The Commoner Consort: The Country’s Respected Empress - Chapter 113
Mary looks at Maya with all her hopes “You will save him, don’t you?! I k-know… you will! You can’t live without him, can you? I know you will bring him back alive-“.
Maya declares in a cold voice “If you knew the answer, you wouldn’t be begging in front me now, Madam Mary! You know what my stand is”.
Mary is taken aback by Maya’s statement and panics seeing Maya’s aloofness “No..You will save him…and you should!-“.
Maya gulps down her emotions and smirks devilishly “Why would I? and…”.
She leaves Mary from her grip and steps back calmly as if she is leaving everything about Madam Mary’s request behind. She asks with a mocking smirk “Why should I? After all..I am not his wife”.
Even though her face had a smirk, her tone of voice has some other story behind it concealed.
Mary jostles towards Maya hurriedly “You can’t say that! You can’t lie to me, Maya! I know what were going on between you and Xavier! -“.
Maya asks innocently “I too wonder Madam Mary. ..What exactly were going on between us? I never knew these poor world is aware of everything happened…I can bet you are assuming things by believing those rumours. I can say and see that you have lost your mind already”.
Mary is about to grab Maya but the chained hands of her prevented her from doing so.
She screams furiously “You witch! I know everything! Don’t you dare punish my son because of my crimes! He is innocent! And you can’t punish him just because of some previous misunderstanding between you!
Maya looks at Mary’s chained hands in disdain and speaks mysteriously “I dare to do anything, Madam Mary..Because I can!”.
She spoke those words with so much deeper meaning which only she could understand them.
Maya walks away from the prison ignoring Mary’s screams behind her. Anyone’s heart would have molten by hearing an elderly lady’s wailing to save her son but Maya’s heart didn’t. She steps out of the prison and takes a deep breath. As if concealing her emotions…
Celina whispers while getting the lamp back from Maya’s hands “Did she say anything? Why did she do this?”.
Maya just orders “Let’s leave from here…”
‘It feels suffocating…’.
Celina walks towards the door but stops suddenly remembering something. She turns back to look at Maya who had an emotionless face and asks hesitantly “Don’t you..want to …meet her?”.
Maya was thinking something seriously and snaps out from it hearing Celina. She immediately understands what Celina was asking and speaks sternly “I would never want to”.
‘I don’t have the courage to see that backstabber again..I might forgive even my enemies…not a betrayer’.
Celina only nods repeatedly “Yes… We will leave at once!”.
Maya walks following Celina silently but her mind wasn’t.
‘Madam Mary knew….about everything…from the start. I never realised that I had been watched..spied..seen through by her. I thought I could conceal everything in my heart but no…She knows…she knows what I would do and she still has the audacity to ask! She asked me to save him!’.
She felt something pulling her down and burdening her. She ignores the sudden feeling as she can’t really feel any of them while thinking about Mary’s words.
‘Am I that predictable? If that’s the case..then..why could He never predict me?! Why could he never understand me at all? Everyone says I have expressive eyes…that tells everything in my heart…but why couldn’t he see anything at all?!’.
Maya was feeling difficult to think further. She was breathing heavily already by the end of that question in her mind and looks around the tunnelled way which was completely dark. She walks with much difficulty as she could barely see Celina now. She stops walking further and leans over the wall weakly.
She only recalls about her injuries and sits tiredly.
‘I don’t want to stop here…I don’t want to depend completely on the gamble that I made recently. I can’t completely rely on that. I have to do something before…I die’.
She felt the thought weird as she never thought of death in her life this seriously. Actually she never thought that she could just die!. At least she never thought about dying till now. She might have gotten afraid at some dire situations which almost took her life. But she fought till the end in all the battles not yielding to death at any cost.
She laughs at the thought bitterly and checks her cotton gauges stuffed on the injury is now completely drenched by her blood. She could feel her outer robs drenching with blood and a strange doubt arises in her mind.
‘Was I tricked? By coming here….Did she ..plan this too? Am I overthinking or …Did Celina betrayed me too?!’.
She whines mentally and looks at Celina who is far from her now.
She looks around trying to make some noise so that Celina could look back if she is really on her side but no. The tunnel is completely dark now, not making her afraid but making everything invisible from her eyes…
She is slowly dying in the tunnel. Echoes could have worked in there. If she just screamed for help even in her low voice, Celina could have heard her anyway. But she chose to sit silently than to scream for help defeatedly. Strange. She didn’t use her powers. Strange again!

Back to the present.
Maya is observing the box carried by the bunch of soldiers.
One of the soldiers drops the box by mistake which made the others to lose their grip for a second. The box didn’t hit the ground but the damage was already done!
Maya can see the drops of liquid dripping from the box and tilts her head in confusion “Water?”
‘What kind of stupid are they? Who would bring water in a carriage to attack their enemies?! So absurd-‘.
She stops her mocking mind when she recalls about Bhommi’s words. A sudden enlightment made her to get shocked.
‘Magical water? It should be…That’s why it’s repelling Bhommi..Will this give eternity? Like the Elixir of Life does in the epics?-‘.
Before she could think further, she is stoned to see something impossible in front of her!
“The water is turning the dried leaves into stone!”.
