The Daily Life Of The Scum - Chapter 67 Day 66
“Sheng er.” Xie Lan called.
It’s the second day and five days to go until the Demonic Sect reaches the Newfound Land.
“Yes?” Chen Sheng answered and turned.
He saw Xie Lan with Fang Wen (this is a given XD), Ming Ye, Luo Shi, Xi Ling, Fei Lin, Fei Huang and a man called ‘Old Lao’, based from the Fei brothers (Fei Lin and Fei Yin).
Although Xie Lan’s face is still covered with mask, Chen Sheng could guess that he’s serious.
“You can’t go with us.” Xie Lan told him.
“Yes?” Chen Sheng said, puzzled.
Li Tian, Feng Mo and Lei Ling, who are listening on the side, turned.
“This disciple doesn’t understand what founder means.” He said. “May founder enlighten this disciple ” he said and was about to bow when Fei Huang cut him off.
“You can’t go with us when we’ll fight the Demonic Sect.” Fei Huang said.
Chen Sheng looked at him.
“They, especially Mu Jie, all are after you.” He said. “We just can’t go and display you in front of them as they hungrily feast their eyes on you like rabid dogs in front of a freshly stewed bone ” he explained, then stopped when Old Lao tapped his shoulder.
He turned, then his face went blank when he saw everybody’s face is crestfallen. He frowned, then walked away.
They’re going to set up layers of barriers around the Newfound Land to protect, not only Chen Sheng but also the Newfound Land’s citizens, from the demonic cultivators.
Ming Ye sighed while Luo Shi is shaking his head. The two elders of the Promising Sect kindly tapped Chen Sheng’s shoulder, consoling him, and followed Fei Huang and Old Lao.
The Promising Sect, although two top elders of theirs are here in the Newfound Land to help, still are strong and have enough hands left to guard their sect (which is in the west of the Demonic Land) against the demonic cultivators.
Wu Fan, Wu Yuan’s father and the Promising Sect leader as well as the Wu family’s head, is also there. Not to mention the Chen family, who are a powerhouse family.
Aside from the three Nascent Soul Stage cultivators both the Chen grandparents and Madame Chen, the Chen Patriarch is, like Wu Fan, in Immortal Stage.
Well, since the demonic cultivators mainly are focused to take Chen Sheng… the Demonic Sect will mostly be focused on the Newfound Land.
Fei Lin nodded at Chen Sheng, assuring him the Upright Sect is supporting them.
Xi Ling smiled at Chen Sheng. “Don’t worry. I know Sheng ge is on his way here to help ” he told him, then he and Fei Lin left to follow Fei Huang and the others.
“Sheng er…” Fang Wen called, worry in his face. “Don’t worry. Even though your father ehem.” He coughed and glanced at Xie Lan, his face red.
His face went redder when he saw Xie Lan is grinning.
He grimaced and turned to his son ehem, Chen Sheng. “Even though we’re not here, but your brothers Yin-er, Tian-er, Mo-er and Ling-er (Lei Ling), together with Junior Fei (Fei Lin) and Junior Xi (Xi Ling), as well as your fellow brothers (Newfound Sect disciples) and Han-er (Chen Han), Yi-er (Sun Yi) and Yuan-er (Wu Yuan), will be here to protect you.” he told him and smiled reassuringly.
“But ” Chen Sheng and was about to object when he was cut off.
“Needless to say, I’ll be by Ah Sheng, and Tian’s, side.” It’s none other than Chen Han, mentioning the two most important persons of his life.
“You can go and protect Brother Li. I’m enough to protect Brother Chen.” And of course, it’s none other than Fei Yin.
He’s frowning at Chen Han.
“Now, now.” it was, as always, the mediator Sun Yi. He tapped Fei Yin and Chen Han’s shoulder as he stood in between the two. “We’re all going to protect Junior Brother Chen. Right?” he asked and turned to the Newfound Sect disciples, their orange robe glowing like a setting sun.
The Newfound Sect disciples are being trained by Sun Yi, Wu Yuan, Fei Yin and Chen Han for the upcoming battle against the demonic cultivators. The four trained them to raise their skills so that they could be qualified enough to fight against a demonic cultivator.
“Yes!” the Newfound Sect disciples answered and looked at Chen Sheng, then they respectfully bowed. “Senior Brother Chen!” they called.
Chen Sheng doesn’t know whether to grimace or smile. In the end, he kept a blank face and just nodded at them.
“Mn.” He just said. He still hasn’t had the chance to ‘reconcile’ with his fellow brothers because of many things that happened all revolving on him.
The thought made him grimace.
Upright Sect.
“It’s really Yu Sheng…!” the people said, looking at Yu Sheng in awe as he passed by the street.
“It’s been a while – !” one of the old men sitting as they drink on the street side said. “How’ve you been?” he asked, smiling brightly as he waved.
Yu Sheng stopped and smiled as he turned to the old man. “I’m doing great.” He said and respectfully bowed.
The old man grinned as he raised a cup to him. Yu Sheng smiled, then continued walking.
“You’re really such a poser.” Zu Zhe commented as he walks behind Yu Sheng.
Even though Yu Sheng told him to walk beside him, but Zu Zhe, a shut in he is, refused and chose to hide behind Yu Sheng.
Yu Sheng looked at him, then grabbed his arm.
Zu Zhe’s eyes went wide when Yu Sheng pulled him towards him. “Ah – !” he exclaimed when he almost tripped.
Luckily, Yu Sheng caught him and he fell on his chest.
‘luckily’? Zu Zhe thought and glared at Yu Sheng. He saw him smiling brightly. Just as he thought, Yu Sheng intentionally pulled him stronger than he intended, resulting to him tripping and falling to Yu Sheng.
Like Zu Zhe thought, he saw people are looking at him when he looked around. His face went red, embarrassed, and lowered his head.
He grimaced when he saw he’s wearing boots and layers of robes. Though he’s not wearing a disciple’s robes, but he’s wearing like the people of this world.
Zu Zhe has been wearing his clothes from his world for days now. Even though the system arranged himself to be clean, including his clothes, but he feels uncomfortable wearing same clothes.
And so he asked to borrow clothes for the meantime.
But, he should’ve known. The clothes here should be totally different from his. And so he’s wearing the same clothes as the people of this world now.
He grimaced, then sighed. “Are you sure you really want to go to the Newfound Sect (East)?” he asked as he looked at Yu Sheng.
Yu Sheng smiled and uttered thanks as he bowed and received a basket of fruits from an old woman.
“Yes.” He answered as they continued to walk. “Even though I know His Highness will be fine since he’s powerful, but ” he said. ” I, his retainer, should be by his hide. A shame, since I’ve been injured back at the YuLing and need to recuperate.” He said and smiled as he turned to Zu Zhe. “Thanks for healing me that time, by the way.” He told him.
Zu Zhe stopped in his tracks.
Yu Sheng stopped, too, as he stared at him. “You don’t have something to say?” he asked when he saw Zu Zhe’s just silent.
“… you’re welcome.” Zu Zhe said and continued to walk, his head hung over his shoulder.
The smile on Yu Sheng’s face vanished as he watches Zu Zhe walk away. His heart felt like it’s being crushed by a titan. He felt like dying just as looking Zu Zhe’s back facing him.
And now… Zu Zhe is walking away from him.
Yu Sheng lowered his head as he was nailed where he’s standing, not moving at all. I want him. He thought, referring to Zu Zhe. I need him. I he thought and raised his face, his vision blurry since his eyes are misty.
Aside from his parents dying, Yu Sheng never once cried again. Living with Zu Zhe for 15 years… he’s the biggest fool if he’d never realize he’s not in love with the guy.
Yu Sheng was about to lower his head when his eyes looked at the ground and saw a pair of familiar boots in front of him.
It was the boots he wore to someone he loves, reverently brushing his lips on the smooth white skin of the person’s feet, earning him kicks from the person.
“What’re you standing here for?” a voice Yu Sheng would never ever dare forget even just a second of his life. “I thought you’re following me. I don’t know this place, you do. Why am I the one walking first instead of you?” he asked and frowned.
Yu Sheng’s crushed heart regenerated 20 mach per second. He sharply raised his face and saw the face of the person he’s living with for the past 15 years, and until now.
“Zhe…” he muttered under his breath as he stared at the hazel brown eyes that’s staring back at him.
Zu Zhe’s forehead knotted, staring at his face. “… are you crying?” he asked after minutes of internal deliberation, wondering if he’s not mistaken that Yu Sheng’s about to cry.
The Yu Sheng is crying? He thought, dark lines covered his face as he mentally shook his head vigorously.
Yu Sheng saw changes of expressions in Zu Zhe’s face. He smiled. “I thought you’re the one who’s crying.” he said, recovering his composure. “You admitted earlier you don’t know the place, so you’re worried you’ll be lost ” he told him and grinned when he saw Zu Zhe frowned.
“Fine. You win.” Zu Zhe said, pouting. “I’m a shut in. I barely, if not never, go out of house.” He explained. “So?” he said and looked up at Yu Sheng. Yu Sheng’s a head taller than him. “I thought you’re hurrying up since you’re going to your master. What’re you wah!” he exclaimed when Yu Sheng bent down and put his hand behind Zu Zhe’s knees, his other hand wrapped around Zu Zhe’s shoulder. He then lifted him up, princess carry style. “W w what’re you – ?!” he asked, his face red.
Yu Sheng smiled. “You’re right. I’ve got no time to waste.” He said as his sword, Perseverance, unsheathed on its own scabbard and floated in front of them. “Hug me tightly, purposive or intentional, since we’re gonna fly.” He said and mounted on his sword.
Before Yu Sheng’s words could sink in Zu Zhe’s mind, Zu Zhe’s eyes went wide and he felt his heart and soul was left on the ground when they were suddenly in the sky, 100 feet from the ground.
“Oh my god…” Zu Zhe muttered under his breath as he immediately clung to Yu Sheng’s neck. Yu Sheng just chuckled when Zu Zhe frowned and hit him.
They then flew their way towards the East.
Newfound Sect.
“Say…” Fang Wen said as he, Xie Lan, and the other elders fly back to the Newfound Sect.
They just finished setting up barriers all around the Newfound Land to prevent malevolent energy go inside the land.
“What?” Xie Lan asked.
Fang Wen looked at him. “Sheng er’s soul is rich in qi, since he’s from BaiLong.” He started. “And a cultivator’s level is based on the soul. So ” he said. ” shouldn’t Sheng er’s level be high now?” he asked.
Silence fell in their groups and they looked at each other.
“Wasn’t it because of Young Shen’s body that’s restricting Young Sheng from using his power?” Ming Ye asked.
They think Chen Sheng is still in Chen Shen’s body. Aside from Mu Xin, Wen Yan and Chen Shen, only Fei Yin knows that Chen Sheng changed to a different body the modified body made by Mu Xin for Chen Shen.
“Shen er’s body is of normal human’s, since he never cultivated using his original body before.” Fei Lin said.
“What if Chen Sheng cultivate now in Chen Shen’s body?” Luo Shi asked.
Their eyes went wide. Before any of them could answer, Fei Huang spoke.
“It’ll die.” he said.
They all turned to him. “What?”
“It’ll die.” Fei Huang repeated.
“‘it’?” they asked.
Fei Huang turned to them. “Chen Sheng is a soul that possessed Chen Shen’s body.” He said. “If his strong soul would cultivate in a normal person’s (not a cultivator) body, what do you think will happen?” he asked.
A deafening silence fell.
Cultivation is to strengthen one’s soul. And since one’s soul, after cultivating, became strong, he lives longer than normal people who doesn’t cultivate their soul. That is why cultivators sometimes called as ‘immortals’, since they could live for hundreds of years.
Thousands…? No one proven it yet.
But, when cultivating, not only the soul will be stronger but also the body, too. The reason of this is because the body (vessel) the soul that was cultivated should be the same strength as the soul.
This adds to another difference between cultivators and normal people.
So if a strong soul, like Chen Sheng, should inhabit Chen Shen’s body that’s of normal people’s, his soul’s strength would be restricted.
Well, this is the first case. The second case is that, if that soul will continue to be restricted… the body will explode like a watermelon that was split during summer.
This’ll happen to Chen Shen’s body if Chen Sheng will cultivate in Chen Shen’s body. Furthermore, since Chen Sheng’s soul is extremely strong, who knows how many seconds before Chen Shen’s body will explode?
Or… it’ll only last a half second.
Thinking this, the elders immediately flew back to the Newfound Sect. All, except Fei Huang and Old Lao who was behind the group.
“You should’ve noticed, right?” Fei Huang asked to Lao.
Old Lao didn’t answer.
“Chen Sheng’s body isn’t the same anymore. Where did he get it?” he asked and looked at the veiled man.
“Mu Jie’s son, Mu Xin.” Old Lao answered. “He has a talent, but will never use that talent again.”
“Why?”
“The purpose for that talent of his is already finished.” Old Lao answered.
Fei Huang’s face is serious. If this man just hasn’t told him Chen Sheng doesn’t inhabit Chen Shen’s body anymore, he, like the others, also wouldn’t notice the change in Chen Sheng.
“Xie Lan doesn’t want Chen Sheng to participate in the fight against the demonic cultivators.” Fei Huang said as they slowly follow the others.
“You said it yourself. We can’t just show them the bait, knowing the ones after the bait outnumbers the ones holding the bait.” Old Lao explained.
“But ” Fei Huang said. ” he may have the power to defeat them (demonic cultivators) in just a flash.” He told him.
“His (Chen Sheng) power is still unknown.” Old Lao said. “He may be able to defeat the enemies, but we might get caught in his power.” He explained. “Since he still hasn’t used his power, even he doesn’t know how powerful he is. You sure want to bet on that uncertain power of his?” he asked.
Fei Huang frowned. “No.” he answered. “I’m still sure of myself that I’m capable of handling a thousand or two of those damn dogs (demonic cultivators).” He told him, then flew first.
A second later and he heard a laugh behind him, a man in veil flying after him.
