The Craftsman - Chapter 472 Backstory
Fifteen years ago, Tony Stark had found himself at a small Italian family diner. He had a disguise on because although it seemed he loved the attention that was untrue. He had always enjoyed being private but that didn’t help the company so he had a persona on when he was in public.
Today however, he had decided to simply take some time off and relax. The diner was a place he had found roughly four years earlier and he had easily become a regular. The food was amazing.
Then a woman maybe a year younger than him sat across from him at his small two seat table in the back corner. She smiled and said “Hi, I’m Mary. I noticed you looked a bit lonely back here so I thought I’d join you.”
Tony smiled and said “Well I’m Tony, it’s nice to meet you. So what made you like this diner?”
Mary smiled adorably and said “I like to visit small diners that are losing money and try to help, I was an employee for about a year before you came.”
Tony’s heart skipped a beat when she smiled then he said “That’s very nice of you, tell me, when you aren’t helping small family diners what do you do?”
Mary beamed with pride as she said “I work as a biological scientist, and I also work on improving medical technology.”
This obviously peeked Tony’s curiosity and they began a long discussion into science. Every now and then they would ask eachother about themselves and like that it was night. Tony really enjoyed Mary’s company and said “If you’d ever like to talk or just hang out again you can call my number.”
With that said he gave her his number and they talked for a while longer before Tony got a call telling him he was needed at the company. Sighing he turned to Mary and said “I’m needed at work, please call me when you have free time and we can try to meet up.”

It was later that year that the two got together. Mary having easily accepted that she had been meeting Tony Stark all this time. Tony felt he could just be himself around her and so he was.
When she got pregnant, while it was an accident, they were both incredibly happy. Tony just hoped he wouldn’t be like his father. Mary of course knew what he was thinking and regularly told him she would knock some sense into his head if he was.

When little Peter was born they had come up with a equation that only they knew the answer to. It was so that if anything happened and some thought the other was dead they could use the equation, although it was rather hit or miss, Tony would later find out.
Peter was three when Tony and his mom had gone to Afghanistan for a weapons test. Almost a year later when Tony returned his son was already lost in foster care. He searched and searched but he couldn’t find his little boy.
