The Demon Child Awakening - Volume 8
“So Lance of Daishin, please elaborate your claim that Frau Verl is innocent,”
Lance gulped. “Very well. As most of you know, my soul ability is to read minds in the present time, and I have seen that unlike the rest of the royal bloodline, she was in fact peaceful all throughout the struggles of the rest, I didn’t hear her yelling, she was the only one dormant,”
“That is not enough evidence, if we tell the people that we let a royal go free, they’ll be outrage, what we are trying to change to a democracy will be ruined!” A judge yelled.
“That might be true, but may I remind you that Frau is in fact, a bastard, and by the twelfth king of Onsice, Blau, he put it in stone via a vote of all the nobles at that time, that any illegible children, which includes bastards, banished royals, and many others cannot take the throne, and since she is a bastard, she cannot take the throne,”
“No one would care about that,” The third judge said. “She could take the throne, and nobles who have surrendered would immediately rise up, and we would have a civil war on our hands, with armies all across Onsice fighting,”
Lance sighed. “She would not take the throne, hating her family, being used by them, in fact, she was used as a slave by the first princess, and was abused by her,”
“You have no proof!” The second judge yelled.
“I do!” Lance turned me around and ripped of the back of my cloth, tearing through the bandages he had given me just hours before. My black back was shown to the entire judges, and the jury box, they all gasped, as Lance took of his blazer and put it over me, saying sorry.
“Her skin is charred black! Only someone who is insane could do it themselves, and the minds of someone insane is unreadable, the first princess Lieder burned her skin, causing scars! She is innocent!”
“You could be lying!” The first judge yelled.
“…Very well, I call upon Sashal Blutrot to judge me!”
A woman from the jury box stood up, wings grew from her back, and she flew down to Lance, facing him. She raised her right hand, blood began to flow from her nails, and it encircled Lance’s neck, the ring of blood then grew daggers, circling clockwise, getting faster.
Lance looked at Sashal as she looked at him, the ring began to slow down, and the blood went back into her fingertips. His face became whiter, and she turned to the judges, nodding.
“Very well, we hereby label Frau Verl, the last royal, not guilty!” Three wooden hammers hit the wood and the court was over. Lance faced me, and left, smiling. As everyone left, the woman who proved my innocence, Sashal, came up to me, and asked me to follow her.
As my saviour, I did as she asked, following her into a room, which seemed to be a guest room near to the castle, which was destroyed. Sashal led me into her room, which already seemed personalized, it was then when I asked her a question.
“Why did you help me?” I asked Sashal.
She sighed, slowly turning into her human for Sasha. “Lance wanted to help you, saying that you wouldn’t try any sort of shenanigans,”
“… Before you go on, I wanted to talk to you, but why couldn’t I until now?”
“My soul ability is to copy others, and I know yours is to control people, I ordered you to follow me and stay quite, revealing that when under its effect, the edges of your eyes glow,”
“Believe if you might, but I only gained my soul ability only last night, I experienced an event that caused an emotion, one that I almost ever felt before, especially on that level,”
Sashal was beginning to walk, heating up a pot of tea with her fire. “Oh, and what would that emotion be,”
I walked up to her, taking control of the flames, heating the tea even better. “… It was love, Lance showed kindness to me, something that I never had felt before, I might break out of it now since i’m free, but I don’t want to,”
“We’ll see, but you see Frau, I want you to take something off me,” Sashal sat on her bed.
“And what would that be?” I got a bag of teabags and I found two teacups, pouring the hot water in and bringing them to Sasha.
“My work here is to help with Onsice with its shift to a democracy, it’s war,”
“The other countries which Onsice has constantly attacked for decades, they now have power, and we are going to be under attack when the information gets out,”
“What do you want me to do?”
“I want you to vouch for my vote when it comes to matters concerning war, would you do that, for me?”
I gulped. “As you wish, I will vouch for you when it comes to war,”
“Very well, now go to sleep,”
Sashal’s eyes glowed for a second, and I went to sleep. Awaking in the morning to a bright light and the sound of curtains, I saw that Sasha had placed me on her couch. I slowly got up, and thanked her, but before I could leave, she redid my bandages and gave me a black dress with red details.
I then left and made my way towards the war room. I heard people talking about me, about how I cheated death, but I still believed I could do a good job. I turned around a corner and bumped into the shoulder of someone.
Looking up, I saw Lance wearing a similar fashion to mine, he smiled as I backed away.
“I see you’re doing well,” He smiled.
“You too,” I was thinking that my soul ability manifested because of him.
“Did you try summoning your incarnate weapon yet,”
“Dammit, I forgot you can read minds,”
I turned around and followed behind him, talking to him. “Should I try?”
“You should, like right now, although your wooden weapon you summon is different, so try,”
I breathed in, beginning to summon my incarnate weapon. After the light faded, what held in my hand was a crimson cutlass, with the hilt almost identical to Lance’s blades which he had on him constantly.
“A red cutlass, I don’t know if your a pirate but oh well, let’s get to the war room,”
I looked at him for a moment more. “Yeah, let’s”
Yesterday marked a new life for me, being saved, falling in love, and now taking part in war. I Frau Verl, only known to the maids, and even then they spit on me, is alive. If my blood couldn’t end my life, then nothing can, I am free of my heritage, and now I can look forward without regret.
