The Confusions Of Love - Chapter 8 Paul
The church was full and I was incredibly bored. I guess I should not think about my wedding day this way but what could I do after all?
I looked at my best friend in a suit. He smiled knowingly.
I looked at the clock again and wondered if the delay of the bride was really necessary. Her sister was here. The dress will fall, blue will fall on her. And today she did not wear her glasses I was strangely disappointed. Her friends were also pretty and neat. They were sitting next to my mother and they seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The bride’s mother and father were not around, and the delay was already starting to worry me. Would she have given it back? And the contract? I looked at my father and he seemed to understand, got up and went outside.
Elisabeth also got up and followed my father. Five minutes later they did not come back, but her friends ran away. My mother looked at me worriedly following behind them. Jake looked at his cell phone and gasped loudly. He looked at me and then at the phone again and laughed out loud. The guests looked at him.
“What is it?” I asked in a loud whisper.
“It’s nothing,” he replied. “I’ll go there and I’ll be right back.
He also left leaving me alone at the altar.
The whispers began when the delay of the bride became really inelegant. And I was getting really angry. Jake and my mother came back, my mom did not look happy but Jake looked really funny. Elisabeth’s friends came back whispering and looked worried, her mother just behind them smiling with no worries.
The music started and I was curious about why Emily’s sister had not come back to attend the wedding ceremony.
The bride walked in with her father and they all stood to look. Her face was veiled, but there was something different about her. His father handed me his hand and I took off his veil and I was startled. Instead of Emily the person in front of me was her sister Elizabeth. And she did not look happy. His eyes met mine and they were filled with tears.
I looked at my father and mother. They knew and understood Jake’s motive for laughter. We looked at the priest and the marriage ceremony began.
“What happened to your sister?” I asked in a whisper so that only she could hear.
“She ran away,” she muttered, sniffing.
_ Are you ok? _ I asked worried_ I can stop the marriage.
“No, you can not,” he replied. “And I’m fine.
The wedding was faster than I expected and it all went away quickly. Surely the shock of me marrying the wrong sister might have something to do with it.
The party that took place at Hotel Vero Lusso belonged to a friend of mine and we won the wedding gift party. Along with an evening in the presidential master suite. The guests did not seem to have noticed the exchange since the two were similar and with that makeup she looked even more.
The girls were talking in a low voice and it seemed really urgent as the three of them went to the bathroom together.
“What happened?” I asked irritably to my father. “Why did I marry a 16-year-old girl?”
_ Emily ran away and we did not know what to do_ my father replied_Thomas could not pay for the breach of contract, so the solution was not to break the contract.
_ What a beautiful solution you have arranged_, ironizei_ Can not believe in you. This is getting ridiculous.
_ I’m sorry, dear_ my mother hugged me_ I did not want to agree with that.
“But you agreed,” I pointed out the obvious to her.
“I said he would not like that.” Jake still seemed to burst into laughter. But he was holding back.
My now, wife joined us and came to me.
_ It’s time for the dance.
_ OK.
Dancing with her was a bit strange at first because she was tense at first, but when she relaxed in my arms and danced together.
“What are you thinking?” I asked.
She smiled, her arms around my neck tightening.
“I’m thinking I’m a married woman now.”
“And that’s not what you wanted, right?” I asked her with a smile.
“I do not know,” she replied, looking around. “I thought about getting married, of course I thought,” she agreed, looking at me. “But I never thought I would marry 16 and my sister’s fianc.
“I did not think I would marry a girl so young,” I replied to her. “That was not what I had in mind.
“Sorry to disappoint,” he replied, looking away.
I thought about it and incredible as it may seem I was not disappointed.
“That may surprise you,” he said softly to her as the song ended, we pulled away. “But I’m not disappointed.
She looked surprised and speechless, Jake appeared.
_ My time to dance with the bride_ he pulled her to him and the two began to dance.
Kelly pulled me by the hand.
_ Now you and I are going to dance_ we started to dance and she looked at me seria_ Do not even think about hurting my friend_ tried to interrupt but she shook her head making me stop_ Lisa is scared, she does not know what to expect from this marriage. And you better treat her very well.
“I will not hurt her,” I promised. She was obviously threatening me, but I was happy about it. Elisabeth was a nice girl. So it was true that cool girls attracted other cool girls, I thought.
Tessa also wanted to say a few things, she told me. But you know, she can not talk to anyone.
I laughed out loud, I recognize that Tessa really could not talk to anyone. But I was happy anyway. That made me relieved. Elisabeth had wonderful people on her side.
“I promise not to hurt or do anything that might hurt her.” What do you think of that? “I asked her.
“I’ll settle for that.” When the song was over, she turned away, staring at me. “But remember, we’re keeping an eye on you.
I went to the bar and Jake followed.
“What are you thinking?” He asked. We ordered whiskey.
“What do you think of it all?” I asked him instead.
“I think this is getting very interesting,” he replied. “I mean, who could have imagined that Emily would run away from the wedding?
I did not think she could run away. I agreed with him, I watched the girls on the dance floor, they were dancing together and having fun. But I knew she did not want this marriage as much as I did.
“I knew that, too.” Jake looked at them, too. “But does Lisa marry you?” This I did not expect.
“I did not look at him. What am I going to do with a 16-year-old wife still in school?” I asked, genuinely interested in her answer.
_ I have no idea_ Jake said and this time he was serious_ But one thing I’m sure. It will be fun_ he laughed out loud, looking amused.Think so, when you have a teenage daughter you will know what to do. Since you married one.
Thinking about it almost made me cry, no joke.
My mother approached the girls and pulled Elisabeth to talk, the two sat at an empty table and began to talk. Sometimes Elisabeth would blush and answer something.
“Maybe I should go and save your new wife,” Jake pointed to the table. “I’m going to dance with the girls.
It was already two o’clock in the morning, and most of the guests were gone, only a few still danced and drank talking to Thomas and my father.
“Mom, I interrupted what she was going to say.”
“Sure,” she smiled at Elisabeth. “No need to worry about anything, dear. It’s going to be okay. “She hugged me tightly.” I’m going to get your father and we’ll leave. You two are going to spend the night here, right?
_ Yes_ I agreed Elisabeth looked at me frightened I shrugged_We have a reservation.
I sat down on the empty chair my mother had vacated.
“Are we sleeping here?” She asked me, looking nervous.
“Yes, I just slept.” I stared at her, trying to say without needing to say I would not do anything.
She relaxed visibly. Kelly, Tessa and Jake came together laughing.
_ Jake is going to take us home _ Kelly looked at both of us_ What are you going to do?
“Let’s spend the night here,” I said, catching the glances the girls exchanged and Elisabeth shook her head, saying no. Jake laughed.
“We’ll see each other tomorrow.
He was mocking me. We left the room and went to the elevator, the silence was stifling.
“Did you have fun?” I asked.
_ Yes_ replied_ Although this was not really my marriage.
“That’s it,” I agreed. We entered the suite and the place was really amazing, richly decorated.
Out of nowhere the whole thing seemed too much and I started laughing at the situation. Instead of marrying Emily Reymond, I married her sister Elisabeth and she is only 16 years old. This seems too much. She laughed a little and then sobered.
“It’s not funny,” she told me.
