The Daily Life Of The Scum - Chapter 68 Day 67
Chen Sheng slowly walked over the corpses, the malevolent energy in the air parting. He looked around and saw the Newfound Sect disciples, along with Sun Yi, Wu Yuan, Chen Han, Li Tian, Feng Mo, Wu Bai, Lei Ling, Wen Yan and Fei Yin all are lying on the ground, unconscious.
Yes. They’re still not dead yet. They’re only unconscious, yet badly wounded.
Chen Sheng heard a fizz, and so he turned. He saw Li Shan breathing heavily glaring at him, limping since he’s also wounded.
His head is bleeding and his one leg is broken.
“Hou… Sheng…” Li Shan called, gritting his teeth as malevolent energy covered his body. His eyes are glowing red.
Yes. Li Shan is a demonic cultivator, which nobody expected not even Mu Xin, Wen Yan, nor Chen Shen, who are of Demonic Sect’s.
“… you’re dying.” Chen Sheng said, his face blank, as he looks at the qi energy both life and malevolent energy, inside Li Shan’s body.
His qi is all in disarray for unknown reason.
“Hmph.” Li Shan scoffed. “If I am, then you’ll be.” He said and glared at Chen Sheng as he evilly grinned, malice flashed across his eyes. “I’ll dragging you to hell with me – !” he yelled and ran towards Chen Sheng’s who’s just standing motionless outside the wrecked Newfound Sect, his friends behind him.
Chen Sheng didn’t even flinch and just waited until Li Shan reached him.
How did everything come to this?
8 hours earlier.
The sun still hasn’t rose behind the mountains yet everybody has their hands full. But, even so, their actions are unhurried and their face solemn.
The Demonic Sect will be arriving any time now, so there’s no time to waste. The elders and sect leaders all have already left an hour ago, going to the village which is the border of Newfound Land and Demonic Land.
But, even if it’s a village, there’s almost none living there. None, except the watchers of the Newfound Land that’d alarm them if something is approaching the land.
“Senior Brother Chen.” Lei Ling said when he saw him walking towards them. Wen Yan just looked at Chen Sheng.
Everybody turned.
“Senior Brother Chen!” the disciples exclaimed, surprised.
“Brother Chen…” Li Tian and Feng Mo called.
“Junior Brother Chen.” Sun Yi said, a faint smile on his lips. Wu Yuan’s just looking at Chen Sheng with his usual blank face
“Ah Sheng…” Chen Han called.
Chen Sheng looked at them all, then bowed. “Morning.” He greeted, purposefully didn’t say the word ‘good’, since they all knew nothing good will happen because the Demonic Sect is approaching.
“Brother Chen.” It was Fei Yin. “The sun still hasn’t risen. It still isn’t the time for you to wake ” he said.
Chen Sheng cut him off. “I shouldn’t even blink, since I’m the one that the enemy’s after, and so I’m endangering everybody.” He said and looked outside.
Despite it’s still near dawn, yet the Newfound Land is empty. For the past few days, the citizens are leaving the Newfound Land.
Well, again. This is the second time this happens. The first is when the Newfound Land was attacked by ‘Yu Sheng’, but turned out it was Mu Jie’s doing.
Well… again. The disciples escorted the last batch of the citizens yesterday. They’re all going to the North where the Upright Sect is, to seek refuge. They can’t go to the Promising Land, like last time, since there’s also a chance for the Promising Land to be attacked too because it’s on the west side of the Demonic Land. (Newfound Sect is on the east side)
“Brother Chen. That’s not ” Li Tian said.
“What’s not what?” Chen Sheng cut him off. He looked at them. “Yes. Though I still don’t know what’s happening, but I’m not an idiot. I know the demonic cultivators are after me.” he told them.
They didn’t answer.
He continued. “I may have forgotten it, but now I remember that this is also the cause of the first attack in the Newfound Lan and Newfound Sect. Well, again.” he said. “And… I’m the cause. Again.” he added.
Silence fell.
“Since you already know it, then what are you still doing here?” it was Wu Yuan.
They all looked at him.
“It’s better if you’d stay away and don’t be a hindrance to us.” he said, his face blank, as always.
“Senior Brother Wu!” Li Tian and Feng Mo exclaimed, shocked and offended.
But, Sun Yi, Chen Han and Fei Yin are just silent. Even Lei Ling.
Wen Yan is also silent, but that’s because he’s got nothing to do with them.
Chen Sheng looked at Wu Yuan who’s looking back at him. “I will.” He answered, his face serious.
“Brother Chen!” Li Tian and Feng Mo said, surprised.
“It’s not as if I’m scared.” Chen Sheng said, sighing. “I already told you. I’m not an idiot. Me going outside will just increase the danger.” He told them, then slowly but quietly walked away. He’s going back to his room. “I’ll be making talismans enough to protect myself.” He said. “Brother Lei.” He called. “Please get some talismans from me later. At least in this, I could help you.” He finished and left.
“Yes!” Lei Ling answered and respectfully bowed.
Silence fell when Chen Sheng was gone.
Fei Yin decided to break the silence. “Everyone.” He called and turned to them. “Like we’ve planned, go to your appointed coordinates.” He told them.
“Yes!” the disciples answered and immediately ran outside, going to their respected stations.
“Then, we’ll be going as planned.” Sun Yi said and walked away. Wu Yuan silently followed him, as if nothing happened earlier.
“Tian and I will be outside.” Chen Han said and nodded at the ones left. He grabbed Li Tian who looked as if unwilling to leave, worry on his face.
“I’ll be dropping by Senior Brother Chen’s room later to pick up the talismans.” Lei Ling said and respectfully bowed to Fei Yin. He smiled, then glanced at Wen Yan, who just nodded at Fei Yin.
The two of them left.
“Brother Fei.” Feng Mo called.
Fei Yin looked at him.
“I’ll just be at the backyard. Just call me if there’s something you need.” He told Fei Yin and bowed.
“Will you be really alright?” Fei Yin asked.
Among their group, Feng Mo chose to be singled out.
Feng Mo slightly smiled. “B… Wu Bai will be with me.” he answered.
Yesterday, after the last batch of the citizens were evacuated, Wu Bai the mysterious tutor of Feng Mo, came at the doorstep of the Newfound Sect and said he’ll be staying with his tutee.
For an educator, that’s understandable. But, why does everyone has a feeling it’s more than that…?
Fei Yin sighed and nodded. Feng Mo bowed once again and left. Wu Bai was already in the backyard, waiting for his tutee.
Fei Yin looked around the hall after everyone left. This is the place where he stayed for more than 15 years. Aside from protecting Sheng, his friends, and their master and the founder of the sect.
This place where Sheng and he met… he’ll protect it at all costs.
Newfound Land last village (the border).
The wind blew and Fang Wen slowly looked back. He saw an invisible wall of sphere lit up behind them when a black mist touched it.
“They’re here…” he muttered and looked around the swirling malevolent energy around them.
Although just a step away from the Newfound Sect, but right now they’re setting foot on the Demonic Land.
The Demonic Land, as the name suggests, it’s where the malevolent energy is intense. Although the Newfound Land and Promising Land is right beside it, they’re doubling the already erected barrier now because the forces of the demonic cultivators are approaching the borders.
Everybody’s face went serious when they saw a large group, their line stretched up to both ends, where as far as they could see.
“Seems like they’re going to attack the Promising Land, too.” Ming Ye said.
“Of course.” Luo Shi said. “These tricksters won’t let anything pass. As long as they could wipe out all of us Righteous cultivators, they’ll do everything they could so that they’ll conquer the world.” He said, frowning.
“Uhm… I’m here…” Mu Xin said and forced a smile. Chen Shen beside him grimaced.
Ming Ye uttered an apology, smiling awkwardly while Luo Shi just coldly scoffed.
Fei Lin sighed while Xi Ling grimaced. Fang Wen forced a smile while Xie Lan’s face cannot be read because he’s wearing a mask.
“He’s here.” Fei Huang said, his face serious.
Everybody turned, including Old Lao the man wearing a hat with veil that’s covering his face.
Mu Jie is sitting on the chair that’s lifted by the other demonic cultivators, sitting like a king.
Well, a king of only the demonic cultivators.
“Oh?” Mu Jie said and made his lackeys stop. He’s not far from Fei Huang and the others. “I thought, since you all already knew we’re coming and going to attack you, as well as you know my purpose… why the small welcoming party for me?” he asked and looked at the ten gentlemen before him.
Three are sect leaders (Fei Huang, Xie Lan and Mu Xin former), five elders (Fang Wen, Fei Lin, Xi Ling, Ming Ye and Luo Shi) and two are undetermined (Chen Shen and Old Lao).
“We’re enough for you.” Fei Huang said. “All of you.” He added, looking at the thousands of demonic cultivators standing behind Mu Jie.
Mu Jie’s brows raised, but he didn’t speak. He jumped down and stood straight, looking squarely at the ten gentlemen before him.
“Wait.” Mu Xin said, realizing something.
The others looked at him.
“Where’s… Li Shan?” he asked as he looked around his father, Mu Jie, but didn’t saw even a shadow of Li Shan. He already noticed this earlier, but since he’s preoccupied because of the tension, he missed Li Shan.
Their blood ran cold when they saw Mu Jie smiled. Their eyes narrowed as they unsheathed their sword.
“Ahahaha… ahahahahahaha! Ahahahahahahaha!” Mu Jie laughed, holding his head that’s facing the sky. “Yes! What you think is right!” he said, veins on his eyes as he crazily looked at them.
The others stared at Mu Jie in disbelief, fear eating their heart.
“Yes!” Mu Jie said and evilly grinned. “He sneaked inside the Newfound Land, like what he did months ago!” he told them and laughed. He’s referring to when the Newfound Land was first attacked.
“No…” Fang Wen said and was about to leave when Xie Lan immediately caught his arm. He turned and was about to say something when he saw the barrier.
His mouth fell open, shocked, when he saw the barrier was covered with malevolent energy.
“When…?” Xi Ling asked, dumbfounded, as they all stared, aghast, at the malevolent energy trying to devour the barrier.
The ground shook violently when the malevolent energy started to pound the barrier. Alarm flashed in their eyes.
“Calm down.” Fei Huang told them.
They looked at him.
“Aren’t you all the ones who personally created the barrier?” he asked them. “You should know how strong the barrier is.” He told them.
They all nodded, their anxiousness subsided.
Mu Jie frowned when he saw the gentlemen before him had calm down. “Hmph.” He scoffed. “As expected of the sect leader of the top sect.” he said, frowning at Fei Huang. “That may be so, but let’s see how long your barrier will last.” He grinned.
Their face went serious.
“Uncle.” Fei Lin called. “Li Shan’s inside.” He told him.
“I know.” Fei Huang said. “That rat… he sneaked in again.” he said, gritting his teeth.
“… I really should go back ” Fang Wen said, worry all over his face.
“Don’t ” Xie Lan said.
Fang Wen looked at him, tears forming in his eyes.
“They’ll be alright.” He assured his wife. “Yin er, Tian er, Mo er… his elder brother Chen Han, and his senior brothers Sun Yi and Wu Yuan… as well as his brothers and Lei Ling… everyone’s there for Sheng er.” He said. “They’ll be alright.” He told him and smiled.
Fang Wen’s eyes went wide and he nodded, wiping his tears.
Xie Lan smiled again. “Also…” he said.
‘also’? The others that are listening to Xie Lan’s speech.
“Don’t you want to take revenge to these bastards for attacking not only our home, but our children as well and targeting Sheng er… not only once, but twice?” He asked and coldly grinned at the demonic cultivators.
Those that saw Xie Lan’s murderous glare subconsciously stepped back.
“You’re right.” Fang Wen said, sniffing, as he wiped his tears. “I should never let anyone who bullies the children get away, whoever they are.” He said and lowered his head.
Xie Lan smiled and nodded, agreeing.
“Uhm…” Chen Shen said as he looks at Fang Wen who’s silent. “Uhm… something’s… something’s…” he said, didn’t continue as a shiver ran down his spine when Fang Wen lifted his face slowly.
He gulped when he saw Fang Wen’s murderous glare as he looked at the demonic cultivators, a bright orange aura coming out of him Xie Lan, together with Ming Ye and Luo Shi who’re beside him, jumped away when the aura almost burned their sleeves that’s just an inch away.
“Something really is not right with him…” Chen Shen muttered and gulped as Fang Wen’s robe fluttered because of the aura he’s exerting.
“Mn.” Mu Xin nodded, looking at Fang Wen when Fang Wen’s sword glowed the same color as his aura.
“Aia…” Xie Lan said, smiling brightly.
Ming Ye and Luo Shi grimaced at the sight of their junior brother. Fei Lin and Xi Ling’s face is puzzled, while Old Lao and Fei Huang are just blank faced.
Though they don’t know what happened to Fang Wen, but they knew his change will help them.
“… what happened to him?” Mu Jie asked, his forehead knotted when he saw Fang Wen’s eyes are glowing.
Xie Lan grinned. “Nothing. Just…” he said, his grin went wider. “… you just awaken the most overprotective mother in this world.” He answered and looked proudly at his wife.
Mu Jie frowned, but didn’t comment. “Hmph.” He scoffed. “Let’s see, then, if you’ll all last ” he said.
He was cut off when a long, blazing fire passed on his left, an inch away from his sleeve. After a second, a loud explosion can be heard followed by cries of the demonic cultivators.
Mu Jie turned, wide eyed, when half of the demonic cultivators on his left flank are charred to death. “What the ” he said, shocked, and sharply turned to Fang Wen who, still, are burning, literally.
Except Xie Lan, Ming Ye and Luo Shi, the others are as shocked as Mu Jie.
“How the hell is he that strong?” Chen Sheng asked, gaping.
“I thought he’s mid level Nascent Soul cultivator.” Xi Ling said.
Xie Lan smiled. “No…” he said. “He’s always on the peak level of Nascent Soul Stage. And now…” he said and looked at his wife. “… he broke through.” He told them.
Their eyes went wide, shocked.
“You mean…” Mu Xin said.
“Yes.” It was Ming Ye. “There’re two Immortal Stage cultivators in the Newfound Sect.” he told them.
Their jaw dropped. There’s nothing in the history that there are two Immortal Stage cultivators in a sect.
They all stared at Fang Wen, wide eyed.
“… nobody hurts my children.” Fang Wen said and glared at Mu Jie.
Another blast hit and charred half of the demonic cultivators on the side.
The author (and Chen Sheng ft. Fang Wen) has something to say:
Gray Dragon: waaa! Mama Wen is scary! >.<
Chen Sheng: … *stare
