The Confusions Of Love - Chapter 3 Elizabeth
_ I WANT TO DIVORCE!!!
What? I woke up scared and disoriented. It was silent again and I thought I was dreaming, almost falling asleep again I heard. The sound of something breaking glass made me get out of bed and pick up my glasses and hurry out of my room. In the hallway I heard something else breaking and a raging female scream. I ran up the stairs curiously, this scream I knew. Was my mother giving up again?
“I’m going to divorce you.” His loud, angry voice made me even more curious. This sort of thing was pretty normal here at home. My parents fighting and saying that they would divorce each other_ how can you be so useless?
Wow, I thought it was funny, there’s someone in here very upset, Dad. Do not tell me you betrayed Mommy to the secretary again?
_ It’s not so simple_ my father looked tired and irritated_ The company was already in trouble in my father’s time.
“And you could not do anything about it?”
_ That’s right, I could not do anything about it_ my shouted irritated_ The company is failing. And we have a problem.
Faltering? This is more serious than I thought. Nor does it compare to cases of infidelity on both sides.
_ We have a problem? _ Mom asked laughing with contempt_ No dear, you have problem. Because I did not marry you to end up with nothing.
How great and tell me again why you married me? Why obviously it was not because he loves me.
“Do you really want to know?” I asked. “I married you because I became pregnant with Emily.
I knew my parents did not love each other. He also listened to the employees talking. Mother married my father because she got pregnant. You know, the famous thump of the chest. At first I was very sad about it, it really hurt me. But over time I realized that not even my father was in love with my mother. They both had their cases and they seemed happy about it. Not caring about others thought. Mom was a dondoca who lived in hairdressers and chic clubs, spending money.
“It does not matter,” Dad replied angrily. “I’ve packed everything anyway. We’ll be fine.
_ What you mean?
“My friend Dennis will help me get up, but he did not look really excited about it. It intrigued me, I pricked my ears. Apparently my mother also noticed why she asked.
_ What are not you telling me?
_ The eldest son is a genius. He managed to double the family’s fortune in just five years. “He did not look excited to acknowledge that.” So Dennis wants his son to be in charge of running the company.
Will they buy the company from you?
“No. Dennis wants to marry his eldest son, Paul. With Emily_ he sighed loudly and I heard him turning a liquid into a glass_ We signed a contract, now it’s just missing the wedding.
Poor guy from Paul. But since this was no longer my business, I decided to go back to my room and sleep.
Soon I woke up before the awakened one played as always. I showered and changed into my uniform. I tied my blond hair in a high ponytail and grabbed my glasses. In the room the last night’s mess that my parents sure left for the servants to clean, had already been cleaned. In the kitchen Mrs. Dona was preparing my breakfast.
As always she arrived early because of me. Since I had to get up early to be able to go to school, she came early so I could make my breakfast. And this was the best moment, for neither did my father or mother get up early. My sister then? Certainly not. I drank the coffee all by myself.
“Did you sleep well, girl?” She asked me, smiling. Despite always arriving early Dona always had a smile for me.
“Yes, I did. I got some French bread and passed Nutella.” Even though I was awakened at night by my parents’ quarrel.
_ I saw the mess when I arrived _ she put a glass of milk with chocolate on the table for me_ What happened?
I wanted to tell, but I decided to stay in mine.
_ I still do not know well_ I took a cole_ I have to wait and see.
Mr James came through the door, interrupting us.
_ Ready to go?
I looked at the clock and took the glass of chocolate milk in big sips. I grabbed my thing and got out with him to the car.
“See you later, Dona_ I waved to her.
“Be careful,” she shouted from the kitchen door, saying goodbye.
_ What time should I look for you? _ I thought about the conversation I heard last night and I decided to spend some time with my friends today.
“I do not need to pick me up today. I’ll be back with Kelly later.
_ Okay_ he left opening the door so I could leave.Have a good day, miss.
“Thank you, James. You too.
And he left with the car leaving me in the doorway in front of the front yard.
The students were coming and the schoolyard was already full with talk and teenage laughter unconcerned with life. But no sign of my friends. A Mercedes Benz pulled into the school parking lot and stopped next to me. Greg came out with all his warm body and brown hair and came to me.
_ Hi Lisa_ he lengthens me smiling.
He’s actually doing it. You know how much I wanted to believe he really was interested in me. I watched bad girls over to relax talking to the captain of the soccer team / dance king / popular guy.
“Hi, Greg,” I replied, half-heartedly.
“Are not you coming in?” He asked, pointing his school to shore.
_ Not yet_ answering with a small smile_The girls have not arrived yet.
_ Okay. See you later.
_ Of course_ I hope not.
The familiar noise of a volvo caught my attention Kelly and had arrived in the same car.
_ Hi we said together.
We walked into the room alone. Sometimes clashing with other students and diverting from others. The hallways of the schools were the worst pedestrian strip in existence.
“My family’s company is failing,” I told them softly in front of our closets.
“Serious?” Tessa also whispered in surprise.
“What happened?” Kelly asked interestedly.
I bought my books and closed my closet. I looked around so no one could hear.
“Looks like my dad did, good how can I say?” I paused for a moment thinking about how I could say, so I gave up. “He did shit.
“What will your family do now?” Kelly asked. I knew she was not particularly worried about my family but me.
“My father arranged a financial wedding for my sister,” I said, still whispering.
There was silence.
_ Poor guy! _ We say together and then we laugh loudly.
My sister was no worse person than the world I admit, but it was very annoying. Of course she was beautiful, tall and lean. The wet dream of anyone. She took her law degree and works for a renowned firm. But go out every night and almost never go home. And he spent a lot on clothes and shoes and things he did not need.
“You know what we need right?” Kelly asked excited. “We need to have fun and forget the worries of life. So I guess we should go to that nightclub today, “Kelly said, sitting down in the chair next to me.
“We’re 16 years old, entry prohibited, remember?” I asked, lowering my voice as the students came and went in their places. But I wanted to go, I realized, it’s been a long time since we’ve gone out together just to dance and have fun.
_ Not with that_ Tessa took two identity cards with photos from the wallet_ My congratulations to all of us. We are older and we swept away – she gave me my_Elisabeth Raymond you are now 22 years old. And she’s a university student. What do you think?
As always this was too much. It seemed true. Great photo, I thought.
“When did you do that?” I asked.
Last night when Kelly called complaining about training and wanted to dance. So I did. I thought we would need something like that if we decided to go, then looked at the identity with affection and pride. I’m really, right?
I thought about it as I looked at my own false identity and then at the true one and really I could not tell what the difference was between the two.
_ Yes, certainly you are more_ I agreed with her_ We can go more_ I added to the two_ I will not drink.
“Okay,” Kelly said, smiling victoriously.
“Yes,” Tessa said loudly, celebrating.
Our teacher entered the room just after the sign.
_ Ok, people all seated and silent. Let’s begin the class.
