locked the door behind him and wrapped his arms around my waist from behind. He nuzzled his face in my neck and murmured something incomprehensible.
“What?” I asked as I try to collect my things from the table while dragging the bear clinging to me.
I lifted his head and planted a chaste kiss in my cheek. “I missed you.”
I turned so his could face him. He brushed a finger under my eyes and pouted. “Have you been sleeping?”
I closed my eyes and rested my face in his hands, feeling the roughness of his hand in my cheeks. He slowly lifted my face a kissed me in my forehead, my eyes and finally his lips found mine. He gave me a light kiss and nibbled on my lower lip.
“You look tired.” He breathed, “are you alright?”
I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. I opened my mouth as invitation and he deepened his kiss. He lifted me and sat me on the table. I pulled on his shirt and wrapped my legs around his hips. I could feel his buldge harden underneath his jeans. I let out a satisfied smirk.
“What’s so funny?” He responded as he pushed to my back trailed kisses down my neck. I let out a soft moan as he nibbled my earlobes.
“We better go home.” I said. Or else..
Rick’s hand trailed down my chest and under my shirt. He tugged my jeans I let out a gasp. Rick pulled my shirt up and kissed me on the belly button and pulled me upright.
Panting, he lightly brushed his lips in mine. “Let’s go?”
