Chapter 92: CH92: Handovers
“Nothing is better than going home to family and eating good food and relaxing”
– Irina Shayk
======================
The other day Delilah received a call, telling her that she had gotten the job that she had applied for. To say that she was happy was an understatement. It felt like that all the prayers that she had done were answered. And the fact that she will start next week, she felt a bit excited. She will be working in a new environment and with new people.
Back then, after Delilah had hung up the call, Aubree, who was standing behind her, was quiet. And soon after, the latter squealed in happiness for her. She clapped her hands excitedly and Delilah could tell how genuinely happy the latter was for her.
She felt touched but at the same time, sad. Touched that Aubree seems very happy for her but sad as well as she would really miss the other woman. Although they have known each other for more than two years, it was enough that they had great friendship as well. The two of them know their boundaries as supervisor and employee yet still maintain that camaraderie.
After Aubree had left for her cubicle, Delilah immediately worked hard to finish off her handovers. She literally had to recall what she had done before since she also had to write out instructions for the one who would replace her here in the future.
It took her more than two days to finish whatever handovers she needed to be done. She also had to meet with the IT officer, Zaza, to pass over her computer and other electronic items. It had been quite a busy day for her.
On her last day of work at the Kang company, Delilah decided to spend their lunchtime, eating out. Other than Aubree, she also brought Amy from the other branch along.
She told them that she wanted to go and eat at a newly opened restaurant that served Thai delicacies. She once saw the promotion on Instagram (one of the social medias) and thought the dishes being posted looked quite delicious.
Amy, who was at the other branch, received the map of the restaurant from Delilah and said that she would meet them there.
Hence, Delilah and Aubree went in one car and would later meet up with Amy at the restaurant.
She did not tell them that she would be treating them because she knew that they might hold-back on what to order so she had kept quiet.
After they had arrived at the restaurant which was a few minutes drive from their office, they saw Amy waiting outside the restaurant. Waving hello at her together, they went inside and were assimilated by the strong scent of spices and the intoxicating smells of sugary-sweet basil. It was then Delilah realized that the smell was so strong, she was afraid that it might stick to their clothes.
As if knowing what Delilah was thinking, Aubree assured her that she brought along her cologne so they could just borrow hers once they were done with their lunch.
Once they were guided to an empty table, the three women made themselves comfortable and began to study the menu. There were a lot of varieties, not just Thai dishes but also Western and Chinese, which surprised them. But because the restaurant is a Thai restaurant, they should at least try their specialities.
Few minutes later, the three women placed their order. Aubree ordered the Tom Yum gung with white rice, Amy; Pattaya fried rice while Delilah had the Green Curry Chicken with white rice. After they were done with their orders, the three women talked amongst themselves. Amy was pleasantly surprised to find that it was Delilah’s last day of work. She scolded her lightly for not telling her earlier.
Delilah sheepishly apologized as she had been so busy with the handovers, she did not manage to tell anyone about her new job, other than her family and a few others at the office. Amy continued to mockingly scold her for not letting her know until Delilah teased her by asking why, was she going to give her any goodbye presents?
Delilah was stumped into silence when Amy replied yes.
Aubree laughed at Delilah’s stunned expression. Delilah did not expect that
answer.
After much back and forth teasing from Delilah and Amy, their meals finally arrived.
The smell from Delilah’s green curry chicken and Aubree’s tom yum gung were so strong, it was like a huge splash of heady perfume that made people drooled.
Delilah’s green curry chicken was really green in color with thin sauce. The dish itself smells of lemongrass, basil, chilis, garlic, ginger, coconut milk, cumin and coriander mixed together. As she stirred the sauce in the bowl where they served the curry chicken in, she could still smell the strong fragrant aroma of the herbs and spices of the curry coming out from it.
She poured some of the thin sauce in her rice, making the rice soaked with green curry sauce. She stirred around in the bowl looking for the chickens where it was cut into bite-sized pieces. She took a piece and felt the chicken was cooked perfectly; it was tender and juicy. It was soaked with the curry sauce, adding more kick to the flavour. The coconut milk in the curry made the sauce more creamy yet still thin.
She liked how the curry sauce mixed well with the rice, making it so addicting that she could not stop eating. It nearly made her order another plate of white rice, just to finish the curry sauce.
The three women continued to enjoy their meals while talking and laughing. They too tasted each other’s dishes and said that the next time that they come here, they should try other dishes.
Once they were done with the meals, they went to the cashier counter. Aubree and Amy were about to pay for their meals but Delilah stopped them by saying that it was her treat. The two women were surprised and thanked her for the meals.
After they had arrived at the office with Amy going in the other direction, towards the other branch, Aubree passed her cologne to Delilah, who immediately sprayed herself with the perfume.
Inside, the two went on separate ways, where Delilah went straight to the administrative office while Aubree went up to the HR Department floor.
At the administrative office, the atmosphere was lively and hectic as usual. There were many people scurrying around as if they were in a rush or something. When Delilah first worked at the Kang Company, this was the same sight she saw back then. And apparently, on her last day, it was the same sight as well.
One of the admins, Joann was at the printer area, looking as if she was waiting for her papers to be printed. She was a bubbly petite woman with dark skin and large eyes. Her hair was cut to a small bob and she wore large round glasses, making her eyes look large. And the glasses itself looked larger than her own face, making her look adorable as well.
When she heard someone entering their office, she turned around and had a huge smile when she saw Delilah.
Leaving her papers behind at the printer, she walked over to Delilah and said, “Hey, Delilah!”
“Joann, don’t you guys go out for lunch?” Delilah asked curiously. It was as if they worked through lunch that day.
Joann waved away her concerns. “We’ll go for lunch later. We’re pretty busy at this moment. Still, I did receive your handovers. Thanks for that. Oh yes, you’ll be sending the computer to the IT department, right?” she asked.
Delilah nodded. “Yes, I’ll do that after this. I’m here to get my documents so I can pass them to Aubree,” she said.
“Oh, you don’t have to wait for it, Delilah,” Joann told her. “We’ll be sending via emails. Once you’ve handed over your handovers and the things to the IT, everything should be settled. You don’t hold anything from the office, do you? Like the company chop?”
Delilah shook her head. “No, that’s at Aubree. I usually borrow it from her. And the company laptop and its items will be sent to the IT, as well as deletion of my company emails and etc,” she answered simply.
Joann clapped her hands once, smiling. “Then you’ll all set. Go meet the finance department in regards to your last salary and that’s about it,” she said. “I wish you good luck in your new work.”
Delilah grinned back. “Thank you.”
So, next week, Delilah would start her new job. She wasn’t sure what to expect but she hoped for the best of it.
