The Chief And The Captain - Chapter 31 Thirty One
“What’s up?”
She handed us a letter the moment we stepped in her bedroom. It was very Jessie. The walls were painted pink but posters of rock bands adorned her wall, a contrast. “I got accepted at A-uni. ”
“Us too” Rick beamed
“I know, for crap’s sake nobody tells me anything anymore. Your brother just happened to tell me he’s transferring to A-HIGH next school year. I’m like.”she pointed at the two of us, “your fairy godmother.”
“Ahh .. sorry.” Rick laughed nervously. “We have a spare room, you can live with us?”
She shook her head, “I already found an apartment for myself” I didn’t miss the change of look in her eyes.
“When will you guys be moving? Maybe I’ll join in, save me the cost of the transportation.”
“We were just talking about it, we can’t say yet. ”
“Hmm..” she eyed us suspiciously
“Things did not go well With Dad” Rick plopped on the bed beside me.
“So I heard.”
“Is there anything that you haven’t heard?”
“Your brother reports to me.” She said as a matter of factly.
“Sneaky.”
Jessie sat beside me in the bed and wrapped her arms around me. “How about you?”
“What about me?” I asked
“What’s up with you?”
“What do you mean?’
“Why do you keep answering my questions with questions?” She raised her brow at me.
Rick peeled Jessie away from me, “hands off.”
“Your parents, I mean.”
“Good, I’d say. They had no problem with it.”
Her eyes grew wide. “Wow, and you were so stressed about it. That’s good then.”
“If only it’s the same for everybody.” Rick mumbled.
“Woow..”Jessie whistled. “Didn’t expect that coming from you. Maybe from Mr Nega here” she patted my shoulder. “But not from you.”
Rick just shrugged in response.
“You always find a way around things. You always do.”
We were all huddled in Jessie’s bed, eating chips and watching Netflix. However Rick was asleep halfway through the show.
“Noah Centineo is such an eye candy.” Jessie commented.
I shrugged.
“You are not really much of a talker.” She gave me a side glance.
“I never was.”
“Well, yeah. You’re always quiet, but you’re so smart, you don’t always ask questions, it seems like you know it all. I always admire that about you.” Jessie patted my shoulders. “Then you have Rick. I guess I envy you.”
“I-i, uhmm.” I stuttered.
“Hah, don’t worry about it, I still love you, you know. “
