The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 292
Juin never got the chance to check it out.
When he blinked and opened his eyes again, he was already on the top of the volcano.
“Oh, sh*t!” Upon seeing the depth of the volcano, he quickly took a step back, joining his teammates who had already reacted way before him.
“Boy, it’s hot!” Wolfe was already sweating by now.
Luca agreed. He then called upon his wind power, but the heat generated by the volcano was stronger than his simple wind spell, and it only made him feel hotter.
Juin got down on his knees and crawled toward the edge of the volcano. To avoid any sudden splash, he activated his soul shield before peering in. After all, this volcano was not named The Doomed Volcano for nothing.
“It’s not active at the moment… It’s not even that scary,” Juin mumbled as he looked at the lava that was bubbling a few hundred meters inside the volcano. He then looked at Luca and said, “Do you think we can travel down now?”
Luca peered in and shrugged. “Might as well. We don’t know how long it would stay dormant for. I don’t want to be here when it becomes active…”
“But is there any treasure down there?” Wolfe asked, looking in as well. “It looks like it would burn everything that falls in…”
“Well, it–” Juin was about to say something when he noticed that Wolfe’s shirt was gone, and the guy’s tanned abs were right in front of him. “What the heck, man?”
“It’s hot!”
Juin sighed and turned away. He then said, “We can test it out… Luca took so many treasures from the treasury just now, I’m sure we can drop something in.”
“This is just a simple water bead used to keep a gallon of water. I took a few just in case…”
“And now is the ‘just in case’ situation,” Juin said, signaling to the volcano. “Please drop it in…”
With a sigh, Luca stepped closer to the edge of the volcano and peered in. The bubbling lava looked so peaceful compared to the horror that the Crown Prince told him about it. “Here goes…” he mumbled, activating his soul shield before dropping the bead in.
All three of them watched as the bead took its time to fall into the bubbling lava. Perhaps it was their anticipation and excitement, but it seemed that the bead was taking a longer than possible time to make its way down to the bottom of the volcano where the lava was waiting to devour it.
“Come on!” Juin murmured.
“Move faster!” Wolfe g.r.o.a.n.e.d as he looked down.
And when the bead was about to reach the bottom of the volcano…
WHOOSH!
“F*ck!”
“What the…”
They looked up. The walls of burning lava seemed to be reaching for the sky, but suddenly, it fell down again.
“Careful of the splashes!” Juin warned as he activated his soul shield to the max.
The other two did the same, and thankfully they reacted quickly enough for the walls of burning lava did not come down the way it went up. On its way down, the burning lava splashed all over them. And the whole process did not end quickly.
“Argh…” Wolfe g.r.o.a.n.e.d as he tried to maintain his focus while the lava beat down on his soul shield, making seconds feel like years. “This soul shield is only stopping it from burning me, but the heat… F*ck my life! I feel like I’m in a burning oven!”
Juin looked at him, then at Luca, whose contorted facial expression and heavy sweating told him that he was experiencing the terrible heat from the lava. As for he himself, he could feel the heat, but it was nothing more than what he would feel on a hot day.
“It’s a trick…”
When the wall of lava was finally gone, Lucifer’s voice suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Juin looked up and saw that Lucifer was standing right above the volcano, peering in with a sneer. He did not even realize that Lucifer had left his body.
“Trick?”
Lucifer pointed down at the lava that had gone back to being a calm pond of lava. “The wall of lava was a front, to stop people from seeing what really happened to the things that they threw in. You guys flinched because of the lava, but it couldn’t do anything to me, so I just went through it.”
Juin looked in, but he did not see anything that was different from before. In fact, there was barely any hint of what had just happened. “I don’t get it…”
“There’s something in the lava… No, to be more precise, there’s something living in the walls of the volcano. I saw a dark shadowy hand reach out and pull the bead in. I think it’s the same thing that sent those walls of lava up at you guys. It knows that you guys are here, that’s for sure.”
As the walls of lava shot up earlier, blocking everyone’s view, they did not block his. He saw it clear as day, just as the bead was inches away from the pool of lava, a vine like hand shot out and snatched the bead back.
Everything happened in less than a split second.
“So you’re saying that there’s a powerful creature down there that grabs treasures?” Juin mumbled.
Wolfe and Luca exchanged glances.
“Alright…” Juin suddenly said.
Just as Wolfe and Luca started feeling better and were about to loosen up their soul shields, he took a piece of Atlantean bread from his backpack and threw it down into the pool of lava.
“What the f*ck, man?!” Wolfe snapped before quickly stepping back, pulling Luca back with him. When he saw Juin just stand there without moving an inch, he reached out to pull him back, but Juin refused to budge.
“It’s fine,” Juin said as he narrowed his eyes and stared at the piece of bread that was near the pool. He was ready to call upon his soul shield at any time.
