The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 303
Ignoring Luca, who was in deep thought, perhaps trying to look for a good comeback, Juin turned his gaze to the ring that he caught a few seconds ago.
He turned the gold ring that had intricate characters carved onto it and thought for a while. Looking up at Eranos, he then asked, “King Eranos, you said that you played with them. Does that mean that you have tested all these items out? In that case, do you know what these items can do?”
Eranos nodded. “Most of them anyway. Like the one that you are holding. I got it a few hundred years ago. It can call upon lightning, but the power is too weak. It’s more for show than to be used in a real battle.”
He then explained each and every ring that Juin showed him, until the last one. An inconspicuous black ring with a single red gem on it.
“This one?” Juin asked, pointing at the black ring that he pulled out from the bottom of the pile. He then picked it up and weighed it on his palm. The ring felt heavier than the rest, which was weird, considering how light it looked.
The weirdest part was, when he held it in his hand, he felt something strange within it.
‘
“Save me… Save me…”
“What?” Juin mumbled and looked up. He looked around, first at Lucifer, then Eranos and Luca. But they weren’t looking at him. He then thought, “Is it the one inside me?”
Before he could investigate further, another voice came from behind them.
“Urgh… What happened?”
The voice caused everyone’s attention to be diverted to the person who had been sleeping the whole time.
“My body…” Wolfe g.r.o.a.n.e.d as he rubbed his back and sat up. “It felt like I was thrown into a wall…”
“Close enough,” Juin thought with a wry smile.
When Wolfe looked up, he saw Luca and Juin crouching in front of a pile of treasures, and in between them, there was a line of… different types of rings. He then looked at the other guy who he had not seen before and was sitting on the elevated chair like a monarch.
“Who is that?”
“He’s King Eranos… It’s a long story,” Juin said. He then cleared his throat and continued, “Come here, Wolfe…”
Wolfe slowly got up and walked toward them, occasionally rubbed his shoulder to alleviate the pain that he could not remember how he got them.
“Hummph!”
When Wolfe was right in front of them, Eranos humphed and showed a look of disgust at him for reasons unknown.
“Err…” Wolfe gulped and crouched down next to Juin. “Did I piss him off earlier?”
“Sort of…” Juin enlightened him as to what happened earlier, “You bit him…”
“I did?” Wolfe gasped.
“Yeah, don’t you remember?”
Wolfe thought about it before shaking his head. “Not really.”
He then looked at Luca, whose usually clean and pristine clothes were covered in dust, and some parts of it were torn. He then looked at Juin, who looked tired and listless.
“Did you guys fight again?” he asked while looking at the person who was most likely the culprit.
“Why are you looking at me?!” Luca snapped at Wolfe and rolled his eyes.
“It’s not Luca, this time,” Juin said, trying to stop them from starting an argument at this juncture. He looked at Wolfe and said, “We are in a hurry, so just keep up for now. I’ll explain it to you later.”
Juin then turned his gaze back on Eranos, and as he looked at the King of Leaf Giants, he asked politely while holding up the palm with the ring, “King Eranos, what about this one?”
“That…” Eranos narrowed his eyes at the black ring that gleamed slightly under the sunlight and frowned. “I actually don’t remember using it before.”
He sent a thin branch out from the tree to the front of Juin, who understood his meaning and placed the ring on the end of the branch, which had curled up. Like a wearer, the branch moved back to the front of the king.
Eranos reached out and picked up the ring. He turned it around on his palm as he tried to recall the past. “I have forgotten about the passage of time, but I think I received this a long time ago. I tried to activate it, but… This is weird, really.”
Eranos frowned before throwing the ring back to Juin. He then stood up and paced about for a few seconds. “I remember that when I first got this ring, it was because I felt a strong aura coming from it. With my bloodline, I can sense the happening around the opening of the dimension, and at that time, I felt a strong, almost unparalleled power near me, so I sent my Vine Hands to grab it. But when I brought it over, that ring there…”
He looked at the ring on Juin’s hand and said with a serious expression, “When I first brought it over, it exuded a blast of aura before turning into that black ring that has no aura whatsoever. I would have thrown it away, but for some reason, I kept hearing a voice telling me not to do it.”
“You heard the voice too?!” Juin blurted out in surprise, causing everyone to turn and look at him with curious gazes.
“What do you mean by that?” Luca asked.
“I can hear it too… The ring. Someone was repeating ‘Save me’ over and over again,” Juin said. He passed the ring to Luca and said, “See if you can hear it too…”
Luca held the ring in his palm, and he tried to insert his soul power into the ring, but he couldn’t hear anything.
“Wolfe, you try,” he then said and passed the ring to Wolfe.
Wolfe did the same thing, but he quickly shook his head as well. “Nothing… But…”
“What?”
“I smelled something from it,” he said, passing the ring back to Juin.
“What? I can’t smell anything.”
“It’s weak… Almost non-existent… But I smelled it nevertheless,” Wolfe said with a slight frown. He looked at the ring that was now in Juin’s hand and hesitated for a moment before saying, “For a moment, it smelled like Crown Prince Warrick.”
