The Copy Mage - Chapter 209: Wounded Maniac Part 2
The Innate Ability was known as the Wounded Maniac Innate Ability and upon the experiment succeeding, he broke free of his chains with the great power that was awakened within him.
The transformation into the monster took a short while and it wasn’t a complete success that could be called a Beast Innate Ability, but it was the closest they had gotten to succeeding and he would become a frightening monster.
It was a joyous day for the mad researcher and the family as he began calling them over to watch the transformation of his own child into a grotesque monster.
The entire time he seemed to be screaming in pain and agony and it was as if an entirely different entity within him was taking over his body and changing it into a beast.
However, after the transformation was completed, they couldn’t believe how wild, unrestrainable and powerful he had become and he ripped up his father, the mad researcher, along with many others into shreds.
He even destroyed the entire research facility and killed anyone around him, until he was finally restrained and taken down by the powerful cultivators within the family.
What was shocking was that he had managed to do so with his bare hands and the spikes that had been formed all over his body.
It was an ugly creature that had caused them great casualties and destruction, but they didn’t want to harm him as he was the closest they had ever gotten to producing Artificial Innate Abilities and the hope of them being able to do so again.
Since he had also eliminated the mad researcher and the research facility, he became even more valuable as it was unlikely that anyone would be able to reproduce the successful experimentation that had taken over 30 years of the cytopathic researcher’s life.
After the transformation was completed, he had extreme post-traumatic stress and feared whatever was within him and was afraid to ever transform into such a creature again.
He locked himself away for weeks, until he was finally able to overcome what he was experiencing, but even in his normal form, he could no longer be called a human and he felt no emotion.
The only thing he didn’t want was to experience pain ever again or have to transform into that monster, so he requested his family to train him and he was also surprisingly quite talented.
They couldn’t eliminate him and locking him within the family would be a waste, but getting him to represent the family could also bring them shame and trouble despite his talent, as he was mentally unstable.
Despite the great power the transformation gave him, it caused him great pain to activate it and would forcefully be taken over by the monster, and he would also experience great mental and physical pain afterwards.
To him, it felt as though the monster within him was his father that was continuously torture him and one couldn’t help but fear an individual that caused him severe pain and suffering for many years and also killed all of his loved ones in gruesome ways in front of his eyes.
In order to avoid ever allowing the transformation to take place which would occur whenever he was wounded, dealt great pain or reminded of his past, he trained in the spear and movement techniques.
He made sure that he was always able to avoid or block any attack sent his way and the spear was the perfect weapon to attack others, while keeping his distance from them and he made sure to train as hard as he could in its use.
After two years of training, he became very skilled and a well-known Royal Mercenary, but he was feared by all the other mercenaries because of the look in his eyes and ruthless and cold nature.
There were also rumours of him being a monster that was insuppressible by his family, but he was accepted and treated well by a single man, and that was his current mercenary group leader.
Their leader appeared to be a nonchalant, reckless and playful individual, but he had never failed a mission and had also been through a great deal of pain and suffering.
He didn’t treat his subordinates like valued brethren, but he made his intentions clear and also split the payments as per the value to the team, and also gained their respect because of his great power and how well he understood and resonated with each and every member.
Their team was known as the team filled with insane mercenaries that nobody understood and were rejects of society that all suffered greatly in their past and made them mentally twisted.
Each of them including their leader was unique and said to be crazy and only an insane man could lead a group of weirdos.
He was a man that would only accept missions based on his own interests and intentionally formed a band of capable, but misunderstood individuals that all had nothing to lose and were willing to put their lives on the line and provide him with greater interest.
The leader, just like all of his subordinates, had suffered too much to care about life or have anything that he was fighting for, so instead, all they could do was pursue entertainment.
As long as he could experience and witness interesting events as long as satisfy his curiosity, he was willing to take on any mission no matter how dangerous.
The reward would obviously need to be satisfactory, but he had refused many missions that were very rewarding, merely because they were boring and crazy people like them couldn’t help but seek thrilling experiences.
Each of the mercenaries was greatly skilled, but their mind and heart had been broken by the cruel world and their previous experiences, but all of that didn’t matter much to Damian, as either way, they were currently his enemies and out for his life.
With an idea of the mercenary’s past, Damian couldn’t help but become wary as he watched the mercenary that wielded a spear transform into something that could no longer be called a human.
