The Demon Kings Cowardly Vessel - Chapter 319
They then picked up Cyrus, who had been locked in a spell-enhanced room on account of him wreaking havoc everywhere upon waking up, and after Juin consoled him for a while, he finally calmed down and obediently followed the boys after yelling at Warrick and Master Shawn of what seemed like extreme profanities in his own animal-like language.
Within a few hours’ time, they were ready to leave Arconia.
To their surprise, their mode of transportation was a ship.
“I would think that we would be traveling with a submarine,” Juin remarked as he looked out at the vast sea from the ship. It was a traditional ship, one that looked like those huge pirate sh.i.p.s in movies, except that it was cleaner and the figurehead was a sea serpent.
And that it was not moved by wind.
The black and brown ship wasn’t that big by Earth standard, but it was definitely moving a lot faster than the sh.i.p.s on Earth. And it was smooth sailing all the way, with barely a bump to be felt.
“I don’t think these people even need a submarine,” Wolfe said as he looked at a school of flying black fish. “I think Warrick is just too lazy to travel underwater, or he was thinking about us. After all, if we were to travel for a long time underwater, we would be fully exhausted before we could even reach our destination. Besides…”
He looked down at the lower deck where a group of Wisterion ship workers was controlling the speed of the ship by controlling the waves. Diagrams after diagrams appeared in front of those men one after another non-stop. “We move a lot faster this way,” Wolfe continued after a shrug.
Juin looked at him. He then looked at Cyrus, who was leaning against the rail and enjoying the wind.
“Hmm…” Juin c.o.c.ked his head and thought, ‘These two… kinda look like puppies…’
In his mind, their heads were replaced by the heads of a cheetah and a brown Newfoundland who had their tongues out and ears flying behind.
‘I’m sorry, Cecile,’ Juin thought as he looked out at the flying fish. ‘I can’t help you any further… Please be safe.’
“Hey…” Luca suddenly walked to Juin and asked, “Did you realize that Warrick age quite a bit?”
Juin nodded. “But he said he’s tired…”
“That’s too much for only a few days…” Luca said. “And I was thinking… He’s the one who activated the portal… But he said that…”
“I know what he said,” Juin interrupted. “But I don’t think he’s King Adam’s illegitimate child, if that’s what you are thinking about…”
Luca thought about it for a while. Leaning against the railing with his arms folded, he then shook his head. “You’re right, I don’t think he’s that closely related to the late king.”
“I’m the illegitimate descendant of King Arcon.”
All the boys turned to look at Warrick, who had walked out of the ship lounge with Master Shawn behind him.
“Illegitimate descendant?” Wolfe asked curiously.
“King Arcon?” Luca frowned. “The first king of Terre D’eau?”
“King Arcon… He was kind of a s.l.u.t…” Warrick smiled wryly and shrugged. “It’s not a proud thing to brag about, so my ancestors kept it a secret. Right now, only my father and I know the truth behind our lineage.”
“Because His Highness’ blood is so diluted, the activation of the portal takes more of him…” Master Shawn said with a sigh. “And it ages him prem.a.t.u.r.ely… Both his physical body and his soul…”
Warrick shrugged. “Anything to get my real father back.”
His eyes then changed color, from red to violet.
“Huh?!” The boys were all taken aback.
Warrick laughed at their shocked expression and put a finger on his lips. He then said, “Royal families have a lot of hidden secrets and illegitimate children… even with those they deem beneath them.”
“His Highness’ mother was a descendant of Acronisian, from one of Arcon’s illegitimate lines, but there hasn’t been anyone who shows the violet marking for generations, so everyone has forgotten about that piece of history,” Master Shawn said with a solemn tone. “Until His Highness was born…”
“It was fleeting, just a few seconds, so only my mother and her maid who also served as her midwife knew about it, and they kept it from my father and everyone else. Thankfully, I continued to have the red markings, and I did not show any signs of being Acronisian… Until I saw the execution…”
There was a soft audible gasp coming from Juin and Wolfe. Luca, who experienced a similar situation, clenched his fists tightly and averted his glance.
“My… That man made me watch, and that night, my intense d.e.s.i.r.e for revenge awakened the violet markings. Maybe God took pity on me, but that night… That man sent away all my attendants so that I would learn how to be a man… But Shawn…” He then looked at the man standing next to him briefly before continuing, “He came to watch over me at night, and he found out.”
“Why didn’t you report him?” Juin asked.
“My loyalty is on the heir, and once I have accepted a person as my master, he will forever be my master.”
“And you accepted a child?”
“I accepted his mother as my master,” Shawn said with a blank expression, “and when she entrusted him to me before her death, I accepted him as my only master.”
Juin thought about Warlock, who had been protecting the soul inside of him. He did not know the whole story yet, but he knew that Warlock was protecting the soul inside of him, and in extension, him as well because of the soul’s mother.
But why?
What would make someone give up their whole life just to protect another person on behalf of someone else?
Love?
Devotion?
Juin sighed. He glanced at Lucifer and thought about Hades’ words. ‘I wish they would stop keeping things from me…’ he thought sadly. As his fingers curled into fists, he thought, ‘I wish they would stop treating me like a child…’
In his Soul Dimension, Hades’ eyes twitched slightly for a few seconds.
Juin closed his eyes and calmed himself down. He then opened them again and looked at Warrick. “Why are you telling us this? Aren’t you afraid that we tell someone else?”
“It doesn’t matter anymore…” Warrick said. He stepped forward and placed his hands on the railing. As he closed his eyes and enjoyed the clear breeze, he said, “I won’t be the next king of Wisterion.”
“What?”
“My plan requires me to start a rebellion with the help of the descendants of Atlas and heavily hurt my father’s physical body,” Warrick said, glancing at Juin. “It will be hard to convince the people after that…”
“Why them?” Wolfe asked. “Aren’t they weak?”
“Because they have nothing else to lose,” Warrick said, looking out at the sea this time. “When someone has nothing else to lose, they would not be afraid of anything else.” He then smirked and added, “Besides, these Acronisians are way stronger and more blessed than the rest. They just need to be awakened.”
