The Darker the Night, The Brighter the Stars - Chapter 67:Wedding Wine
For a while, the womenfolk were full of admiration, and the young boys came back to their senses, with envy and sigh in their hearts.
Sure enough, the woman that Prince Jing married would not be bad in appearance. They really felt angry when they thought about it, there was such a beauty that they were unaware of and had been intercepted long ago before they saw her.
The new Princess Consort surprised the people around, even the Matron of Honor was overjoyed, and was immediately full of auspicious words and came over with a wedding wine. However, before they could witness this, the doors to the bridal room were closed and blocked by the guards, stunning the crowd.
It would seem that Prince Jing wanted to keep the lovely bride all to himself. But no one dared to protest since they were very intimidated by the guards that looked like elite soldiers and were carrying swords on their waist.
In the bridal chamber, Zhao Yan exhaled nervously. Fu Yanqing sat next to her. He didn’t touch the wedding wine. Si Yao entered and bowed before them before taking those away.
Zhao Yan’s eyes widened.
Fu Yanqing smiled at her. “Drinking wine is not good for the child. We can hold another wedding later and exchange our wedding wine once you have recovered from giving birth.”
Zhao Yan was actually going to ask him if she could avoid drinking the wedding wine but since he already chose to forego the idea, she was filled with relief. “Thank you, Your Highness. I am grateful… I..”
Fu Yanqing placed a finger on her mouth, silencing her.
“We are already a married couple. From now on, you are my wife and I am your husband. You need to change the way you address me.”
Zhao Yan also realized this and she nodded in understanding. “Then, I should call you husband from now on.” She said while smiling.
Fu Yanqing saw her smiling face that was filled with tenderness, making him relaxed slightly. He couldn’t help but caress her cheek and stroke them lightly with his thumb.
His little woman was finally wed to him. This time, she was really his, there was no going back now.
“My wife, you have honored me by agreeing to this marriage. I will do my best to treat you well.” He said in a saccharine tone, looking at her with a soft gaze in his clear black eyes.
Zhao Yan was a little dazed. She gulped nervously and lowered her gaze. Fu Yanqing felt a little helpless when he saw this. His little woman was like a little white rabbit shying away from him. When did her courage go when she dared to say that she would agree to marry him, share his joy, glory, and sorrows?
He couldn’t help but remember the time where she hounded with questions and fled in embarrassment, ducking under the covers of her quilt. His little woman was embarrassed. His thumb that was stroking the soft skin with a pink hue felt warm.
Fortunately, the commotion outside snapped him from his thoughts.
….
Fu Yanqing glanced at the door, frowning.
Zhao Yan also followed his line of vision. Although the six ceremonies had been completed and she was now the Princess Consort, the current situation did not give her any time to rest or be bashful.
Since she was going to appear as Princess Consort for the first time, she needs to muster her courage and show them that she could not be looked down upon.
Zhao Yan was a little worried.
In all her life, this would be the third time she would show herself in a social gathering. The first and second social gathering she attended was hosted in Prince Li’s mansion and she barely made an appearance because her father and sisters told her to hide or else she might disgrace them.
But, if she were to hide again now, then what would await her would be a bleak future. Although Fu Yanqing as the prince regent, this powerful political figure was now her husband, she could not rely on him all the time and become burdensome.
If she, the Princess Consort did not even go out to greet and entertain the guests, wouldn’t that be losing face for the Empress Dowager and her husband?
